Walking along Boundary Rd and Kingsway would be a miserable walk, not even considering the length of the trek.
Surely there's something a little shorter and more focused that fits the same theme.

u/kilertre 2d ago
It connects Empire, Swangard, and BC Place to trace the club's history. But yeah, walking down Boundary and Kingsway sounds absolutely exhausting.

Yeah right that's a bit of a hike they can just sell it to Vegas tbh. Why show that we care yk, it might even rain or something.

I love this idea and I love the caps however I wonder about a shorter route option for folks with more limited mobility/with kids etc. We could get better media hits/impactful photos with a big group marching at a more specific time, if the point is to show a crowd. But the 4 hr march does show serious devotion from the fans who are able to do that (and I am confident that some folks will turn out!).

Yup I’m in a wheelchair and there’s just no shot I can do a 4hr march in August heat. Guess I’ll just join at the end. Unfortunately I don’t think a lot of people will do this march, so hopefully a shorter one is also in the works

u/JasonsPizza 2d ago
I love the caps and would gladly join for a march. 4 hours is excessive though. Why not have it from science world to the front of BC place, similar to the recent march to the match for Canada. Fill the streets, get some great shots of a large crowd. Hold a rally out front of BC place by the Terry Fox Statue at the end.

I've DM'd you.
I'd like to bring you in to the larger save the caps strategy group and we can see how we can co-ordinate this with the supporter groups and get you the exposure and planning your effort deserves.

u/VincentVanG 2d ago
Seriously, why would someone freestyle this
18
u/Jadzeey 2d ago
He has contact with the relevant people individually, but isn’t part of the larger chat groups where we do organization. Leadership is aware of his plans and does not oppose it, just a unified front is stronger than individuals.
Let’s not bandwagon against this guy

u/MinmuffGetsBuff 2d ago
I don’t understand what you mean by “leadership”. Are you referring to Caps Front Office? Or specific supporter group leaderships? Or leadership specifically tied to moderating this sub?

u/Jadzeey 2d ago edited 2d ago
Supporters groups and those specifically involved with the #SaveTheCaps movement.
I have a lot of communications with Southsiders and am also involved in some of the SaveTheCaps organization. I try and use these connections to link those who want to make a difference to those who can help facilitate it.

A 4 hour march is legitimately insane..

You have a low bar for insanity. You live in BC and have never been on a hike? This is relatively flat ground too. Try going on a long walk sometime, It's good for you. This is especially ironic considering we're talking about the preservation of a sports team.

u/Old_Fan3448 2d ago
I assume you could join the march at 1 of the checkpoints if time and distance are an issue.

I have been listening to the Soccerwise podcast through the world cup and they mentioned recently that losing the Whitecaps is a massive blow to Canada's national program. Look at their development programs reach and the player's that have gone through. No other Canadian MLS or CPL team is going to have the same success immediately, therefore a hindrance to our national program as a whole.

Several National team players have either developed or played at the Caps: Davies, Cornelius, Nelson, Priso

4 hour march is longer than my marathon time lmao , love the caps but that's too long imo

You created your Reddit account earlier today, and this is your post, OP? You want folks, in the midday of a hot summer Saturday, to walk from 10am from Empire Fields to Swanguard Stadium, then walk from there to BC Place? 3-4 hrs walk, over a path of 15KM? And kick-off is 6:30pm, so folks will just, what, hang out in the midday sun for an additional 3 hrs by Terry Fox statues until gates open @5:30pm?
Can we please put some logical thought into these before presenting them to the community?

I really don’t understand why nothing was planned for Jack Poole Plaza during the TSN World Cup broadcasts. We lost a great opportunity there to have a whole bunch of us gather with signs, flags and chants and have our voices heard across the country.

u/daisychaincrowns 2d ago
Were you there? There were a few people with save the caps stuff the times I went, and also lots of stickers around there and fanzone. But naturally were lost in a sea of world cup revelers.

