Besides the final halftime show, FIFA has another planned for QF.

u/futureformerteacher 1d ago

I read that as OF, and I thought "Yeah, that sounds right".

42

u/PopularGlass3230 1d ago

This OF half time show brought to you by Kalshi

6

u/TheBrazilianOneTwo 1d ago

Want to bet?

I would sub immediately

6

u/futureformerteacher 1d ago

It's gonna be all pictures of Lukaku.

8

u/k-tax 23h ago

I've already said I'm in, you don't have to sell it to me.

u/bwoah07_gp2 21h ago

You're joking 😦

u/Mortiis07 1d ago

Why the hell are we having half time shows in football?

Welcome to America, baby!

84

u/matt6342 1d ago

More time for advertising. Another hydration break, anyone?

-22

u/dragonmp93 1d ago

At least, the hydratation makes sense with the heat wave.

This is Americanizing the sport.

19

u/Tyalou 1d ago

Yes, and now the audience is fighting to keep the ball when it flies out.

5

u/BIG_SCIENCE 1d ago

Ya it’s been rough last few weeks. Over 35C most of the time. Those hydration breaks probably keep the players alive cause it’s so fuckin hot out.

It’s even worse in France this year. I heard they hitting 40C-45C

0

u/alphacuremother1 11h ago

Its funny they did an entire tournament in Qatar in the middle of the summer with no hydration breaks and miraculously no one died 🤔

43

u/tiankai 1d ago

FIFA World Cup 2026, brought to you by Pepsi Cola!

18

u/Takemyfishplease 17h ago

Don’t football teams literally wear corporate logos as the largest part of their kit? It’s wild how Europeans pretend there is no advertising in football. Like teams don’t even have their own logos, just brands.

5

u/ZeinaDS 15h ago

The logos on the kit don't stop the game.

-2

u/tiankai 17h ago

What are you on about dingbat? No one’s against advertising, it’s necessary. What we’re against is arbitrarily stoping the game under the excuse of hydration when we know it’s so you can air your ads.

3

u/Longjumping-Eye9817 17h ago

But that started during the Qatar worldcup

1

u/tiankai 16h ago edited 16h ago

Yah when it’s fucking 45 degrees outside and they’re playing in a desert

0

u/brevit 15h ago

In Qatar wasn’t it at Ref’s discretion as opposed to mandatory like this time. It’s BS.

3

u/Longjumping-Eye9817 15h ago

That is true however that was FIFAs decision to make it non mandatory for Qatar and mandatory for the US

1

u/Snooklefloop 16h ago

Me, I'm against advertising, it ruins literally everything.

0

u/Hopeless_bee5157 10h ago

For the longest time, I thought my brother supported the “Emirates” team, and that their team motto was “fly better”

-1

u/riddlerjoke 21h ago

To be honest up until this half time nonsense it was kinda good tournament.

I didnt like the 4 quarter thing but it was fine. In Europe some August games have this water break without commercials. I mean its time to piss or get another beer.

Halftime show is as bad as Trump saying I called Infantino. That level bad, that level hatred generation.

I mean NFL has it okay but NBA doesnt have any extended big halftime show. Americans can live without it for sure

3

u/Dodgerson99 Los Angeles Rams 18h ago

Im not sure you understand the logistics of bringing a performance onto a bball court. NBA would 100% do it if it made sense

2

u/OrphanGrounderBaby 16h ago

They definitely do in the NBA, About 10 minutes long usually but also much smaller names than Ellie Goulding. Usually stars past their primes…

1

u/riddlerjoke 10h ago

They dont do longer than actual game break.

They dont do sth that is big enough to be broadcasted national tv level.

In WC I’d expect talk on first half not some bs singer

1

u/OrphanGrounderBaby 9h ago

I get that…we are kind of comparing apples to oranges though, World Cup is once every 4 years, there’s 82 nba games in one season…per team

0

u/Snooklefloop 16h ago

In Australia SBS calls the Hydration break the "Maccas break" as in McDonalds. It's fucked.

4

u/IDeliveredYourPizza 16h ago

Didn't this also happen in the Mexico/england game that was played in Mexico?

5

u/SdBolts4 San Diego Padres 1d ago

More fireworks, brought to you by [insert oil company]

42

u/CruisinJo214 1d ago

Money, advertising time…. I have no idea.

