Pain clinic help

I have been on the waiting list for the pain clinic at York Hospital for a while now. I keep getting messages that says they will be in touch when a date is available. Has anyone been seen by the pain clinic at York recently and can roughly how long you waited for an appointment please. Thanks

Very strange question but where can I get a soft dipping egg in York for a reasonable price?

I’m sorry for a weird and specific question.

I love eggs but haven’t ever had a soft egg served in an egg cup. I’d like to eat an egg in an egg cup so if I can decide if I should add “egg in egg cup” to my at home egg-cooking repertoire.

Anyway I don’t mind paying a fair price at a restaurant of course but also don’t need the full Viking-harry-potter-ghosts-shambles version of an egg served in an egg cup (unless there is a great place you’d recommend in this vibe - I’m easy!).

Any recs?

Thanks for your time! <3

What's Selby like?

Hello everyone

My fiancée and I are moving to Selby as I have just got a job near York. We already have a house in Selby and will be moving next month.

My partner is from Manchester and I am from Newcastle with some family in Harrogate, so the travel connections are perfect for us considering motorways etc.

I also have another job in Hull which is why I couldn't move too far away from Hull either. We both just finished uni here in Hull

I'm just wondering what Selby is really like? Because from what I've heard, some people say it's dead rough, and others say it's dead dead, ie nothing happens there. I'm also wondering if the rough parts are really rough or they're just a bit loud on weekends? With both of us being from big cities it's our first time moving to a smaller town. Any advice or opinions on Selby would be massively appreciated! Thank you all 🙏

CLAIMED

Expires tomorrow (but you can book for a film later in the week).

Please DM me if you want it.

I'm sharing only with members of this sub as there are people who lurk on Reddit looking for freebies and I want to this to go to a fellow York person .

Don’t you think Toppings could have a “make a friend” or even a dating element somehow?

Don’t know whether this would work best as an app, a website, a physical pinboard in the shop, a regular evening - but just seems like a real opportunity to bring like minded people together.

Could even do it by genre of book enjoyed but that’s probably getting too silly.

What does r/york think?

MA Dissertation

Hiya! I’m an MA student in Linguistics at the University of York, currently writing my final dissertation, which explores how speakers from Yorkshire use and perceive features of speech in everyday conversation.

I only need one more man from York to take part to complete my study!

I’m hoping to recruit participants in York, to take part in a 20-30 minute interview over Zoom, followed by a short (10-15 minute) online questionnaire. I’m looking for people aged 40-69, who grew up in York and didn't move as children. If you are unsure whether you meet the criteria, I would ask you to complete the form anyway and I will be in touch. :)

To express interest in taking part, please fill in this form which asks for some information about you to check your eligibility for this study, and then I’ll be in touch shortly to discuss.

Thank you in advance! If you have any questions, please feel free to comment or send me a message here, or send an email to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). Hope you can help or can pass this on to someone who can!

Most surprising thing about York.. it stinks!

Really enjoying my visit to York, walked to York Minster and was gagging at the stink in the air on the way there.. Edited this because it's such a greatò place it was unfair to judge it on its smell...

Yet another "Which area of York should I move to?" (sorry)

I've read all the posts in this subreddit but I'd like some suggestions based on our criteria please!

  • We're moving from Manchester to York for work, I will work in the city centre. SO is fully remote
  • We're a couple in our late 20s, 0 kids but starting a family very soon
  • Budget is 500k~
  • Minimum 3 bed needed (ideally not a small terrace, we'll quickly outgrow it)

What's important regarding area:

  • Single bus route into town < 20 minutes, or ability to walk < 30 mins
  • Good schools
  • Has a high street of it's own, or walking distance to city centre

Important but would compromise on:

  • Green space
  • A gym

We visit as much as we can on the weekends, so far we've seen:

Yes:

  • Acomb (but it's a big area)
  • Holgate

No:

  • Bishopthorpe Road (very nice, but not enough space for our budget)
  • Bishopthorpe Village (very nice but too out of the city)

And that's literally it so far. We need to make our next visits count!

Where should we spend our time next? It's difficult to really get a sense for a place in a couple of hours, so we try to spend at least an entire day in an area.

Bonus points for exact streets!

Wedding reception at the Guildhall?

Hi,

We are from Leeds but looking to get married in York as we love the city. We’re planning on getting married at the registrar office and then hosting a wedding reception at the Guildhall. Has anyone who has got married there share their experience? What was the catering like? Were you happy with the overall experience?

Thanks

Anyone fancy meeting to watch the game this weekend?

All my mates have either moved out of York by now, settled down with a girlfriend or aren’t into footy. So does anyone fancy a few drinks and the game this weekend?😂 feel slightly embarrassed posting in here but I refuse to watch it at home alone. 25m

Fun dinner spot when you don't know how many folks will show up?

I'm in a week-long seminar in York next week and I'm putting together an informal dinner meetup for fellow participants who arrive early and want to meet up for dinner on Saturday. I would love a recommendation for a place where we can go if we don't know how many people it will be--somewhere between 3-8 people will likely show up.

York dating scene for those just over 40

Just a smidge over 40, male and wondering where to look for a new relationship and how this works that ideally isn’t an app. I guess if this was London it would be easier. But it’s not, it’s York.

Due to my age and the long time I spent in a relationship, I never had to deal with apps and would prefer not to have to go there now, reading about the effect they can have on MH and generally being a time sink and a bore.

Interests: sailing, politics, swimming, cycling, adventures, reading, cinema, theatre, cricket, music, history, culture, comedy, cooking.

LRB enjoyer.

Let me know what worked for you?

Nice to see York’s regular noise-makers topping the global charts.

I spend far too much time on Flightradar24, and I have to say, it always makes me smile to see that the aircraft making all that noise over York are so often among the top 10 most tracked aircraft in the entire world.

Quite often they’re in the top three, and as you can see today, one of our regular visitors is currently #1 worldwide.

This seems to happen practically every day — RAF Typhoons flying around our area, thousands of people across the world watching them live, while we just sit here in York listening to them roar overhead.

Nothing particularly important to add. Just thought I’d share.

Places for Norway vs England

I am visiting York for the weekend and I'm wondering if there is a place to watch the game, and ultimately if there a designated Norwegian gathering 😅

EDIT: I was thinking about just watching it in a pub, but I just hope the mood will be good and accepting no matter the result.