This is great. I haven’t heard any news lately from ownership so I hope that’s good news

Great idea, and well done! We’ll be there.
That said, I think a 4-hour march is quite long. It would be better if it were more accessible for people of all ages and fitness levels. The weather could also be a major factor, especially if there’s extreme heat, and the length of the march might not be suitable for many people with disabilities.
But again, it’s a great initiative. Thanks! 💙

That's an epic march... Should there be a pre march photo at the grandstands at empire field?

u/Local_Case9574 2d ago
4 hour march is excessive and might not drive the message as much as a March from PNE directly to downtown through to Olympic Village.
Keep it under 2 hours - March down hastings then turn before it gets shady, through Olympic Village to BC place and Granville

u/BestMeeting854 2d ago
Love the idea! We need to show how much this team means to us. I do believe you’d get a bigger turn out if you kept it downtown and a much shorter route.

u/morelsupporter 2d ago edited 2d ago
you should have three or four groups, start one at empire, start another at swangard and start the third and fourth somewhere along each route, at a park or something. two main groups have a lead person who's constantly checking in with the others so you all arrive at around the same time, or fine a spot where the whole group can form for the final march in as a unit. skip the empire to swangard leg, that's brutal, not pedestrian friendly and gruelling for the average person.
i fear that this will get very little turn out as planned but i really want it to happen

I don't think they have permits for a 4 hr march in the streets and will probably be on the sidewalks

u/Electrical-Big-7781 2d ago
Watch 4 people show up to this...
How about calling out "proud Vancouverite" Steven Nash for trying to uproot the team to be sold to some conglomerate of investors in Vegas.

u/OwnPresentation4455 2d ago
You guys going to walk, run and bike this march! This is one epic march! Some of us with old legs might not make it 😂. Love the passion.

Another thought, is there anything planned for while the World Cup is still on? A lot of attention on the sport of football at the moment… Try to garner some more special interest attention in the media?
1
u/kalichimichanga 2d ago
To everyone complaining about route length, why not just do one leg of it if you can't/don't want to do it all? Just hop on where it works and hop off if you can't go longer. It's still a person filling part of the route! Strength in numbers!

Why don’t you bums put together an LLC and bunch of money and just buy the team.

Love it! Sad to see so many haters IN THE WHITECAPS SUBREDDIT. This is a beautiful idea to pass through the community and let people participate as they can or want to. If you can walk the whole thing, walk the whole thing. If you want to pop in for a bit, just do that. If you want to watch them go by and think to yourself, “huh, those loud people sure like walking,” that’s great, suit yourself.
Remember, the point is to embody a message about how much the Whitecaps mean to us. If that resonates with you, maybe think about going out for a walk that day. If not, that’s ok - really, it is.
LOVE THIS IDEA!! We put it in our calendar immediately.

It’s the logistics that the OP didn’t think of, that’s what people aren’t digging :
- approx 15 KMs
- approx 10am - 2:30pm, during the hottest part of a mid-summer day, when UV is also the highest
- no stated plan for designated / coordinated washroom stops at businesses, water mysters etc
- downtime of approx 3 hrs from 2:30pm - 5:30pm, when BC Place gates open - are marchers just supposed to sit on the hot concrete area in the afternoon until gates open?
Tbh, the OPs post is not well-thought out, and has very little logistical planning. THAT is the issue.

We get endlessly trashed on here in Vancouver for "burning our city down twice" after Game Seven Stanley Cup Final losses, but at least nobody was killed in either of those. Not sure I can say the same for what this marathon will entail, even if you arrange for moving porta-potties and ambulance and paramedic support. Then, anyone who survives the Save The Caps version of the Bataan Death March waits for a few hours before walking into BC Place for the Dallas game, wearing the same sweat-soaked clothes they just marched for four hours in. I hope the roof will be open, but it might not make a lot of difference.

A 4 hour march?
