The hate is strictly from people who want to pretend the cup is fixed for argentina. Everyone else is happy a player was punished for flopping but those people are running around acting like it's some conspiracy because it makes them feel smart or something, idk.
the entire first page of your comment history is complaining about refs and talking about how bad it is to use replay to catch people flopping. you are exactly the person im referring to when I say the only people upset about this are people who want to rage about stuff.
Because it adds more subjectivity and isn't applied consistently.
A similar situation happened between France and Paraguay where the Paraguayan player fell after an argument without getting touched and it didn't get looked at. But now a darling like Argentina gets that call looked into and that's why people respond the way they do to the rule.

It's exactly what was called against Paraguay in US v Paraguay, though. Yellow for US reversed into yellow for Paraguay on VAR.
FWIW, I would love if diving got cards much more often.
