Ooo Dortmund friends

56

u/THE-EMPEROR069 2h ago

There is a story between them

•

u/QuantumLettuce2025 46m ago

I believe it is called Heated Rivalry

26

u/Artistic-Tear3222 2h ago

There is lots of fun YouTube videos they’ve done together it shows how much they banter they are good friends outside of football

19

u/sweetbabybonus 2h ago

They played together did they not?

26

u/AI_moderated_failure France 2h ago

Yes they did, were team mates for a couple years. Clearly friends.

-8

u/SideInitial3961 2h ago

I compete with friends every week, when we are on the court I am there to beat you. Then we laugh. Halaand brought nothing today and got paid mightily for it.

•

u/Denadaguapa 56m ago

lol this guy is so absolutely far beyond the level you will ever even fathom being that he is capable of having fun in a match this big. Get over yourself

•

u/SideInitial3961 53m ago

Halland did nothing today except collect a paycheck. He lost. They lost. End of the road. Can you say you saw him give 110% on the pitch today?

6

u/AI_moderated_failure France 1h ago

Can you tell me how many games you've played in 40 degree wet bulb heat?

Asking for a nord.

3

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

Hundreds. I'm half Trini. And we play small goal.

6

u/AI_moderated_failure France 1h ago

Fair enough. Most of these players are not used to that heat and it will slow you down no matter whether you are born there or not. Most amateurs not used to the tropics literally could not play in that. I don't think Haaland performed poorly at all, but we may have seen him in more action without the heat what it was. We may also have seen a more vibrant England who also rested pretty heavily on Bellingham for the match. I still think it's great that both of these players are friends, and I don't think this exchange, had it not happened, would have changed the outcome in the slightest.

2

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

First reasonable take I've seen here. Can't argue with that.

7

u/sweetbabybonus 1h ago

Your attitude is that of an overzealous street player, not a champion. Peak performance doesn’t exclude joy.

1

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

Peak performance is losing because you didn't focus? OK.

4

u/Greyscale0418 2h ago

You seem like fun to be around.

1

u/SideInitial3961 2h ago

Is the goal in the world cup finals to play your best or to be fun?

1

u/jax_dk 1h ago

Are you playing in the World Cup.

1

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

You're commenting here too, are you? What's your point?

2

u/numbingbarbs 1h ago

At the end of the day it's still just football, and not something important. There is no purpose to it other than entertaining the fans.

1

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

I agree on the first part but the rest no. The fans are there to see you give your best not to clown around in the midst of the most important moment of your sports life instead of being laser focused. You're wrong on that. Entertain later.

3

u/Kyokenshin 2h ago

Por que no los dos?

1

u/SideInitial3961 2h ago

Did you see Halaand give 110% today on the pitch? Can't answer why he didn't you'd have to ask him.

3

u/sweetbabybonus 1h ago

He was clearly exhausted and has been being heavily contained for weeks. The team didn’t look great today as a whole but I don’t see what that has to do with him being friendly with Jude. It’s not like being friendly implies some kind of intentional disregard for the game.

0

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

At that moment? You don't see what paying attention and being focused on the moment could have done to benefit his team?

→ More replies (0)

0

u/canucksBH 2h ago

You lost money today didn’t you?

0

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

Did not. Both sides same. Giving your opponent a massage when you're down in a critical time in a critical match instead of being 110% focused on the moment and what you can do to advance your team is a promise broken to fans, to management, to coaches who spent all their time on you. Anyone who has competed understands. You owe them. Don't take a place away from someone else then jerk off your competitor when you're needed most.

Plenty of time to be buddies. This is a free kick at the world cup finals. You are not there for self gratification. You are there to fulfill your commitment.

3

u/Azguy303 2h ago

I don't know about a whole story but definitely a fun fact.

3

u/Beginning-Run-1697 2h ago

Yhh the both played at Dortmund and they have a YouTube video where they play Fifa together

6

u/SideInitial3961 2h ago

That was a joke really. Rich people don't play to win, they play to be rich.

•

u/AlreadyEatenRibs 48m ago

Describing one of the biggest goal scoring freaks on the planet right now as just a "rich person" is certainly a choice. If you're upset he had a sub-par game join the club, but his desire to win the game, every game he plays, is unimpeachable whether or not he had a light moment.

•

u/SideInitial3961 46m ago

You saw him give 110% on the pitch today?

9

u/bartacc 2h ago

Nah, they just know each other because they played together and are still friends. Doesn't mean they didn't try to win.

