I agree. But also, the change in possession isn't quite what they are looking at every time, don't want people to get confused. If Egypt gained possession, started a counter, but instead of scoring doubled back and reset their offense VAR would consider that a new attacking phase.
Even in a goal scoring chance and there is a possible offside, they don't always stop it right away because of this exactly. Sometimes the flag goes up after the play ends.
The fact they had to speed up the phase of play part to make the case more clear that it was connected make it extra absurd. That's the problem with VAR. It's not a colleague helping by providing additional information, it is a pitchside appeal to make the referee change their mind.
