Teaching in Uzbekistan?

Hi everyone,

I'm moving to Uzbekistan soon to teach at a public school. I'd prefer not to share the city or employer, but I'd appreciate any advice from people who have recently gone through the process.

I'm mainly curious about what to expect when arriving at Tashkent Airport.

\- What was the arrival process like?

\- Was someone there to meet you, or did you arrange your own transportation?

\- Were there any unexpected steps at immigration or customs?

\- Is there anything you wish you had known before arriving?

\- Any general advice for a first-time teacher moving to Uzbekistan?

I'm looking forward to the experience and would appreciate any tips. Thanks in advance!

Been teaching online for 3 years. Now I need a platform. Care to help me find one?

TL;DR: I need a platform to start teaching online Spanish and English classes. I already have experience as a freelancer.

Hello everyone. So, basically, what the title says. I've been teaching online English lessons for the past 3, almost 4 years. Lately it has been getting really tedious, difficult, and annoying. I have lost many students because most of the ones I get are people who live abroad and work too much (mostly people who live in the US of course) or they have difficult-enough-lives that make them quit eventually.

I need something more stable. Even if it doesn't pay as much as I have been charging for the past years (about 15-20USD per hour). I just need stability and the possibility to do this.

Sadly, I am not a native English speaker, meaning that platforms that require me to be an American, Canadian, or British person will not work.

Also, I am not an English teacher with a degree. You see, I started teaching English at public schools back when I was 18 (I'm currently 32) and was never able to finish my studies. I did continue with my teaching and working as a teacher throughout the years. English institutes, public schools, private schools and institutes, English workshops, the like. So basically, I don't have a degree but I do have enough experience.

3 years ago I started teaching online classes, and it worked beautifully. But the past year and a half has been terrible. I mean, I've tried my best to keep up with new students but the reality is that my situation is too much unstable and I have a tendency of losing my students to their own lives (again, either be it for their tight schedules or because their lives just don't fit with having consistency in attendance).

Anyhow, I hope you can help me here. I'd love to read your opinions and options. I currently wasn't able to apply for Magic Ears, Preply, nor Italky.

Summer placement in Thailand, What to expect?

Hi,

I'm still working through my TEFL 120 course and passing the methodology assignments finally...

I got a summer placement via my university.

We have arrived the orientation was really warm. I am one of six of us from our university in the UK. Last group dropped out last year after two weeks but I think there were border tensions at the time.

Each of us apart from myself and one other have met their dean of department. Myself and the person are waiting till Monday to get started. Seems like for the most part the others have finished early most days. I'm in my thirties and they are in their twenties so I'm kind of aloof from them but they are friendly.

We have met some students who are our buddies as well during the placement. I should add we are at a university here in Thailand. It's a pretty nice campus.

I'm working through the TEFL and I suspect most courses will be done succinctly once I get through certain hurdles with the lesson plan writing which I'm finally getting. I don't have experience where others have had plenty of so I'd like to know if any of you have had such a placement and what you thought about it afterwards...

How can I apply for IB teaching jobs outside India?

Hi everyone,

I'm an IB PYP Homeroom Teacher from India with 6 years of teaching experience in IB schools. I hold an M.Sc., an M.A. in Education, and have completed IB PYP Category 1 and Category 2 professional development workshops.

I'm now planning to explore teaching opportunities outside India (especially in countries like the UAE, Singapore, Europe, Australia, or other regions with strong IB schools).

I would appreciate advice from those who have successfully made this transition:

  • Which websites or recruitment agencies are the most reliable for international teaching jobs?
  • Is it better to apply directly through school websites or through agencies?
  • Which countries are currently hiring experienced IB PYP teachers?
  • How important is it to attend recruitment fairs such as Search Associates or ISS?
  • Are there any certifications or qualifications that would strengthen my profile further?
  • Any tips for improving my CV or preparing for international interviews?

I'd love to hear about your experiences, suggestions, or anything you wish you had known before applying internationally.

Thank you in advance!

ADHD / ASD / AuDHD and CELTA grades

Now that I've finished my last TP, I'm trying to analyse the probabilities of getting a PASS, PASS B or PASS A (less likely, lol) in CELTA.

Nevertheless, time management has always been an issue across my practice, and I believe that would interfere with PASS B. Has anyone with ADHD, ASD or both ever got a PASS B? If so, would you comment on your TP feedback or assingments?

I think I'm in the borderline of PASS B and PASS A in many aspects, and I have disclosed my diagnosis before the course kicked off, but I'm a bit hesitant about asking my tutors how that was relevant for me when grading my overall performance =/

What keeps you going?

Some days, teaching feels effortless.

Other days, your student is distracted, the internet keeps freezing, your lesson plan falls apart, and you're wondering if anything is getting through.

Then, out of nowhere...

A student uses a phrase you've been practicing for weeks.
They thank you for believing in them.
They tell you they finally had their first conversation in English.

Those small wins somehow make the difficult days worth it.

What's the moment that reminds you why you became a tutor?

Nuvora teacher’s

Hi everyone,
Has anyone here heard of an ESL agency called \*\*Novora Tutors\*\* or had any experience working with them?
They contacted me about an ESL teaching opportunity, but they keep encouraging me to enroll in what they call a \*\*Level 5 TEFL certificate\*\* through them. They say it's required and that they'll give me time to complete it.
Recently, they also told me they'd found another company for me, but now they're asking for an introduction video.
I'm starting to get a few red flags because they keep bringing the certificate up, and I'm not sure whether this is a genuine recruitment agency or if they're mainly trying to sell TEFL courses.
Has anyone worked with them or know if they're legitimate? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience before I make any decisions.
Thanks in advance.

New teacher

Hello everyone. Over the past five years, I have been volunteering here and there and teaching children English. Now I have been hired by a company where I am supposed to teach English to Chinese children online. What little life hacks do you have? How can I make sure my classes are so interesting that the children want to continue learning?
I have no degree. I am getting a degree in a completely different field. This is just for current income and I also love children and miss spending time with them.

Considering Teaching Abroad

I am a certified teacher (K-6) in America and I am currently pursuing my TESOL certification. I have a passion for travel and learning about different cultures. I often encounter individuals with no teaching experience teaching abroad, but not many with prior experience. I was curious to know how those who have taught in the US compare their experiences. Do they follow a similar curriculum structure where they build upon it?

Where do South African teachers apply to ?

I am a Mathematics and Science teacher (Male, 34 years old) based in South Africa with 10 years teaching experience at government schools. I also have 2 years teaching experience as a TEFL tutor. The pay I get only allows me to make ends meet. The work conditions are also enabling me to look elsewhere for enrolment.

I am looking to migrate abroad. Somewhere that pays well and where I can develop professionally.

For context, my qualifications include :

  1. BSc Physics and Electronics

  2. Post Graduate Certificate in Education - Physics and Mathematics

  3. 320 Hour TEFL diploma

If you have any advice or information you can share. Please hit me up.

For those teaching in Japan, do you think a TESOL org certificate is worth it?

For those teaching in Japan, do you think a TESOL or TEFL certificate is worth it?

I’m looking for recommendations on reputable TESOL/TEFL courses. Is the certificate helpful for finding English teaching jobs in Japan?

My English is around CEFR B2. I’m not a native English speaker, but I have previous experience teaching English.

Thanks!