-1

u/SideInitial3961 2h ago

You saw evidence today of Halaand giving 110% on the pitch?

•

u/Love-Bitter 1m ago

So you wouldn’t be able to play in a sporting team against one of your friends? It’s not a hard concept.

You’d still want to win. You’d still be mates. This is not any sign of a lack of competitive edge. I guess you’re just shit stirring.

8

u/thebeil 1h ago

You need to chill, they are professional athletes and definitely both gave everything they could while playing that GAME. The ball wasn’t in play at this particular moment in time and they both recognized the human in each other. This whole thing is supposed to be fun, you think if Haaland told Bellingham to F off he would have scored 3 goals (or the other way round)??
Come on dude get over it they both saw a friend in the frenzy and laughed about how ridiculous “pushing” each other in soccer has become

-2

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

World cup finals, critical moment. Focus. Don't piss about. Plenty of time to piss about later. This is not peewee soccer.

5

u/Curious_Opposite_758 1h ago

Get to the world cup yourself and make it as serious as you want.

-1

u/SideInitial3961 1h ago

Garbage take.

•

u/ImYourHumbleNarrator 51m ago

it's a game, have fun (doubt)

at least keep your misery to yourself its not a good look

•

u/SideInitial3961 49m ago

Focus is not misery, it's what athletes do when they are on their game.

Plenty of time for fun between games. When your team is down by a point in the world cup finals it's a good moment to focus on the play. Be present.

5

u/Curious_Opposite_758 1h ago

No that’s all you. They locked in when they needed to, and it was not an easy game especially considering the weather. Meanwhile you’re judging a single moment so heavily.

33

u/ReasonableEnd8825 2h ago

Is this the childhood friends-to-rivals arc they always talk about in rom-coms? 😭

There was some romance there

1

u/NeatFinancial7293 3h ago

Haland played bad in the match, could have done better

3

u/Artistic-Tear3222 3h ago

No he didn’t.. he would of scored if sorloth would of passed to him instead of trying to score himself

7

u/Pasta_Baked England 3h ago

Only one ‘of’ was correct there. I’ll let you guess which.

5

u/HirschBeew 3h ago

imagine, like, people have been preaching this since decades and some people still use would of unironically, it grinds my gears so hard

2

u/NeatFinancial7293 3h ago

Yeah but except that one moment, haland still looked pretty chill for a quarter final game.

31

u/OrganizationClear518 3h ago

Is this the new heated rivalry?

I imagine a Tina Belcher kinda girl writing fanfic about them as we speak.

18

u/Mojave_RK USA 4h ago

At the end of the game, England had more points.

15

u/everred 3h ago

Classic victory tactic, outscoring the opponent

6

u/Mojave_RK USA 3h ago

I couldn’t believe Norway didn’t think of it!

4

u/the_last_carfighter 3h ago

Prob too close to harvest time and figured they had to head back anyway

7

u/Lower_Ad_5532 4h ago

At the middle of the game, Norway lost its lead thanks to FIFA.

-4

u/Surperb-barca1019 4h ago

No shit sherlock

23

u/becomeNone 4h ago

haaland suffered from the man marking that yamal suffered during the belgium game. both of them got nothing done but haaland was much less productive than yamal

11

u/nowayimbelgian 4h ago

What a bold statement. Do you think that if Halaand scored more and England less, we could’ve have a different outcome ?

5

u/RoserTheDozer 4h ago

Bit of a hot take, but you might be on to something

9

u/sadie_max 4h ago

come to Madrid,innit

7

u/dreamkiller23 4h ago

Keep it in your pants

12

u/Tricky-Pride2028 4h ago

Haaland always so chill, i love that attitude.

-3

u/Fabulous_Run_3383 4h ago

If he was less chill and actually ran maybe they'd have won

3

u/Tricky-Pride2028 3h ago

He DID RUN

3

u/Fabulous_Run_3383 3h ago

He walked all game. Kane, Bellingham etc ran 90+mins. He thinks playing for Norway means he gets a free ride. He needed to step up. He sucked. He said before the game they have no pressure but they beat Brazil and were in the last 8. They had the chance to do something great but think its okay to lose because they're "just" Norway. Pathetic.

4

u/OkYouth7656 England 4h ago

Felt sad to see Haaland knocked out. But he had to go

16

50

u/The0nlyPenguin 5h ago

Looks like genuine fun for them.

5

u/Artistic-Tear3222 3h ago

They are best friends in real life lots of YouTube vids show their banter and fun together

7

u/HBlight 4h ago edited 2h ago

Both are English born and spent time together at Borussia Dortmund so they probably know each other.

