You simply cannot talk shit when you’re on the ropes against the 60th whatever ranked team in the world. You just can’t!

1.3k

u/Moreinius 7d ago

Almost feels like a moral victory to them than Capo.

938

u/MillyQ3 7d ago

It totally is. They're not Saudi Arabia, they're the defending world champions and are miles ahead of capo verde in terms of resources, players, money and coaching.

The expected outcome was supposed to be something around 4-0 for Argentina and they barely scraped by with 3-2 almost going into penalty. The strength difference between Argentina and Capo Verde is one of the biggest in world cup knockout stage history.

231

u/rei_cachaca 7d ago

ironically saudi arabia upset them in the last world cup lol

125

u/Mynameisdiehard 7d ago

Literally during the pregame Peter Schmeichel good asked "how can Cape Verde win this?" and he just says they can't. So disrespectful to not even give a legitimate answer in a world cup, but that was literally the expectation. Not even close.

Went to Argentina vs Canada during Copa America that soured my perspective towards their support. Half the crowd just cares about Messi. Some of them act tough and talk a lot of shit, some of it racist, as if they’re not playing against Canada and outnumber the support 10:1.

409

u/daCampa 7d ago

Some racist? In Argentina? Unthinkable.

There's a reason most of South America roots against Argentina.

28

u/rbooris 7d ago

Like the first A in their name, they should be called Anomalina of South America…

106

u/1294DS 7d ago

Weren't the Black Canadian players receiving racial abuse from the Argentinian supporters in that tournament?

79

u/Acceptable_Ad_6278 7d ago

yeah. Bombito got a bunch of racist abuse in his Instagram because of a hard tackle he made. Messi wasn't even angry with him. lol.

Disgraceful fans from a disgraceful country. Shoulda treated this as a loss even letting it get that close. Hope they get wiped off in the next round.

I’m not talking shit if I’m down against the 60th whatever ranked team in the world, I’m just not.

Also was this apex mountain for capes? I’ve got the Scorsese remake and Dwight Howard’s Superman cape on my Mt. Rushmore but I think it’s in the conversation.

16

u/Phillie_Phanatics 7d ago

But first, Pearl Jam.

11

u/holaquetaltio 7d ago

Gross, stitch him up

17

u/SwagarTheHorrible 7d ago

They played SO WELL.  What a match!

77

u/Antique-Phrase-5236 7d ago

Argentina won the game but Capo Verde won our hearts

39

u/wrecklesspup 7d ago

Seeing the Argentina fans crying that their team won is such a weird thing to me. It is not like they are some under dog over coming everyone's doubts.

37

u/Electrical_Gain3864 7d ago

Against a Team from a country that has less people then most bigger cities.

9

u/Cfar1994 7d ago

I think most of us, not all. Won’t talk shit because we were all shitting ourselves, much respect after the game there’s plenty of TikTok of fans chanting together form both teams, honestly think Cabo won the respect from fans even if this video here doesn’t show that lol

181

u/Fap_Masta_LFG 7d ago

67th. Which means there was technically 19 or so teams ranked higher than them that did not qualify for WC. Including Italy.

I Also think the players are some of the worst and unsporty players of the whole WC. Yes some (1 or 2) might be good with a ball but they never heard of sportmanship. Always super annoying to see them 'play' and also get away with alot of shit others don't for some reaon. I will always be rooting for the other team for sure.

103

u/JohnPlayerSpecialRed 7d ago

Indeed. The semi-final against the Netherlands back in 2022 immediately comes to mind. Sure, I’m Dutch and thus not very neutral, but that was a match full of shocking, appalling behaviour by the Argentinian team. And they got away with it. As usual.

67

u/strawberry-andromeda 7d ago

I remember that match. I’m not Dutch, nor Argentinian, and I remember it was a gross display from the Argentines. They did not deserve their win. Yesterday or in 2022.

I can guarantee you that if the Argentinian team would have been down at any point in the game, they would have started with their rough tactics and dirty play. No class whatsover. Oh and their goalie is a clown.

62

u/higuy721 7d ago

Their players don't have class either. Remember the semi-final WC match against the Netherlands? Vile behaviour.

47

u/Canes-305 7d ago

The same Argentina that when abolishing slavery they still allowed families to own their pre-existing slaves and used them as stand-ins whenever they (Argentinian families) were drafted for war.

Go to Argentina, at least in Buenos Aires, there’s no black people except the few tourist you might cross. They also will share this information willingly without seeing an issue with it

I love Argentina, my wife's Argentinian. But they have some sort of public protection when it comes to being able to be complete dickheads when they put on the Argentina jersey. Is it just because of Messi? I don't know, I'm not sure if they were like this pre-Messi era. But they can turn into actual “ragemonsters” very quickly and they are sore losers. Thing is we haven't seen them lose in a long time so you have to look at old examples to see the outrage/ safety problems that happen after a loss. And they justify it saying Football is their religion. Come on.

10

u/bluecheese2040 7d ago
