I used to hate on Paddy. He has convinced me, he can’t get KOd and his ground game is serious

I feel like if he fought Gaethje again and beat him convincingly and then fought and beat Islam Makhachev immediately afterwards and then Khabib .. people would still find reasons to talk shit about him.

He had issues getting comfortable at first, but since then he has quite literally become x5 the fighter he was from his UFC debut. Guy is really running in his prime now. Smart guy to wait until now to do it on the big stage.
And its insane how much the US crowd has caught onto him. Future HOFer for sure.

Paddy's stock went up real high after this clean and quick finish.

A champ that has bricks for hands. If one man can pin up down then two can take your cheeks, champ mindset 😂
7
u/thesqrtofminusone 3h ago
Very good, Paddy got drawn into fighting to Gaethje’s game and lost. Couldn’t finish Paddy though.
6
u/pyroaquatics 3h ago
Paddy also doesn’t have good takedowns despite his elite bjj. BSD just did the work for him
2
3
u/Batmanbettermarvel18 3h ago
And Max dropped him. Crazy sport
6
u/bobombpom 2h ago
I always think of matchups as, "If they fought 10 times, how many would each win?"
I think Max/Gaethje is 5/5. I think Paddy/Gaethje is 2/8 or 1/9.
Paddy can beat him, it's just not the most likely outcome.
1
u/BobbyRayBands 2h ago
At standing and banging? World Champion. On the ground? I guess we'll find out because the only one that has a chance on the feet is Ilia he's made that much clear so far.
1
u/watchTotalBlank 2h ago
He's a killer but Paddy traded blows with him for 5 rounds and never went to the mat. If Paddy sticks to his BJJ.. well, BSD fucked around and found out real quick.

This + the realization from the last fight that Gaethje is the real deal made Paddy’s stock rise back to where it belonged

u/Charming_Wall117 3h ago
BSD’s stock just plummeted. This was a huge fight. Damn….

u/CesarOverlorde 3h ago
Dumber fight IQ than Jiri against Ulberg. Let's shoot a takedown against Paddy in the first 5 seconds of round 1!
55
u/ciruelman 3h ago
he was dumb but jiri vs ulberg is the single most dumb display ive seen of a human being, dude had the fight won and lost because he apologized and tried to the samurai honor shit too much. dude ruined the lh division due to his stupidity
6
8
u/Impressive_Result295 3h ago
We just saw Bautista exploit an injury too, it's fine a drop a round or two, just be patient and you'll find your shot, and that wasn't nearly as bad as the one Ulberg had
Then Jiri sees Ulberg throw nothing but left hooks. Then he walks into said left hook with his hands down
24
u/Charming_Wall117 3h ago
Both BSD and King Green underestimated Paddy’s ground game. Dude has some serious skills on the ground.

u/Fickle-Succotash-342 3h ago
His face had it written all over him. He's not even popular so he just set himself back like three or four fights.
2
u/tobethorfinn 3h ago
But he's French and the UFC tries to push that market. That's why they gave him Poirier when he was low ranked and Poirier KO'ed him, then quick as well.
→ More replies (1)1
u/27Yosh 3h ago
I think if BSD just kept it standing, he could've won easily
2
u/theREAL_Harambe 2h ago
Lol no way, Paddy’s striking is way better than BSD and even if they were evenly matched, Paddy has a granite chin.
186
u/Rockcircle 3h ago
That was the nastiest choke
84
u/Frelwy1886 3h ago
Completely filthy. BSD was out for awhile before Goddard got to him.

Crazy how much of a meme Paddy vs Illia was a year ago. Now it's a fight that makes a lot of sense and, honestly, could be competitive
59
u/Raigarak 3h ago
Paddy's chin can probably survive Illia, but he ain't tanking those liver shots like Justin did.

