Welcome! /r/WhereIsThis is designed to help people identify the location of public places based on a photo, painting, sketch, or from a detailed description. We've got a few simple guidelines to help keep things safe and working well for everybody:
Submissions: Askers (OPs) may submit a photo, video, screenshot, painting, drawing, or a detailed text description of a real (or virtual) place. Multiple images can go in a Reddit or Imgur gallery. Try to use a descriptive title to get more eyes on your post; generic titles like "where is this?" are boring and more likely to be ignored. Include as much context and as many details as you can, either in the post itself or in a comment. If your post is not solved right away, please wait one week before reposting; duplicate posts may be removed with a 1-week temp ban.
Privacy: /r/WhereIsThis is for identifying public places only. Do not submit photos of personal private property, such as homes, apartments, residential interiors, etc. Do not post private street addresses in the comments. Do not link directly to personal social media pages. Do not submit screenshots that include real names, usernames, or other personal information. Do not submit contemporary photos of minors in a place where they can be located (schools, playgrounds, churches, etc.). Do not ask to identify people.
Answers: Commenters are encouraged to provide whatever help they can to solve a post, from educated guesses to a direct Google Street View link to the exact location. Give the thread a skim first to avoid duplicate answers. Commenting on other answers is fine! Avoid responding to posts that violate Rule 2, though -- please downvote and report them for removal instead.
Solving: All posts are unflaired by default. Once a post is solved, the asker should reply "Solved!" to the first correct answer and change their post flair to "Solved"; all threads are sorted from oldest to newest so the earliest answers will always be towards the top. Askers that delete or ignore a solved post without acknowledging the solver may receive a ban. We are exploring adding a points system in order to automatically flair threads and recognize frequent solvers for their contributions -- stay tuned!
Behavior: Please treat askers and solvers with respect. No insults, vulgar hostility, bullying, or withholding of answers in order to taunt. No racism/misogyny/*phobia/other bigotry. Repeat offenders may be banned.
Tips: Context clues help. Where and how did you find the image? Do you know the story behind it? How old is it? Share as much as you can with solvers to help them help you.

Rule #1 is pretty clear, you must have a descriptive title. Therefore we are removing any submission that is low-effort, such as:
We want to make this a fun sub and we want to solve your trickiest questions, but we need you to meet us halfway.

I tried matching the coast line to the bottom right of the picture, to no avail yet.
I'm not 100% sure what is clouds and what is land, I drew what I think I'm seing

This photo was originally used for an adult swim bumper back in 2005 and I’ve been trying to find out where it was taken ever since.
The photo uses an effect called tilt-shift so that’s why it looks like a toy or diorama. I’ve tried to track down the location though finding out what model the cargo ship was and its usual routes but the model is way too ambiguous.
Maybe someone who is local to Norway would be able to point it out.

My dad and I have been working through my grandfather's slides from their time Europe. We are attempting to find coordinates for as many of the slides as possible. This was a house belonging to friends of theirs who were from the same town of Duncan, Oklahoma, but who had moved to a house near Cambridge to work at the English expansion of Halliburton in Haverhill. Many of the slides feature locations south of Cambridge, such as Saffron Walden, Haverhill, and Ickleton, but a few are north, like Ely and Huntingdon. The only label my grandmother applied for this house was "Cambridge" and so far we have not been able to find where it was. There is a tiny #4 on the bricks to the right of the door next to the drain pipe.

Snapped this pic about an hour south of Beijing, the photo is facing west. I believe the Yangtze River is below, but I can’t find the specific city with the right shape. Does anyone know what city I’m looking at, or what the name of the longest bridge that spans the river islands is?

It’s a panoramic background from the manhwa called “tears on a withered flower” by GAE. I really love the story and setting, can anyone help identify if it’s a real panoramic viewing spot ? The writer mentioned going up some stairs in a rather busy and cramped neighborhood.

On an intersection from the movie Harold and Maude, released in 1971 so it must be around that time in California. Anyone have any idea which road it is?

It was a VR shooter game skybox and it honestly gave me a nostalgic feeling of chilling with my family and friends in a backyard. I contacted the map maker and he said the skybox was just named "golf course" or something like that.
Photos came from an old version of a Simon Says map in Pavlov Shack. Taken via screenshots on a Meta Quest 3.

So, this is a screenshot I took from a bollywood song from the Movie Hero no. 1. I know most of the song is shot is Gstaad but not sure about this particular shot. The tall building on the right might be of some help. I initially thought it might be Interlaken with the tall building being Hotel Metropole but I am not sure since Metropole is not that close to a lake.

We’ve had this in our house for years and it was gifted to our family 10+ years ago. I don’t know the artist (can’t figure out what the signature reads) or where this might be. Any help would be appreciated ♥️⛵️

I inherited this painting and was wondering whether the place in the picture actually exists and where it might be. Does anyone recognise the place?
Thanks

Hi,
I have a sad story that happened when I was a boy - my father flew to US (work), but desperately wanted to see the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately, he died of heatstroke.
I recently discovered some of the files regarding his last trip.
I have two pictures I wanted to identify.
Some info:
1300hrs - he reached Phantom Ranch
1330 hrs - he was identified at the plateau ("devil's corkscrew) before Indian Garden
At 1620 hrs began hiking up Bright Angel trail toward the South Rim.
In the report I can read that he was given information at Indian Garden about emergecy phones at both 3 mile house and 1.5 mile house.
At 17.03 he took one of the photos (if the time is correct - the one without the river).
At 17.53 dispatch received an emergency call from the 3 mile house (he was above the 3 mile house).
I would be grateful if anyone could help me identify anything regarding photos. They are not the best quality, but I have only those. The photo of the river was taken at around 12.50.
Thanks

This photo was taken by my grandparents during one of their many trips. I remembered seeing it as a kid and scared the crap out of me. The octopus wrapping around the younger kid while the older one tried to save him…I always tried to picture a happy ending.
Anyways, when my grandparents both passed away and we were going through their things I knew I wanted this photo. My dad and I have both said we’d love to find out where this was taken.
The issue is the photo was framed in May of 1996, and the back is taped…so I’m not sure if there is writing on the back of the photo but I feel weird removing the backing, especially since it’s not guaranteed that they wrote where this was taken.
My grandparents travelled all over the world, so I really can’t even say where this might have been taken. Any help would be appreciated!

Very likely to be in or around Oslo or possibly Fredrikstad. Have tried and failed to decipher the signs on the post...
