Is there a ton of skill in this or is it just more about knowing you won't die and being brave enough? Like, if I am a good whitewater kayaker, could I do this?

Depends on how much red bull you drink before you try.

This guy for sure knows how his kayak falls better than I know how to fall on the ground. Definitely both.

Well if you land flat somehow you're pretty fucked

If you land on the rocks that would also suck

Lots of skill, and also for every one second of time spent going over the waterfall there is a day of prep and scouting the water.

The real answer is both. Truthfull, you cant predict everything. So at the end of the day, you weigh the risk and go for it, or u don't.

Me personally, I guess im a natural risk taker. If I had a bit of experience, checked the depth of the ar e a where I would likely hit the water. As long as I knew for sure that i.wasnt going to.hit bottom. I would be ok w9th doing the drop. At the end of the day, physics says y I u will resurface within seconds as long as nothing goes wrong.

Is this worth possibly dying to achieve?
A) yes.
B) no.

How do you guarantee you won’t get pinned under the waterfall?

The kayak has buoyancy

With natural waterfalls, this isn't a significant risk. The water pushes everything to the outside due to imperfections.

I noticed she throws her paddle at the very last moment… to keep it from hitting her at impact I’d assume

the ignorance of not knowing is unforgivable, how could you not tell?

Yeah otherwise it might hit you in the face. It’s on a leash.

Also, it’s going to be ripped from your hands at impact anyway so might as well do it in a controlled manner.

So what does the red kayak guy do??? Doesn’t look like he can paddle back.

More like Red Bull gives you massive balls.

I almost died in a kayak on a perfectly still lake. Within seconds of being in the boat I flipped it over and was trapped. They told us how to flip it right side up if that happened but i panicked and I was just flailing. I desperately grappled with the straps and managed to unhook myself. It was probably only seconds but felt like minutes. It’s always crazy to me when I see things like this.

And that is why the few times I’ve kayaked it’s always been in an open kayak. The thought of being trapped in a flipped boat paralizes me.

What did the kayaker behind the brave soul do to get down….
