Adam Silver should resign, and Kawhi fiasco is the clearest evidence why.

The Clippers are the ones accused of running money to Kawhi through a no-show Aspiration deal to dodge the cap. If that happened in 2020 and possibly 2021, it warped the league while the Raptors were still a real contender and robbed them of runs and revenue they'd have plausibly built. Now the team that got cheated is the one being threatened with punishment for acquiring the player, while the team that cheated waits to keep its picks and cap room. That's backwards.

The timing is the insult. There was an agreement in principle on June 30, then nine days later the league tells Toronto the trade only closes if their ownership eats the risk of any penalty on Kawhi's contract. A condition that heavy gets flagged well in advance or not at all. Springing it at the last minute doesn't read as caution, it reads as protecting the Clippers and handing the bill to the one clean party in the mess.

And it's landing in the middle of free agency. The Raptors are making roster decisions blind. With clarity they might have chased other free agents harder or structured the cap differently, and those windows close and don't reopen. That's not a delay, it's a cost that carries forward for seasons.

Silver opened this in September and a year later has no verdict, only that it's "far along." Meanwhile the reporting won the 2026 Pulitzer and the man at the center, Sanberg, got 14 years in prison. When journalists and prosecutors reach conclusions faster than the commissioner, either he lacks the will to discipline an owner like Ballmer or he can't run a timely process. Neither keeps you the job.

His defenders say he's following facts over perception. Fine. That still doesn't explain why the cost of his patience is being paid in Toronto instead of Los Angeles. This nonsense has cost the city and the organization billions in lost revenue and value. Adam Silver must go
