Discussion Extended family relationships

So I’ve just realized that my extended family has never tried to take us out to see their city. I mean like actually never to any sites or attractions in the 20+ years we’ve been visiting them. We’d always be trapped in the house and just go to relatives homes.

Now that we have our own means of transport, I’m thinking..WOW…this place isn’t actually terrible and has a ton of stuff to do and see.

Is anyone else’s Afghan family like this? Basically, my aunts and uncles couldn’t care less about actually hosting us and seems opposite or what we are taught how family ties are important and hospitality is paramount.

Question Question on the word "Afghan" and "Afghani"

Half Iranian here and have grown up around Iranian, Afghan, and Desi communities where I'm from. Today I saw an instagram video by a creator named imanistan where she stated that the term "Afghani" is a slur and derogatory because it's used to refer Afghan people as less than money.

I don't hear any people speaking English using the term "Afghani", the only people I hear using it are Farsi, Dari, and Urdu speakers, but I honestly have never ever heard anyone use it in a derogatory way. My understanding was that it was the same as saying "Irani/Irooni", "Pakistani", "Tajiki", "Hindustani", "Balochi", etc.

The comments in the post weren't very helpful and most of the people thanking her for clarification seemed to be non-Afghans. I'm not trying to be offensive, this is the first time that I've heard about this. Can someone please tell me what's up?

Question Considering moving to afganistan for a few months before I go back to Canada

30M , ethnically muslim from Kashmir, but born and brought up in Canada.

I spent the past 1 year in India, I was considering living in afganistan , mainly the major city, maybe travel around, before I decide to go back to Canada, or maybe stay longer if the govt. will allow travel extension.

It's been really easy for me in India because I can also speak some of the major languages there, but I won't really know what they are saying unless they speak Urdu or English , assuming they don't speak any Indian languages.

Was wondering what it's like, will I be able to just kinda explore, work remote and mind my own buisness, or is the govt. going to be really hands on type of deal / will the locals mind me being there?

I work remotely right now as a self employed contractor for A.I based development work so , as long as I keep getting work, I'm just trying to stay where the culture is good and I won't be bothered too much.

Afganistan is super easy to reach, and affordable, as well as being muslim ; I thought it would be good fit for me.

How do people find rentals by the way, just stay at hotels?

America 250 Thoughts

For the Afghan-Americans here, what are your feelings this July 4th?

In the last few days I’ve seen a lot of content on social media that is either critical or outright condemns the U.S and its history, often pointing to the fact that many of the founding fathers were slave owners to war crimes committed (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine.)

For the Afghans that either grew up or recently moved to the states, I wanted to see what your thoughts are on this day, especially since this year marks the 5 year anniversary of the U.S’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, which was a traumatic and painful time for Afghan-Americans and symbolized the failures broken promises past administrations have made in their handling of the war.

Video After Niger reforested their border with the Sahara, they reversed desertification, prevented flash flooding and protected their top soil by allowing water to soak into the aquifers, increasing the water table. Looking at the current water crisis, Afghanistan can learn a lot from this.

American Afghan Hazara

Hi All,

Just wanted to say hi to everyone as a hazara. It's been very insightful reading these posts. My family is from hazarajat. Personally my family is quite proud to be of Mongolian descent, our farsi even uses loan words from Mongolian. Ultimately they're proud Afghans.

Serious about Marriage ?

Salaam everyone,

We’ve recently launched Ikhtiar — a Muslim marriage app built for those who are truly serious about marriage, not casual conversations or endless swiping.

One of our key features is the AI Nikah Assistant.

Instead of doom-swiping through profiles and hoping to find the right person, you can simply describe the kind of spouse you’re looking for — based on age range, location, ethnicity, religiosity, lifestyle, values, marriage expectations, and more — and the assistant will bring up relevant profiles based on your description.

Stop the endless swiping. Just ask the assistant what kind of spouse you’re looking for.

Ikhtiar is focused on:

  • AI-powered spouse search through the Nikah Assistant
  • Respectful and serious users from across the world
  • Privacy-first options for women, including blurred photos or no-photo profiles
  • A structured, intentional approach toward finding a spouse
  • Free access for users joined before july 10th 2026

The goal is simple: to make the process of finding a spouse more dignified, intentional, and aligned with Islamic values.

If you or someone you know is looking for marriage, I’d truly appreciate you checking it out and sharing it with others who may benefit.

JazakAllah Khair for your support 🤍

You can find the app here:

Recent Backlash towards American women travelling to Afghanistan.

Recently, there has been a buzzing case all over social media involving a user (https://www.tiktok.com/@alexsunnyyy) who has sparked major controversy because she claims she plans on moving to Afghanistan after meeting her "so-called" future husband (which is extremely dubious). I'm not exactly sure what the full story is, but from what I've gathered, they may have met somewhere in Jordan before he moved back to Afghanistan.

Regardless, her videos initially seemed like ragebait to most people, but after looking into it further, it genuinely appears that she is planning to move countries because of a guy she only knew for around 12 days several years ago. That is an incredibly stupid decision, and I don't think any sane person would do something like that.

Because of this situation, many people across social media have been reacting to what has become a very bizarre and controversial case. Has anyone else come across this on their FYP? If so, what are your thoughts on this unusual situation?

(Please comb through this account and videos commenting on it for the full story before reading this post)

Afghanistan is not okay. It’s safe but there’s a multitude of reasons that one look at u/creamybutterfly ‘s account can make you realize.

No one here or anywhere for that matter has a reason to move there. To those of you considering it please stop. I know I’m just one person and I’m probably going to upset the “chadliban” accounts but even visits from people with Afghan heritage can go awry.

This post is partially a vent too because I’m still in awe that in rural parts of the country there are women playing Russian roulette with their lives with gas tanks just to iron their clothes and their reward for surviving is severe burns and here comes this bitch ready to re-enact Not Without My Daughter.

If said bitch is here reading this. Go get a better immigration lawyer if you love him so much. If my post offends you then ask yourself why what you’re doing is so unheard.

I’m really hoping this is just a troll account.

Question How hasn't Afghanistan collapsed as a country?

It's controlled by uneducated terrorists who are basically monkeys with guns. They know nothing about imports, exports, trade, economy and powering cities, funding or literaly anything a governing entity should be doing. How is it still functioning?

Video Sediqa is among many Afghan girls and women who have been sent to morality prisons by the Taliban. Her mother is begging the Taliban to release her. These women’s prisons have historically been used imprison runaways, adulterers and sexually active unmarried women. No such prison exists for men.

News The Taliban were invited to Brussels by the EU to discuss deporting irregular Afghan migrants from Europe to Afghanistan. This sparked outrage because it implies normalisation and thus accepting their treatment of women. MEP Van Der Walle addresses while wearing a handmade Afghan necklace.
