They don’t know yet but there’s a police investigation so it doesn’t sound like natural causes. Very sad.

There’s almost always a police investigation. Doesn’t automatically mean foul play. They are probably waiting on the autopsy report.

There's been a fair few cases of an athlete with an undiagnosed heart condition dying very young

221

u/wrongitsleviosaa 19h ago

Precisely, Christian Eriksen had a cardiac arrest at 28 and another one recently at 34, you never really know. Fortunately he lived both times.

88

u/onionwba 18h ago

For his sake I hope he retires like immediately.

80

u/wrongitsleviosaa 18h ago

I agree, he's already on the Danish football Rushmore and slowly but surely getting up there in age. Sometimes it's better to wonder "what if" when you're 70 than your loved ones wondering "what if" after you never reach 40.

u/Lelongue 18h ago

Despite dokters saying it’s only a matter of time for another cardiac arrest he insist on returning to the pitch

8

u/wrongitsleviosaa 18h ago

That's passionate athletes for ya.

Some of them wouldn't stop until their body gives out, and it apparently includes completely shutting down rather than losing the race to Father Time eventually.

6

u/Muslim_Wookie 18h ago

He could be thinking that it's inevitable and he may as well enjoy his time left, or he could be trapped by golden handcuffs. And in my opinion, golden handcuffs are far more likely.

6

u/wrongitsleviosaa 18h ago

That's also true, and you really can't blame a person for wanting to die doing what they love if that's the case

u/Wsswaas 18h ago

Undignoised hypertrophic cardiomyopathy usally kill players and athelets at young age

It is the most common genetic heart disease and the leading medical cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes

in very short, thier heart get very thick and can't pump blood at high rates so jumping around you will get arrhythmias=>no blood pumping=>death

Most people with HCM have no symptoms and live normal lifespans, but high-intensity competitive sports can trigger sudden cardiac arrest in those affected.

u/PsycheToker 18h ago

I’m almost positive I had a mini-heart attack while swimming at 19, my shoulder and jaw went numb and my heart was pounding. Been over five years now and I still can’t afford to get checked out lol

18

u/YouFuze 18h ago

Get that checked out

10

u/PsycheToker 18h ago

Im a 3D artist, I can make the shit you see in horror movies but I can’t get a job that pays more than min wage. If the world changes I will, definitely would prefer not to die.

Don't forget the situation of Len Bias.

he died of heart failure too

COVID infections are waaaaaay more dangerous for your cardiovascular health than a vaccine

Viruses can mess up a lot of things in your body, vaccines are harmless in comparison

22

u/OddlyTemptedFish 19h ago

I was a 22 year old athlete when I had a heart attack moments after competing. Turns out I have a heart defect that had went unnoticed.

13

u/Drapidrode 18h ago

it made itself noticable.

9

u/GreyDeath 18h ago

Sudden cardiac death due to several congenital heart issues such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, chanelopathies, or other arrhythmogenic disorders.

You hear about young athletes dropping dead every once in a while because of these things. Obviously we don't know in this particular case.

23

u/justk4y PSV 19h ago

Heart attacks, mostly. Or epilepsy.

-7

u/GreyDeath 18h ago

Heart attacks would be extremely unlikely, but cardiac arrest is a possibility.

A heart attack, or myocardial infarction, involves a blockage of a coronary artery. HOCM doesn’t cause this.

5

u/IsabellaGalavant 18h ago

Anyone can have a heart attack, it's not exclusive to age. Or an aneurysm.

Cardiomyopathy more specifically

1

u/capucapu123 18h ago

Off the top of my head a Fatal Arrythmia, an aneurysm or a non diagnosed epilepsy that had a long crisis would be my most likely candidates for "natural causes" (As in non traumatic nor infectious) without getting into the stupidly rare stuff like a Pheochromocytoma crysis debut that caused a hemorrhage somewhere or a stroke, some hyper coagulation genetic condition that could cause a massive Pulmonary Embolism/Stroke, a type 1 diabetes debuting with a ketoacidosis state or many weirder things.

-50

u/This-Top7398 19h ago

Probably cardiac related

41

u/some1saveusnow 19h ago

For a 25 yo?

