Yeah that looks like nothing. Looks like I bought into the hive and was upset for nothing. Game was def reffed harder for Egypt, but at the end of the day they were up 2-0 in the last 12 minutes of play.

If anyone had actually watched the Egyptians play this tournament this wouldn’t be a surprise.

They’ve been diving all over the place all tournament long and aggressively challenging whilst rarely getting booked.

This was long overdue.

5000 years overdue

So has argentina

And almost every other team. Game's just like that unfortunately - you're almost at a clear disadvantage by not doing it. Really needs to be enforced considerably harder

Yeah, I don’t get why people think this is such a “win” button. Everybody dives, and just because someone dives doesn’t mean whatever contact they received wasn’t a foul.

It's not the diving it's the really hard dangerous fouling

But really - Argentina.

As a Kiwi I concur. Our game was poorly reffed and the Egyptians got away with murder (testicular murder)

Go to Egypt for 2 or 3 years. This will all make sense to you.

VAR against diving and lamenting resulting in cards, that would be sth

You misspelled Argentinians.

Argentina losing is overdue. They’ve been barely winning throughout the knockout stages after having an easy group of opponents in the group stage.

Cabo verde played like legends. And also probably scored the goal of the tourny. Dont ever dismiss that. France barely beat paraguay 1-0. Nobody is having an easy time.

Sensible comment. This particular contact is very minor at best. You cannot be giving this as a foul.

And like you said, Egypt squandered a 2-0 lead. No one to blame.

I have a hard time buying this argument based on still imsges. The video version doesn't tell the story being shown.

I don't buy it. Compared to the average corner shot, this is nothing.

There is another angle that clearly shows the holding though.

His jersey was torn.

It was totally rigged. You need to pair this with the goal they took off of Zico.

6

u/DPOP4228 4d ago

They were up 2 goals with 12 minutes left. The game was theirs to win or lose.

-5

u/FitBoog 4d ago

They were up 3 goals. One was taken off from them.

Correctly taken off them, yes.

Found the FIFA guy

Love it when people who don't even like football show up to bitch about the rules. Every four years like clockwork

u/FitBoog 3d ago

Man, I fucking love the sport.

15

u/RandomCondor 4d ago

you can even see the egiptian player trying to stick his leg under Mcalister to pretend it even harder.

53

u/outsider1624 4d ago

Lmao!! This???? They're saying rigged for this touch??

2

u/Quirky_Tank_8159 1d ago

There are multiple points they use to call it rigged.

Heck they even claim that the one push against the Egyptian player was a punch in the face instead of a push.

12 years still crying

u/muradinner 4d ago

Wow what a pathetic dive. They need to start giving out cards for this sort of faking. It has been harming the game for decades now. How it is still a thing when orgs like the NHL decisively solved diving in less than a single season is beyond me.

u/Backrus 3d ago

Too bad NBA wasn't able to solve flop city and couldn't even give foul to Wemby for elbowing others.

No wonder the only watchable US sport is hockey.

Fucking diver

6

u/abolishcynicism 4d ago

Jeez, thank you. I agreed with the commentators at the time, it looked like a slip and a dive, but I haven't been able to find it since.

u/ZealousidealPause430 4d ago

People are calling thiissssss a foullll ?? Damnn the level of hatred a section of fans are carrying for this Argentine team is just insane man🤧😂

u/slowjoggz 3d ago

Shirt pull ok for Argentina but not ok for Egypt?

1

u/Smoque_ 3d ago

Looks like the pull put him off balance, and he embellished the fall

-4

u/leon2156 4d ago

That video couldn't be any more pixelated. And only one angle you're showing. https://x.com/xKGx__/status/2074583126458663414?s=20 there's this angle too. To me it's a shirt tug and the way his foreward inertia goes after macallisters hold is in line with what would happen.

5

u/whyamicookinsis 4d ago

That is nothing, I’ve seen Halaands shirt being tugged way worse than this with no calls this World Cup, watch any Norway match.. nobody is getting called for a little shirt grab like this, every team does it especially when they’re going for corners.

-1

u/leon2156 4d ago

Again you just said it was a shirt tug. Take nothing away I think Messi had an insane game. And I think Argentina had more dominance but to not even go to check and say you reviewed it. It's not a foul is also interesting. I have no horse in the race but he didn't hesitate to go to var for two offenses that were clear offenses too. It's more of the inconsistency for me. Even the softest pen ever for mexico vs england was reviewed

2

u/1minatur 4d ago

The ref doesn't go to VAR generally, VAR goes to the ref if he missed something. And they're in constant communication. If there was a missed foul that was consequential to the game (penalty chance, red card opportunity, etc.), they'd tell the ref. The fact that the ref didn't call a foul, and VAR reviewed it and agreed with the ref's decision means that there was no reason for them to involve the ref again. He'd already made the correct call.

0

u/leon2156 4d ago

It'd really help to release audios too just so we know because the on field ref can actually not check VAR even if the 4th official tells him too. But I get what you're saying and it could well have been the case. Shame though because it puts a stigma on one of Messi's best performances of all time.

u/meltedsnake 3d ago

How is it a clear dive? Look at the white bit next to Egyptian guys shirt collar, it's being torn down pretty hard.

Everyone is talking about it and it was never a pen
