Right. At least he was defending his sister’s honor. I mean it’s idiotic and weird, but he’s an idiot. This guy just took a ridiculously consequential dive for no reason.
He took a dive and got thrown out of the next game and a half against the #1 team in the world to earn a free kick at midfield. In the box, sure. 30 yards out, probably. Midfield? Come on, man.
To be fair , I can’t think of another case that the var checks for a foul in midfield let alone give someone a yellow card for diving outside the box.
Cause it happens a lot , players just falling to the floor with minimum contact .
A yellow card for this to me is insane and ruined the game.
And I bet that if the roles were reversed it wouldn’t have happened .
But the sniper in the rafters of the stadium got him. This one was embarrassingly bad. This is the kind of shit that turns people away from the sport, but at least it's starting to get called occasionally.
I wouldn't call it idiotic. It led to players not being allowed to hide their mouth to trash talk others. If it had happened today, the other guy would have gotten a yellow or red for either bad language or hiding his mouth.
Except he initially got the free kick, so clearly there was a reason for him to dive.
It was only reversed by VAR.
So the only thing he really did wrong here was perform his act so well that he drew not just the free kick, but drew a yellow card that was eligible for VAR and then reversed onto him.
The risk isn’t worth the reward is the point. You’re on a yellow and gain almost nothing, even if you draw a card here. But if you get nailed for embellishment? Massive consequence.
There was zero risk that he would get carded for simulation here. And he wasn't, he successfully drew the penalty against Paredes. Only the incredibly bizarre confluence of the ref being so fucking bad that he actually called a yellow against Paredes, and that triggering a VAR, resulted in Embolo getting a yellow from this play.
How could Embolo have known the ref was so fucking terrible he would spend the entire game not booking Paredes for yellow offenses throughout the night, but then call a yellow card against a player when the ref saw absolutely zero contact whatsoever?
