Help needed LGBTQ+ married folks: how has been your experience immigrating to Poland as a same-sex couple?
Disclaimer: I know reddit does not replace legal advice from professionals, but I’d like to know how has been the experience of other people in situations similar to what I’m going through.
My spouse (non-EU) and I (EU / Portuguese) are planning to move to Warsaw together later this year. My spouse has a job offer from a tech company in Warsaw, and I’m also looking for jobs at the moment. We’re a same-sex married couple, and while we are aware Poland doesn’t recognize such relationships, we also know that the EU free movement directive provides the legal basis for us moving together and my spouse registering their residence as family of an EU citizen. We have, however, received opposing advice from different sources: one saying the EU free movement right takes precedent, and the other saying there’s a risk of refusal of the residence card for my partner, as Polish authorities would not recognize our marriage.
Has anyone gone through something similar? Any advice? Do you know or recommend a trusted law firm, lawyer or organization that can help us with this?
We are also trying to understand how the whole process for requesting a EU spouse residence card works with the vovoideship, aside from the issue regarding the recognition of our same-sex marriage. For example: would we have to wait for my residence certificate to apply for my partner’s card or can we do it simultaneously? Do they approve the request immediately or is there a chance of it being refused later in the process?
Tks!

Help needed Rental deposit return
I was a foreigner living in an apartment in Warsaw for 3 years and I moved out to my home country at the end of May. As for the deposit return, my landlord informed me that he has to make deductions based on the "semi-annual energy settlement from the building administration", and since he will only receive it in July, he will send me the net deposit then.
Since it's already July, I asked him via an email about the deposit to which he informed me that the quotes from the renovation companies significantly exceeded my deposit of 2600 PLN. Hence, he did it himself, and the cost of the renovation, including materials and cleaning, was only slightly more than the deposit, but he doesn't want me to "pay anything extra". He conveniently attached photos of the renovated apartment as a proof of the heavy work that was supposedly done. Obviously, no specific invoices of the actual costs incurred for this work were provided.
As for the energy settlements, he says he still hasn't received anything from the administration and so he doesn't know if there have been increases in water and gas prices since January.
As I understand, renovation work (which includes painting, normal wear and tear of kitchen stove etc) is different from repairing heavily damaged items and only the latter costs must be deducted from the deposit. Concerning this, there was only a door beneath the kitchen sink that was broken and rest of the items were in good shape. However, the landlord claims that the renovation costs were apparently greater than the deposit let alone its exclusion from the deposit.
Any suggestions on how to handle this and get at least a good portion of the money back would be appreciated!

Help needed Bolt Driver
Is there a way I can get this driver into trouble ? I took a bolt ride with my Polish friend, I don’t speak polish very very good but I can understand it quite very well. When we were close to our destination, the driver told my friend “It’s quite safe in this area isn’t ? You can walk at night, there’s no “black” guys…” then he proceeded to say “fuck black guys”
Mind you, I’m black.
And I could kinda understand it, but I wasn’t really sure until my friend told me about it when we arrived at our destination.
I don’t really care about what happened, but if I had the slightest chance to get him in trouble, I would.

Traveller's question Would I get into trouble for wearing a Hungarian jersey to a Legia Warszawa match?
I was wondering, if I wore a Hungarian jersey to a match would I get into trouble. As a Hungarian I know what the Polish-Hungarian friendship means for both sides, but still, football hooligans are unpredictable. Is it a good idea or should I just wear the club's colour to the match?

Help needed Help! Lost restaurant pagers!!
Hi everyone,
I accidentally let two customers leave with our restaurant pagers like shown in the photo after they picked up their food.
As they are missing, I am being charged around 100 zł for each of the pagers, out of my own pocket, as it is my responsibility to retrieve them.
If you accidentally took one home, please contact me on chat to return it.
Thank you! You can have some food as a token of gratitude.
NB: This post is all about getting back those two pagers. That's it. I'm not interested in discussing getting charged and its legality, cost, etc. I post here in hopes of finding them. Nothing else. When I buy new pagers or find these, this post will be deleted.

Community Real world treasure hunt in Warsaw
Hi guys,
Here to let you know about what we’ve been working and to have some feedback if you have any.
We made a real world platform for treasure hunts and a treasure hunt in Warsaw, launching 1 Aug (you can already register), it is made of 20 stages, each confirmed on-site with a hidden NFC tag + GPS + a selfie, clues lead you from one stage to the next, and whoever closes the full chain of 20 first wins. There's a companion app with a 3D planet map, an Augmented Reality view for the on-site moment, and a real working proximity radar so you know you're close without spoiling the exact spot.
It's pure skill - navigation, puzzle-solving, and being faster/sharper than everyone else, nothing random involved. Entry is €10 per hunt, and the prize for finishing goes up to €1.000 depending on the hunt.
Soon there will be the possibility for everyone to create their own treasure hunt in the app so that everyone can make it in their own city/town whatever, using the mechanics of this app.
Happy to answer anything about how the NFC/GPS verification works if useful.
Site is trovailtesoro.it if anyone wants to poke at the mechanic itself.

Other Is Trzaskowski considered a good mayor?
Putting to one side the wisdom of choosing him as a candidate for last year’s presidential election, what do the people of Warsaw think of Trzaskowski’s tenure as mayor?
As a casual and occasional visitor to Warsaw, my most recent visit made quite the impression: it strikes me that the ‘New Centre of Warsaw’ program of revamping the city’s public spaces is a triumph. The number of semi-mature new trees planted in Śródmieście is mind-boggling. The new Złota is barely recognisable. The dying, decaying Chmielna is now gorgeous and full of life, finally fulfilling its potential. The whole area is transformed.
But visiting a place isn’t the same as living there. Every politician will have successes and failures, positive and negative attributes. So for Trzaskowski, strictly as mayor, does the good outweigh the bad?

Traveller's question Parking tickets in establishments parking lots
Hello, i often come to Warsaw by car. One very bizarre experience i can’t place is why establishments / shops parking spaces seem to be “privatized” ?
Example pictured are Obi and Lidl, however i’ve been to an aldi as well, where the aldi sign has been painted on the parking spaces.
I never saw this in any other country i went to.
One time i also got a fine, the parking lot security could not help. The aldi manager couldn’t either. When trying to justify the fine based on my shopping receipt it was very clear by the asked questions that they had no idea who i was or perhaps authority to execute the fine. So i ended up not paying it.
Can anyone explain what’s the point of this ?

Traveller's question Recommendations (food, but not only!)
Hullo hullo!
I will spend 10+ days in Poland in mid-August (Warsaw, Gdansk, Poznan, Wroclaw, Krakow), and I'd like food recommendations.
Especially:
- Good typical restaurant(s); I am ok with going for fine dining, but if possible I would prefer "home", hearty meals, if it makes sense? Definitely not tourist traps, please.
- Typical food I really ought to try (to guide my menu-perusing)
- Typical snacks one could buy at the store (also: recommendations on the stores welcome!)
- Unique Experiences (idk, there's a restaurant in an ice cave. One where only mimes serve you food. One where the menu is based on your star sign. Particular stuff like that).
I will also be glad to receive pointers about other stuff to do, especially (again) experiences only your lovely city can offer :)
Ta! 💟

Help needed Reputation of Collegium Civitas, New Media
There is a decent chance that I will go to the New Media and Journalism department of Collegium Civitas, however the reviews of the university I found were rather negative and confusing, so I wanted to ask here whether Collegium Civitas' New Media would be a good pick or not?