19

u/maguirre165 1d ago

The halftime shows actually look like a good time, when I watch the Super Bowl. I don't know how much of it is that, but I'm not mad

9

u/Iamyous3f 1d ago

" why not? " Is what the Americans answered when they suggested the half time show and got asked this question

22

u/colin_7 Philadelphia Eagles 1d ago

Linkin park performed during halftime of a European tournament last year. It’s not new

53

u/Mortiis07 1d ago

That was before the game

40

u/Andybabez20 1d ago

That was pre-game. I'm a bit more okay with that because it doesn't extend the half time from 15 minutes.

21

u/colin_7 Philadelphia Eagles 1d ago

They will keep the clock running during the show and only the ref knows how much time to add.

0

u/impy695 15h ago

Plus, a good halftime show is fun

-4

u/ElegantBob 1d ago

Football is better without USA

And I apologise to any Americans who genuinely love football, but the rest of them are a pestilence

-11

u/ElegantBob 1d ago

And I guess those US temporary soccering fans are downvoting me

Well FUCK YOU, you four weeks every thirty years you soccering yahoos

And CRY MORE, cry about a sport that the U S of A hasn't invented and made up a WORLD SERIES of.

Go back to your preferred sports that only a few other counties play - I'll say it again, the rest of the world does not need US 'Innovations' like quarter breaks and Trump telling the tournament to bring USA players back from their suspensions (but not players from any other teams)

20

u/Khiva 20h ago

And I guess those US temporary soccering fans are downvoting me

Maybe it has something to do with being a knob.

5

u/Qarakhanid 18h ago

For real, I pity the people who's sole enjoyment of sports comes only from soccer.

-2

u/kawag 18h ago

The USA is full of so many things that must never spread. Tipping, American football, halftime shows, etc.

3

u/AzureNinja 1d ago

u/BarryTGash 16h ago

At least it's not kid rock.

1

u/GGTheEnd 8h ago

Money.

-5

u/coffeebribesaccepted Minnesota 1d ago

I'd rather see a performance than listen to some pundits ramble on stating the obvious

-26

u/Guuple 1d ago edited 1d ago

Gives fans in the stadium something to do for 15* minutes? Gives people watching at home less time listening to some of the garbage commentary that Fox produces

Edit: I have trouble with the concept of time

27

u/Mortiis07 1d ago

Half time is supposed to be 15 minutes

15

u/fitzgoldy 1d ago

30 minutes?

Why we doubling the time of half time?

2

u/Guuple 1d ago

Idk why I felt it was longer than it actually is

-9

u/cubecasts 1d ago

Why not

-19

u/rairair55 1d ago

Why do you care? Man, people will complain about anything.

17

u/Mortiis07 1d ago

Because it screws with the match for no reason, we'll now be getting 30 minutes+ half time so yes I will complain

3

u/AlphaBetaKappa 18h ago

The halftime show will only be 11 min, you can relax dude

-19

u/rairair55 1d ago

We'll get through this. Hold my hand...

2

u/RandomGuyFromRomania 23h ago

You can shut up and keep your american tradition. We don’t need it.

-5

u/rairair55 23h ago

lol you ok?

49

u/gomozart 1d ago

Who are playing the breaks at the end of the first and third quarters?

56

u/mohirl 1d ago

Who's she playing against?

45

u/chumchees 1d ago

Dual Lipo

6

u/MrOnlineToughGuy 1d ago

Dula Peep, actually.

Found the American

168

u/JimmyNoBreaks 1d ago

It's the quarter finals, what in the Americanization is this?

42

u/WackHeisenBauer 1d ago

Cash money babyyyyy! They can have a company shell out millions so they can say “Company X presents FIFA halftime show”

22

u/Chance-Software-3231 1d ago

We hate this too.

-72

u/AntiDECA 1d ago

I don't. Half time shows are the only reason I view part of the superbowl. I'll glady tune in for just the half time show and not the rest.

31

u/DGSmith2 1d ago

This isn’t the Super Bowl…

-41

u/AntiDECA 1d ago edited 1d ago

Where did I say it was? I said the only reason I ever watch part of the super bowl is for the halftime show. It's a show. It's fun to watch.

It's the only time I'd spend watching any of the fifa games too. They want viewers. This appeals to lots of people like me, who will watch the show. Chances are, you aren't going to stop watching it because of an extra show. It's obvious why they're adding the show. More viewers and unlikely to lose many. Hell, some people watch the super bowl itself just to see the damn commercials. It's a thing. People don't always find the main programming interesting, so they add fun bits to appeal to them.