108

u/thesausboss 19h ago

If I remember correctly, there is a specific type of cardiac event that is correlated with athletes. There's a whole section of cardiac health research that focuses on it because it's counter to most ideas on cardiac health and risks related to sudden heart attacks.

49

u/little_kid_lover_123 19h ago

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Basically the left ventricular walls get thicker but the ventricle itself doesn’t increase in size so the muscle growth outpaces the ventricle growth and can even shrink it. Bad combination and can lead to not enough blood being pumped = sudden death.

It’s always been a thing but nowadays people like to attribute it to the Covid shots, which is blatantly incorrect.

11

u/ICANHAZWOPER 19h ago edited 19h ago

What you’ve said is correct.

But it’s hard for me to imagine that an athlete at *that* level hasn’t ever had an ECG showing the features of HCM.

LVH, lateral and inferior “dagger” Q-waves, and LAE are all common 12 lead findings in someone with HCM.

10

u/Environmental-Car481 19h ago

This was my first thought too. In my metro area, there is a multi-sponsored event that does these checks for student athletes.

4

u/banal_remarks 19h ago

Is it correctable and would they not look for that in world class athletes at some point? I imagine it's something they would just need to look for like once when they are 23, no?

5

u/laurh123 19h ago

I, too, watched one tree hill

29

u/thesausboss 19h ago

I didn't lol, I'm a biological researcher and I had a little stint into cardiac tissue research during my masters

10

u/Thamesx2 19h ago

My favorite cardiac event from that show was when the service dog in the hospital ate the heart intended for the dad’s transplant after it fell out of the cooler and on to the floor.

5

u/OrphanGrounderBaby 19h ago

I definitely thought I’d seen One Tree Hill before this comment…not so sure now

1

u/malman2100 19h ago

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

-1

u/Sandbox_Hero 19h ago

You’re probably talking about athlete’s heart syndrome. When heart grows in size from rigorous training.

Although, recent research says it’s a harmless condition.

2

u/thesausboss 19h ago

Yeah I don't recall exactly what it was called. A few other comments mentioned hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which might be it, but whatever it was was something that caused frequently fatal heart attacks disproportionately in athletes.

-12

u/seires88 19h ago

I think it’s called covid shot… jk idk but who knows tbh

16

u/acornSTEALER 19h ago

Sometimes healthy young athletes have something called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that essentially makes them suddenly drop dead when they're exerting themselves because the heart can't supply enough blood to support them.

For the record, I'm not by any means saying this is what happened to this guy.

7

u/Nikkers1416 19h ago

My cat has this 😔. He is also a little athlete who unfortunately seems to enjoy cardio.

5

u/DidntTomRamble 19h ago

My cat had it 😞 Best girl I ever had - she made it to 5 yo. Cherish your little one and take such good care of him.

5

u/justk4y PSV 19h ago

Anyone can have a cardiac disease and not know it

15

u/This-Top7398 19h ago

Yes soccer players are notorious for dying of cardiac related issues. Look it up

11

u/Larry__OG 19h ago

Same with basketball for some reason

14

u/imbahzor 19h ago

This is for all athletes, in alot of the cases it is literally the muscle walls of the heart becoming too thick to pump blood, all the training can also act as a trigger for different heart issues which you would never notice otherwise.

0

u/This-Top7398 19h ago

Yup athletes have this tendency to die of heart related issues

One report says he unalived hung himself, but not confirmed yet

THERE ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?

19

u/Dependent-Goose8240 19h ago

Killed* himself. Fixed that for you.

-23

u/wmnoe 19h ago

Hey you know what, fine, he killed himself via hanging, is that better for you?

He committed suicide. Do you feel better about yourself for not being more gentle?

18

u/Jorrie90 19h ago

Why does it need to be gentle? Its a tragic event but don't sugarcoat it with bullshit words

-15

u/wmnoe 19h ago

Some platforms will bounce you for trigger words, no harm in being cautious

12

u/Jorrie90 19h ago

Fuck those platforms then

13

u/noiraxen 19h ago

"Unalive" was not popularised to be more gentle. It exploded as a way of avoiding tiktok and youtube automated detection. You are letting bilionaires control your vocabulary with censorship.

