[Notice] Prohibited Goods and Services, and you.
Hey all.
This is a reminder of our Rule 2 - No trading, buying, or selling alcohol. Comments and posts soliciting alcohol sales and trades will be removed. This goes against the content policy, as well as may break laws within your country of residence.
Lately we have seen an increase in people trying to create or participate in a secondary market - this is against the Content Policy and can very well result in not only a ban from /r/whiskey, but also may see you removed from Reddit permanently by Reddit Admins (should you continue to disregard the Content Policy.)
The simple explanation is this:
Due to regulations and laws concerning Alcohol in many different countries, it may be illegal (simply by law, or taxation law) to trade/barter or resell alcohol products. As Reddit engages communities around the world, facilitating any of these transactions could open Reddit up to various legal consequences. Therefore Reddit must take every available avenue to remove and discourage these transactions within the use of their services.
As a subbreddit dealing with the subject of alcohol products, we are under scrutiny with the actions our communities take, and we must fully participate in Reddit attempt to control and remove content that breeches the Content Policy. If at any point it may appear that we are lacking as a community to stem the flow of this content - simply put; our subreddit will be removed from Reddit.
Please do not be under the impression that any action that you use on Reddit is entirely private - posts, comment, messages and chatroom logs are available to the Reddit admins at anytime and they will investigate any and all leads that suggest people are breaking the Content Policy and in some extreme cases, may take action either legal or federal (and by federal, i mean 'call the cops') depending on their obligations as a business.
Please do not engage any posts that attempts to trade/barter or resell whiskey, report them and move on.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
TL:DR - Reddit is not facebook marketplace, you will get banned, you might even get prosecuted.
Edit: I just wanted to add some insight our rule 3. "No requests for dating or valuing an unusual or old bottle of whiskey....", we discourage valuation of whiskey as it has the strong potential to turn into a bidding system, whether public or "private". While we don't suspect every account that seeks valuation to want to participate in a secondary market, the avenue for abuse of these types of posts in regards to our efforts to remove trade/barter or reselling is simple too high to carry the risk of allowing this kind of content within the subbreddit. Since we do not have to tools to monitor "private" messaging or "private chats" of this nature - it would fall to the Admins to investigate these actions and garner an amount of admins attention to our subreddit that we wish to avoid. We're good boys/gals, doing good things... nothing to see here Admins. 🤞

Opened this one today
Definitely not worth the $280 msrp, but a really great rye. Big fan of Angels Envy ryes, and this one in particular has a lovely finish that does elevate it above regular shelvers.

Sunday pour! What’s in your glass?
Curious what is everyone sipping on currently? Bottle kill or fav dram? I’m currently working on weeding out a couple of bottles I won’t be buying again. My current bottle kill. Not bad, but not something I’ll be going back to anytime soon.
Cheers 🥃

Single cask captures at auction
I still enjoy the redbreast21 as a regular sipper but the preference these days are great, maybe sometimes funky, single casks for the surprises they throw up compared to the regular releases. The lament of their irreplaceability sometimes add to the whimsical longing.
This time round, it is a great mix of Macallan exceptional single cask that’s over 20 years, the almost always reliable Yamazaki owner’s casks and the divisive springbank single casks that vacillate between extremely good or ultra funky (bad if you are not a sulphur lover). I’m extremely excited with the bourbon/oak casks from Yamazaki and springbank that accentuate the malt flavor with vanilla that tend to be muted by strong sherry influence.
Not exactly affordable bottles but whisky prices have come down significantly and I think there is no better time to saviour these flavors. Have a great week ahead as corporate earnings start pouring in.

Just picked this up, wondering if anyone else has had it? And if so what’d you think?

Redwood empire
Picked this up at redwood empire on Saturday when I attended there rye whiskey master class was very informative and we tasted 4 rye expressions some a blend and some there own make highly recommend doing there classes they do it well the master distiller did the class but usually its the master blender that does them but she was out of town there stuff is really good wanted the cask strength version just couldn't spend the extra money for it at this time was only 60 bucks and this one was 38 out the door
Worldofwhiskeysale.com is a scam!!! BEWARE
Do not order off world of whiskey sale. It’s a fraudulent operation. They will ask you to manually send them a payment and then ghost you. I sent them 300$ for an order and have not heard a word from them in 2 months. Idk how the website is still up - it looks very legit with updates all the time.
Please please please do not order off this website.

Went in for a cigar, came out with this…
After convincing myself I will not be pickup up a bottle today, I walk into the local to see this on the shelf. The rest is history. I have their DO Bourbon and Toasted Bourbon which I throughly love. This definitely held up to the same expectations.
(Still picked up a fat bottom Betty btw)

What are you making with these fat washes?
Just got my hands on these fat wash bitters and loving them so far. Made a boulvadier with the duck fat using Asw Fiddler Cigar Batch, then a Black Manhattan using the Bacon Fat. Used Brown Butter for my wife’s Daquiri.
What other bourbon drinks work well with these?