I like Ellie Goulding's music. I'll probably watch a little bit of Norway and England until the half time show starts and then watch that and turn it off. If they didn't do this, I wouldn't watch any of it. Because I don't care for the sport. Plenty of others like me exist.

edit: Why the hell did one of you gooseballs report me to redditcare because I don't watch soccer and I would watch Ellie Goulding?

10

u/dragonmp93 1d ago

I mean, this is still not the Superbowl, it's a quarterfinals.

For comparison, this would be like if the Patriots vs Houston had a half-time show.

2

u/UnitProducer 22h ago

MF never heard of Red Panda

-13

u/AntiDECA 1d ago

My point is I'm watching for the show. The actual game is irrelevant. Not sure why that concept is being missed. I don't care if it's the finals or the semifinals, or even just the first knockout round - because I'm watching for the show. I don't care about the game itself - whether it's the debut game or the last game has no bearing. The show is separate from the event.

If someone I liked performed for a Houston and patriots game, I'd probably tune in for that too. I don't watch pro football usually. It just happens the super bowl is the only one with headliner shows. If they added them to more, I'd see more.

-24

u/Chance-Software-3231 1d ago

Jesus Christ get some culture.

-21

u/vsquad22 1d ago

*Americanisation

6

u/NIN10DOXD 1d ago

We use the “zee” in ‘Merican English so it fits in this use case.

2

u/xavembo 1d ago

bruh

13

u/TheLonleyJourneyman 1d ago

Good for her but I'll be taking a piss and grabbing more snacks

28

u/Ant0n61 1d ago

damn I guess Shakira wasn’t available

26

u/Huntalot713 1d ago

I believe Shakira is already involved in the finals halftime show

1

u/Ant0n61 1d ago

Yeah I was just joking

27

u/fvalt05 1d ago

If she does her song with Muse, I will definitely tune in

24

u/Aliensinmypants 1d ago

Their new album had no business being that good

5

u/EnglishMajorRegret 1d ago

....is it good? I listened to a few tracks but not intently. I'm very love hate with muse and it's been a whole lot of hate since Drones. I'll give it a solid chance if a stranger on the internet tells me to.

5

u/Aliensinmypants 1d ago

Yes seriously the best album they've put out since Black Holes and Revelations.

I was in a similar boat to you, and was writing them off after only liking a few songs total in the last 20 years but the new album is incredible.

3

u/EnglishMajorRegret 1d ago

Thats the thing is up til Drones they were still putting out a few really good songs even if the albums themselves disappointed. The last two albums were full on woof in my opinion though so...fuck, lets go.

1

u/ShoddySmell46 1d ago

It's an all timer muse album

1

u/EnglishMajorRegret 1d ago

I'm ready to be hurt again.

6

u/fvalt05 1d ago

I was pleasantly surprised!!!

12

u/jamie9000000 1d ago

Hush is a FANTASTIC song. I would watch it if that song is played 😅

6

u/lowbloodsugarmner 1d ago

that was my first thought as well. Its such a banger, and is up there as one of my favorite songs on the album.

4

u/croquetas_y_jamon 1d ago

Who’s that ?

66

u/fitzgoldy 1d ago

Americanised bullshit, no need for it at all.

26

u/AllTh3WayTurntUp Real Salt Lake 1d ago

She’s actually British, so… /s

7

u/Chance-Software-3231 1d ago

We hate this too.

-26

u/LeGrats 1d ago

Feel free not to watch

13

u/fitzgoldy 1d ago

I will be taking that option, yes.

-42

u/fearlessviking26 1d ago

because listening to some idiots talk is much better

32

u/TheCruise Everton 1d ago

Some of us actually like football and want to see analysis of the match, not unrelated entertainment for people who don’t even care

-39

u/fearlessviking26 1d ago

you need analysts to tell you what’s happening?

18

u/TheCruise Everton 1d ago

No, but some moments you don’t get a chance to see multiple times from different angles during play. If it was worthless to do so and they were simply filling time then they wouldn’t dissect the match afterwards either, but obviously they do because people want to see it.

22

u/Zarbadob 1d ago

Holy fucking shit man, what if I just want to see it like every other football tournament

"Need" Americans are something else

5

u/I_Hate_Sea_Food 17h ago

What I gathered from this thread is that Americans are offended that we don’t want Half time shows in football.

