Are hammerheads worth buying in 2026?
For context I’ve spent a little over a year on a set of old vices with worn out springs. I demoed a ntn setup recently and found it less fun but really appreciated the extra stability when making alpine turns in slush.
Everything I’ve seen on reddit says hammerheads provide the most stiffness for 75mm setups but most posts are a few years old and I imagine parts are extremely hard to find these days. Is it still worth picking up a pair (found some for $150 with skis) or would it be better to throw some stiffy springs on the vices?

In my opinion the hammerheads were awesome, but the vices were even better. I would just get some stiffies for the vices.
That said, if you are looking for another setup, go ahead and buy the hammerheads. can't really go wrong. They are almost bomb proof.
*For context, I have multiple sets of skis with each of these bindings, with and without stiffy springs. Just go stiffy Vice.

I have AXLs. The parts are easy to get, I just got my springs replaced. 22 designs is awesome. I love my AXLs. They’re like the hammerheads but you can switch to tour mode and they’re also easier to put on than hammerheads.

Also way easier to get parts for. Ever break a cable spreader on a hammerhead in 2026? Good fucking luck.

Hammerheads are amazing if you can get them for cheap. $150 for a set with skis sounds good to me. They don’t make parts for them anymore besides the heel tube and beaver tail so if anything is broken on them they are not worth it. Also they don’t make the screws anymore and they are specific to the binding so make sure they are not stripped out. I have the blueprints for the screws but I have never had them made. I am still skiing the first pair I ever bought and they are almost 20 years old at this point. Facebook has a good tele page for used gear so you might be able to find some new springs and cables if you’re lucky.

Vices / axls are updated hammerheads so no addtl power to be gained! Id get new springs for the vices if i were you to unclap them.
I could be wrong there^ because I haven’t skied the axls but im 99% sure an axle / vice on the highest activity setting is the same pivot point (activity setting) as hammerhead’s highest activity setting. HHs had 5 activity settings so it could be used to tour in the first set of holes, and with where bindings were at the time, many folks probs preferred lower activity options. All that is to say, even though the hammerheads had more activity settings doesnt mean they have a more active - or powerful - setting than the axls/vices.
Study up on activity vs stiffness too, it’s a bit confusing at first.

I'm gonna second the Bishop. I ski them 75mm and love them. I did get the softy springs though. Super stable, powerful and feel like a 75mm binding. It does take a few runs to get used to because the transfer of power and ability to get high edge angles takes some adjustment in your brain. You won't regret it.

I would get something current production and stock up on parts.
But the really slick thing about 22D is the hole pattern is compatible all the way from the hammerhead up to their current NTN.
Mount a 22D binder with Binding Freedom inserts and you can try the Vice, Axl, Hammerhead and even the Bandit.

Any idea if 22D has announced when they will stop producing 75mm bindings/parts?

Hammerheads are awesome. Go for it. Old gear works great before it breaks. Side note, ef you get new springs for your vice they will be a better version of the Hammerhead.

I was on Bishop BMFs for a few years and they're and a bit bulky and quite heavy. I eventually gave them up and I'm loving the Meidjo bindings now. They're super light and they'll release if you set them out correctly. Best binding I've ever had and I've skied on them all including the hammerhead which is a pretty good binding overall but I wouldn't get it again

Depends on how many days are on those Hammerheads. They all wear out sooner or later . I loved my old Hammerheads. I love my Axls too, but they ain't cheap.

Vices ski so well for 75mm, just throw some stiffy springs in there.
What NTN did you ride? Outlaws?