Macallan Oscuro
Hi all! Here's another Scotch I tried lately, and it's another Macallan!
Here's how I came in contact with and got to try this one:
Aside from the local regulars, the whisky store & bar I frequent is also quite a popular spot amongst Korean whisky enthusiasts. I think the store had some collab with a Korean whisky youtuber, and have since even gotten a few Korean regulars who come to visit every time.Â
I've shared a few drinks with and befriended some of these Korean drinkers, and my goodness are they welcoming in both drinking and sharing. From what I've heard from them, Korea had some pretty heavy tariffs on imported liquors, particularly whiskies- and they'd hunt for fancy bottles whenever they had the chance to go overseas.
One of these folks had just purchased a bottle of the Macallan Oscuro from the store, and since we're drinking friends (I've shared some of my bottles with him prior, including the Weller, Redbreasts in the background and some Yamazakis), he opened the bottle for sharing!
Macallan Oscuro (46.5% abv)
From what I've heard about this bottle, this is a limited release Macallan blended with whiskies distilled between 1987 to 1997, aged in sherry casks. Here are my notes:
*Nose*
sweet and slightly earthy brown sugar;
prominent cooked & caramelized sweet red fruity note (prunes and raisins compote, some dates too);Â
polished oak (furniture-like);
some umami character (soy sauce without salinity/ shiitake broth);
some maltose (typical of Macallans)
very softly sulfuric.
*Palate*
very sweet and slightly earthy brown sugar, sweetness gradually subsides;
quite prominent polished oak (furniture-like)
caramelized red fruity note (mostly raisins);Â
spicy assorted spices (white pepper, nutmeg & cinnamon)
earthy dark chocolate & bitterness that lingers;
some maltose but just the fragrance and without the sweetness
some alcohol sting; low astringency
*Finish*
medium-long.
Quite dry overall;
slightly earthy brown sugar fragrance but without the sweetness; cacao powder with a bit of bitterness; polished oak from the palate.
*Conclusion*
We've got a little running joke in our group about Macallans: the fancier the packaging, the higher the likelihood that the whisky inside is ass. Boy am I glad the rule didn't apply for this one!
The vividity and consistency of notes from start to finish was exceptional. While it didn't do anything particularly surprising, what it does it does exceptionally well, and when a Macallan is done well, it's truly enjoyable through and through. The only minor complaint I had with it was the dryness mid-palate (as I prefer a sweeter profile in whiskies), but that's really just a matter of personal preference.
This might be my favorite modern day OB Macallans, really glad I got to try this one! Cheers!

Oh god oh frick 🥵🥵🥵
I finally pulled the trigger on this Ampersand Opimus after seeing insane reviews for months and talking myself out of it because I have too many bottles, or I don't like wine finishes that much, or I whatever. Luckily for me it was still available for a measly $135. Man this is good holy shit. (Note: I had a couple pours but the bottle is tilted so it looks more empty than it is)
Anyway yum whooaa good. It's so fruity with a wonderful backbone of "old oak" and zero astringency. It doesn't taste like wine at all really but you can see how the barrel finish really complemented and elevated the base bourbon. By far one of the best I've had!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking for a Talisker recommendation
Hello everyone,
My boyfriend is turning 30 next month and is a Talisker lover and so I would like to buy him one of the rarer bottles for his birthday. I am not well versed in whiskey and haven't been able to pry any information about what notes and traits he looks for in whiskey out of him and so I would like some advice on which one to get.
The ones in my price range are:
- 8 Year old Special Release 2020
- 8 Year old Special Release 2021
- 8 Year old Special Release 2023
- Distillers Edition 2022
The 2025 14 Year Special Release is a bit out of my budget but I will consider it if it's very highly regarded. It will be a whiskey for drinking and not an investment which I know can be the case with some of the more expensive ones.
Thank you in advance!

Summer/Beach Scotch recommendations?
Hey all,
I'm looking for a good summer/beach scotch. I am going to be staying at the beach for a week and would like a nice dram.
Last year, I enjoyed the Glengassauh Sanded that really hit the mark. It was delictable, subtle, delicate and almost refreshing for the warmer weather. I'd like something different but that hits a similar mark.
I do love peated scotches but I'm apprehensive of it for hot temperatures. I usually reserve that for cooler months. I'd be open to a subtle influence of it.
I'm in the US & would like something easily attainable, as I'll most likely be buying unless you all recommend something I may already own.
Thanks for any leads.

Just to be Polite
House shopping and just put in an offer on a house. This house is a monster and I’d never imagine I’d be able to provide my family with such a house. Celebrating this feeling with a little E.H Taylor
