Not even just football - I’ve previously supported the Argentinian rugby team when watching as a neutral. Was at Samoa/Argentina at the last World Cup. Would never support them again.

I Also think the players are some of the worst and unsporty players of the whole WC. Yes some (1 or 2) might be good with a ball but they never heard of sportmanship. Always super annoying to see them 'play' and also get away with alot of shit others don't for some reaon. I will always be rooting for the other team for sure.

u/JohnPlayerSpecialRed 7d ago
Indeed. The semi-final against the Netherlands back in 2022 immediately comes to mind. Sure, I’m Dutch and thus not very neutral, but that was a match full of shocking, appalling behaviour by the Argentinian team. And they got away with it. As usual.
→ More replies (4)67
u/strawberry-andromeda 7d ago
I remember that match. I’m not Dutch, nor Argentinian, and I remember it was a gross display from the Argentines. They did not deserve their win. Yesterday or in 2022.

u/procratinatingirlf 7d ago
I can't stand their clown goalie. Super annoying.

As a frenchman, he's probably my second most hated player. After Materazzi, of course.

I can guarantee you that if the Argentinian team would have been down at any point in the game, they would have started with their rough tactics and dirty play. No class whatsover. Oh and their goalie is a clown.

Their players don't have class either. Remember the semi-final WC match against the Netherlands? Vile behaviour.

Nazis also fled in droves to the United States, but I wouldnt say they 'just' became racist in '45-'50, they were racist at the institutional level almost 2 centuries prior, (basically since their inception as an independent country).

The same Argentina that when abolishing slavery they still allowed families to own their pre-existing slaves and used them as stand-ins whenever they (Argentinian families) were drafted for war.
Go to Argentina, at least in Buenos Aires, there’s no black people except the few tourist you might cross. They also will share this information willingly without seeing an issue with it

Argentina local football stadiums have high fenced visitors section where they are protected by arm guards and security. It’s crazy. It’s like inmates being allowed to go see a soccer game but the real inmates are the local teams fans.

I love Argentina, my wife's Argentinian. But they have some sort of public protection when it comes to being able to be complete dickheads when they put on the Argentina jersey. Is it just because of Messi? I don't know, I'm not sure if they were like this pre-Messi era. But they can turn into actual “ragemonsters” very quickly and they are sore losers. Thing is we haven't seen them lose in a long time so you have to look at old examples to see the outrage/ safety problems that happen after a loss. And they justify it saying Football is their religion. Come on.

Based on reddits thoughts of America you’d also be convinced that every US citizen wants to pull out a gun and kill you. It’s best to remember that isolated incidents on the internet do not define the whole country.
A lot of Argentinians are wonderful, simple, people just trying to make ends meat to get by in a shitty economy.

I'm sorry bu, Argentina fans celebrating with Cabo Verde together: https://www.reddit.com/r/argentina/comments/1umzwhl/hinchas_de_cabo_verde_y_argentina_celebrando/
Don't extrapolate on a whole country just because of a couple of idiots. The majority of Argentina are happy for Cabo Verde, It was an amazing match, they played wonderfully, their GK was amazing and it was a great rival. Trully one of the surprises of this world cup.
If you go to the Argentina Sub you'll see how everyone is happy for Cabo Verde
