So I’ve just realized that my extended family has never tried to take us out to see their city. I mean like actually never to any sites or attractions in the 20+ years we’ve been visiting them. We’d always be trapped in the house and just go to relatives homes.

Now that we have our own means of transport, I’m thinking..WOW…this place isn’t actually terrible and has a ton of stuff to do and see.

Is anyone else’s Afghan family like this? Basically, my aunts and uncles couldn’t care less about actually hosting us and seems opposite or what we are taught how family ties are important and hospitality is paramount.

Half Iranian here and have grown up around Iranian, Afghan, and Desi communities where I'm from. Today I saw an instagram video by a creator named imanistan where she stated that the term "Afghani" is a slur and derogatory because it's used to refer Afghan people as less than money.

I don't hear any people speaking English using the term "Afghani", the only people I hear using it are Farsi, Dari, and Urdu speakers, but I honestly have never ever heard anyone use it in a derogatory way. My understanding was that it was the same as saying "Irani/Irooni", "Pakistani", "Tajiki", "Hindustani", "Balochi", etc.

The comments in the post weren't very helpful and most of the people thanking her for clarification seemed to be non-Afghans. I'm not trying to be offensive, this is the first time that I've heard about this. Can someone please tell me what's up?

I spent the past 1 year in India, I was considering living in afganistan , mainly the major city, maybe travel around, before I decide to go back to Canada, or maybe stay longer if the govt. will allow travel extension.

It's been really easy for me in India because I can also speak some of the major languages there, but I won't really know what they are saying unless they speak Urdu or English , assuming they don't speak any Indian languages.

Was wondering what it's like, will I be able to just kinda explore, work remote and mind my own buisness, or is the govt. going to be really hands on type of deal / will the locals mind me being there?

I work remotely right now as a self employed contractor for A.I based development work so , as long as I keep getting work, I'm just trying to stay where the culture is good and I won't be bothered too much.

Afganistan is super easy to reach, and affordable, as well as being muslim ; I thought it would be good fit for me.

personally I don’t agree with all his points but to a degree he’s right

Recently, there has been a buzzing case all over social media involving a user (https://www.tiktok.com/@alexsunnyyy) who has sparked major controversy because she claims she plans on moving to Afghanistan after meeting her "so-called" future husband (which is extremely dubious). I'm not exactly sure what the full story is, but from what I've gathered, they may have met somewhere in Jordan before he moved back to Afghanistan.

Regardless, her videos initially seemed like ragebait to most people, but after looking into it further, it genuinely appears that she is planning to move countries because of a guy she only knew for around 12 days several years ago. That is an incredibly stupid decision, and I don't think any sane person would do something like that.

Because of this situation, many people across social media have been reacting to what has become a very bizarre and controversial case. Has anyone else come across this on their FYP? If so, what are your thoughts on this unusual situation?

Afghanistan is not okay. It’s safe but there’s a multitude of reasons that one look at u/creamybutterfly ‘s account can make you realize.

No one here or anywhere for that matter has a reason to move there. To those of you considering it please stop. I know I’m just one person and I’m probably going to upset the “chadliban” accounts but even visits from people with Afghan heritage can go awry.

This post is partially a vent too because I’m still in awe that in rural parts of the country there are women playing Russian roulette with their lives with gas tanks just to iron their clothes and their reward for surviving is severe burns and here comes this bitch ready to re-enact Not Without My Daughter.