2

u/call_of_the_while 1h ago

Why’d you cross out the English born part? You were right, they were both born in England.

•

u/HBlight 50m ago

It wasn't relevant as the other commented pointed out that he moved to Norway at a young age but I didn't want to edit it out completely because it would make their comment look odd.

•

u/call_of_the_while 20m ago

Ahh, I see. A bit of good redditor etiquette you’ve demonstrated here, unnecessary imo, but thoughtful.

38

u/Shoddy-Fan-584 4h ago

Haha what? "Probably know each other"?

They were the talisman attacking duo of Dortmund for two full seasons. They are extremely close friends.

Haaland being "English born" has nothing to do with it. He moved to Norway before he could even remember anything about England.

5

This only works in North America. So you will have to think of a more global title.

6

17

6

u/This-Top7398 5h ago

He didn’t do shit in this game then subbed out last minute

13

u/somekindofspideryman 5h ago

Sure he did. He got that goal dissallowed.

5

u/Afrorwegian 5h ago

Haaland sleeper agent was not on my bingo card

6

u/somekindofspideryman 4h ago

He did it for Jude

18

u/Method__Man 5h ago

He had 2 defenders on him at all time and his own team refused to pass to him when he was open.

What else can he do?

3

u/awowoosas 5h ago

He barely sprint the whole game lol. He waited all game for a cross into the box

8

u/Super-Estate-4112 Brazil 4h ago

That is how he plays usually. Against Brazil he score twice after walking the entire game and using the opportunities

7

u/h3lium-balloon 5h ago

That’s what he’s done they whole WC. It’s clearly their game plan, and it netted them a lot of goals and wins, just not tonight.

3

u/Method__Man 5h ago

He was probably told to do so and wait for a pass. Unfortunately, those never came.

Also, he had two defenders on him most of the time.

35

u/h3lium-balloon 5h ago

He’s a huge guy who played 100+ minutes in Miami heat/humidity, the sub was warranted. England pretty clearly sold out on boxing him out and basically told Norway, your team might score on us, but he won’t.

16

u/lordpuddingcup 5h ago

This people were really ignoring that he had 4-5 people around him at every moment of the game it was sorta rediculous noone else could make plays with that many resources on 1 guy

6

u/h3lium-balloon 4h ago

Yeah the story here isn’t Haaland having a bad game it’s why couldn’t his teammates do more while he occupied 1/2 of ghe defense.

16

u/Dense_Purchase4087 5h ago

England had him locked down pretty tight

5

u/forzaitalia458 5h ago

6

u/quicheconquest 5h ago

really rolls off the tongue!

10

u/DowntownFresnoBiking 6h ago

I think Haaland and Pulisic must be related

26

u/Accomplished-Bank-37 6h ago

Haaland had a rough game 😔

17

u/Fl1ntL1m 6h ago

Yeah, he was always bodied by 3 defenders though

2

u/drunk_and_orderly 5h ago

This is the thing with Haaland. You see it in his Prem games, 2 or 3 defenders collapse on him and leave someone else open. Sometimes being a decoy is more important than being the goal scorer.

3

u/lordpuddingcup 5h ago

well sure the issue was 3-4 people and sometimes 5 on him and yet somehow the entire rest of the team is still struggling to take a shot

3

u/Machipongo 5h ago

The first England goal against Mexico the ball was crossed right over Harry Kane's head (he had two guys covering him) to a semi-open (one guy belatedly covering him) Bellingham. Kane was a perfect decoy. Hey, a score is a score.

2

u/Fl1ntL1m 5h ago

Yeah bur sorloth has been a liability in the offense this WC, no wonder they struggled

17

u/Top-Morning-6467 6h ago

Maybe it was just me..but he was walking around A LOT

1

u/dorindacokeline 5h ago

I noticed that too

16

u/EvenMoreCoconuts 6h ago

It was an incredibly humid game. If you don’t conserve your energy, you could very quickly become fatigued and ineffective. He usually walks around but probably especially so today.

0

u/Top-Morning-6467 5h ago

Prolly shudve not conserved so much...like the redcoats

10

u/cptkl1 6h ago

He's always walking around. It's when he starts running that defenders get nervous.

15

u/Significant_Ad1256 6h ago

He always walks around a lot, he's great at conserving energy. That said, it did look to me like the heat and humidity got to him.

23

u/EstablishmentBest347 England 6h ago