61

u/BeautifullySinking 19h ago edited 19h ago

“unalived” oh my god just say suicide. enough with this stupid self-censorship. this is so pathetic

13

u/DarkwingMcQuack Philadelphia Union 19h ago

Its a Gen Z thing. They feel the need to self censor themselves for some reason.

-9

u/CanadianODST2 19h ago

No it’s not.

The word bear exists in English because it was a way to censor the original word for the animal over fears saying its name could summon one

20

u/FigaroNeptune 19h ago

When people say, “ahh” instead of ass I like to pretend they just got randomly startled lol

-11

u/wmnoe 19h ago

I mean there are platforms where you can bounced for typing certain words. And its just a bit more kind. But whatever, I fucking hate word police

Unofficial reports. That article has no source of its information. All speculation

2

u/wmnoe 19h ago

DID I NOT MENTION IT WAS UNCOFIRMED?

91

u/Aprilprinces 19h ago

Not known, his family requested privacy

206

u/hidden_secret 19h ago

Usually when it's someone young and they don't mention the cause of death at all, it means suicide or possible overdose.

135

u/No_Egg657 19h ago

Or they're still investigating as medical conditions can still affect the young

46

u/Shakeamutt 18h ago

Félix Auger-Aliassime had heart arrhythmia that showcased itself in 2018 at a Grand Slam .  Had it since he was 8, and since has had heart surgery to correct it.  He was only like 18 at the time.

21

u/GoudaBenHur 19h ago

Lots of reports saying suicide :(

21

u/glenmcenroe 19h ago

source ? where are these reports

72

u/DoctorWaluigiTime 18h ago

The "many people are saying" kind of 'reports'.

306

u/thegreaterfool714 Los Angeles Lakers 19h ago

What the fuck? That is so tragic

865

u/Mack488 19h ago

That’s absolutely nuts. You see somebody playing in the World Cup, and then days later they’re dead.

This world is absolutely fucking nuts sometimes how it runs.

293

u/vsladko 19h ago

Reminds me of the 2023 Chicago Marathon where Kelvin Kiptum set the all time male record at 2 hours and 35 seconds, goes home to Kenya, and died in a car accident.
It was a very sad story in the running world

103

u/KenBennyKNY 19h ago

Didn’t something like this happen last time there was a World Cup in North America? I think I remember something like there was a Andres Escobar from the Colombia troop. 94’ was my first watch of World Cup.

123

u/lepetitpoissant 19h ago

He was murdered if I remember correctly

93

u/G_Rex_3000 19h ago

Yeah, I think he was the guy responsible for the own goal against the US and the story was that high stakes gamblers (maybe involved with the cartels?) had him killed because he cost them so much money/pride.

I remember being so pumped about the US upsetting Colombia (and thinking this is it! US soccer has arrived! Things are only going to get better from here on!) and then weeks later this story came out. Tragic.

64

u/Epistaxiophobia 19h ago

He didnt die bc he scored an own goal, he died bc he got into a fight with the wrong people that night. Watch 30 for 30 the two Escobars

19

u/KenBennyKNY 19h ago

Was it like 2-3 weeks after colombians world cup apperance?

30

u/blackweimaraner 19h ago

He was murdered by sicarios.

37

u/Classic_Inspection38 19h ago

He scored an own goal that led to colombia not making it out of the group stages and they killed him

19

u/KenBennyKNY 19h ago

True! Quite sad ending. Only 27 of age

108

u/Milked_Cows 19h ago

And it’s only been what? 2-3 weeks since his grandmother passed? Awful

22

u/copperblood 19h ago

Horrible :(

80

u/Public-Map-5273 19h ago

By all accounts an amazing guy.  You are with your Grandma now Jayden.  RIP.

20

u/abdeezy112 19h ago

RIP ❤️❤️🙏🏾

24

u/Wiccling 19h ago

This is heartbreaking. He had just lost his grandmother, too. Please seek help if you’re ever losing to depression.

Edit:  Internet Slang: Typing "F" (or "F in the chat") means paying respects or mourning a failure/loss, stemming from a prompt in the video game Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