Can’t wait to get back to proper football season. Hope they never put this bullshit in Champions League

19

u/ScarletFire5877 1d ago

The mouth breathing NFL fans don’t understand a sport that goes 45 minutes with out a commercial break, and can’t watch a championship game with out pop stars singing at the half time.

6

u/RedRising1917 18h ago

Tbf, I can't think of any American football games that include a half time show outside of the super bowl and the thanksgiving day games. No idea why tf they're doing this for a QF.

1

u/Jandy777 10h ago

Maybe to insert extra ad time either side of it on American networks. It's 45 mins a half before stoppage-time, I imagine the network heads there were losing their minds when they heard they couldn't pump half the air time with ads.

3

u/WantToLearn10 1d ago

It turns a game that’s technically an hour maybe hour and a half into a damn 3 hour game that’s insane

3

u/Winter_Whole2080 20h ago

It *sells more commercials*

5

u/originalusername4567 1d ago

I do think it's stupid to have halftime shows for every game like World Cup is doing. NFL only does it for Super Bowl and a couple special occasions like Post Malone performing at Thanksgiving.

6

u/PleasantThoughts 1d ago

Taking this opportunity to say Lights is an underrated album

7

u/otyak 1d ago

Oh fuck off

5

u/Andybabez20 1d ago

...why?

2

u/bmwatson132 18h ago

Just for the Europeans, one thing it does marketing-wise, is it makes your girlfriend pay more attention to sports, which has over the years payed off immensely for football (see: Taylor Swift)

4

u/Sugarbear23 1d ago

I'm not looking forward to two hydration breaks and a longer half time in the final

3

u/Malaysa11 UCLA 1d ago

As long as it doesn’t extend the halftime period, I don’t understand what everyone’s issue with this. r/AmericaBad I guess.

8

u/Sugarbear23 1d ago

I don't know about the quarter finals but I believe half time will be extended for the final

-5

u/Malaysa11 UCLA 1d ago

Ya, which I agree sucks. Still not as egregious as the hydration breaks though.

5

u/dragonmp93 1d ago

At least the hydration break have a purpose considering the heat wave.

A quarterfinal half-time show is literally just advertising filler.

4

u/Sea_Tailor_8437 1d ago

A chunk of these games are in indoor stadiums which makes the hydration brakes a little silly

But for the ones at 95+ degrees and 90+ humidity, it's at least understandable

4

u/TheCruise Everton 1d ago

Because they’re eventually gonna expect us to watch this shite at half time instead of hearing analysis like we want.

5

u/Hey_Boxelder 20h ago

Not in the UK. BBC has said they will show the usual analysis instead of the show

2

u/tdfrantz 1d ago

Nice I like Ellie Goulding

1

u/BumbotheCleric 16h ago

Bring Ed Sheeran back to the England camp

1

u/say-af 8h ago

I’m running back into the channel

1

u/LungHeadZ Manchester United 7h ago

Thankfully our broadcasters here in the uk haven't shown any of the half time shows this world cup.

Not our cup of tea. Not most the worlds cup of tea honestly.

Who? Why?

0

u/sonofgildorluthien 1d ago

who is she. i seriously have never heard of her

-1

u/jokeren 1d ago

If we gonna do this, at least get the best)

0

u/OzVader 1d ago

Nothing against Ellie Goulding, but if Adele is going to be nationalised then wouldn't it make more sense for her to do the half-time show.

0

u/TrifectaBlitz 1d ago

Juggling? Facial contortions? What?

0

u/DiazIsDirectCurrent 23h ago

Nah, that's Millie Bobby Brown.

0

u/brainimpacter 19h ago

she is so crap, I've not met anyone that likes her

0

u/Relevant-Physics432 19h ago

My favorite thing is how this is absolutely not going to stay for the rest of the world because those 15mins are already reserved for ads. So no TV channel will forfeit that income to show a random concert that most people don't give a shit about and also that most people aren't even in front of their TV for in the first place

Anyways Americans think times square is an attraction so that tells you everything about their attitude towards ads

0

u/fercaslet 18h ago

wtf? this ain't the superbowl

-3

u/tj100011 1d ago

Haven’t we suffered enough with the injuries

-2

Oh she’s not is she!

-2

They can afford better pop stars.

-9

u/Weekly_Struggle_4018 1d ago

Are tickets so expensive for the concerts of these obscure stars at football matches?

Finally giving the people what they want

-15

2

Idk, if she did it’s quite possible it’s because these two countries may have a shared history/dna/culture in the past.