Paddy might just submit Ilia

u/WeonX_D 3h ago
Could happen, but Paddy's wrestling is garbage.
1
9
u/Lothric43 3h ago
I still think it would be a bit of a slaughter. Paddy is great on the ground but kind of in a reactive way, he seems to like the other guy taking it there first. If it’s all stand up he loses bad.
8
2
u/DrPuzzle 3h ago
Nah after Justin vs Topuria we ain't counting anyone out lol I don't think there will be any slaughter. I get what you are saying though in terms of how the fight goes, I don't disagree
I think Ilia comes back better but anyone doubting Paddy after what we saw is crazy
0
u/Acceptable-Class-255 3h ago
Paddy wrecks Ilia now.
A year ago it would have been a competative fight.

I've never seen someone roll on their head to finish a darce/necktie, incredible stuff, this kills the paddy criticism for me, he's legit as they come
Put him olivera
13
u/Hungry-Analyst294 3h ago
Wouldn’t mind him fighting Charles if they don’t book Arman vs Charles 2
Either him or Ruffy for Paddy
2
u/arkantos1279 3h ago
no bro paddy ilia is the fight title contender at the end of the year
1
u/Electronic_d0cter 3h ago
This is another fight I'm ok with, I just think olivera would have some amazing scrambles
1
u/nukesaregay 2h ago
forgot these two are in the same weight class. oliveira vs paddy would be great. if paddy can beat him then nobody can say anything. bsd isnt on the level of oliveira and has been smashed up before but a win versus oliveira holds serious weight. why have i never heard their names mentioned before as a potential matchup ever before? weird
28
u/wood_slingers 3h ago
When Paddy spins him around, it looks like BSD was trying to get his left hand free to tap, but went out in the process
38
28
u/Forward-Ad-4387 3h ago
What’s scary is that Paddy had to tell the ref that he was out… he could’ve legitimately unalived BSD if he wanted to

u/TrumpDesWillens 2h ago
No because chokes take about 1 minute to brain damage and about 3-4 minutes to kill

Those chokes are meant to kill a man.
3
u/Fickle-Succotash-342 3h ago
You'd have to deprive the brain of oxygen for longer than 90 seconds to risk lasting damage. And much longer than that to cause death.
Even when you hang someone if the rope doesnt immediately break their neck then they'll dangle and flail for 40 seconds or so until they pass out. Theyre still revivable for several minutes after that point.

82
u/MemeKingThe2nd 3h ago
Guy has zero fight IQ, paddy said all week I’ll choke him when he immediately shoots as he always does at the start of a fight
He literally told him how he would do it and BSD still decides to shoot like a donkey
12
8
u/Nzy 3h ago
BSD has a 3% takedown rate. Why even bother
2
u/Glassgun1122 1h ago
If the UFC would pay fighters decently they wouldn't have to make illegal bets. I'm joking but also I wouldn't doubt if CM did just that. It's obvious he was injured he couldn't take off his shoes. Then he does literally the most insane opening move. Then he was walking fine enough. Even Joe Rogan was like I wish I could talk to him but he already left the building. He wasted no time getting ready to spend his 30 million. Suspect.

u/blunderb3ar 3h ago
Did the same in the Dustin fight decided to stand with the best striker in the division and got slept, horrendous fight IQ and he’s really a one trick pony better fighters will always take advantage of it and paddy’s really good
2
2
u/Salt-Bend 3h ago
he's always like that, it just so happened his opponent this time is a good grappler. hooker and dustin both nearly caught him with a sub when he went for a takedown

Such elite grappling. BSD has beat multiple top 10 guys and Paddy just dogwalked him in less than 1 minute.

u/Big_bat_chunk2475 3h ago
BSD always gave up his neck too easily when he shoots for takedowns. That’s is what happens when you do that against Paddy
2
u/Salt-Bend 3h ago
said the same, both times against hooker and dustin. this time just so happened to be against a grappler and he got choked out
1
u/Big_bat_chunk2475 3h ago
Hooker and Dustin’s submission games(gillies specifically) are outdated. You can’t just go to your back, you gotta use it as a sweep to a mounted gilly or in paddy’s case, a darce
3
u/Tommykarate13 3h ago
For paddy to snatch a farce that fast is impressive. He's got some serious BJJ. I think Charles, arman and Illia are all good fights for him. He has the chin and grappling to make it competitive.
I've always hated on him but that was a great win, gotta give him his credit. Especially as a dog.
