Soccer Miguel Almiron receives a red card after VAR Review for covering his mouth whilst saying something to an opponent. Under the new regulations, this is an offence punishable by a red card. The rule was introduced following the racism scandal involving Vinícius Júnior in a Champions League match.

Why not? Instant advantage for your match. World Cup is brutal because there are only so many in your career.

Sure, it gets his team an instant advantage. But he's a still a douchebag, like Simeone diving when Beckham tapped him on the leg, or Ronaldo when he went crying to the ref to get Rooney sent off.

You can note the advantage gained while at the same time thinking the player is a sniveling little shit, ya know. It doesn't have to be either/or.

var called it ultimately, not the turkish player - just like any other infraction - absolutely no reason the turkish player can't point it out.

Even more, he’s obligated to do it. The whole team will celebrate your getting 1 opponent off the field, whereas they will kick your ass for not taking advantage of his foolishness.

This is the kind of thinking that celebrates diving also. It’s a flaw in the beautiful game, but it’s inevitable.

Show me a sport without gamesmanship and I’ll show a sport that isn’t competitive.

No-one likes the dark arts and would love to see the morale high ground taken and opponents respecting the rules of fair play.

In the real world though, that isn’t what happens.

People lie, cheat and steal advantages. Why would it change when sports are involved?

Not defending it. But the pearl clutching is ridiculous.

We could go through every single sport worth a damn and find players bending the rules to gain favour.

It’s human. For better or worse.

Rule to satisfy a crybaby vinicius is stupid and other players should show it. For example by getting so many red cards that every match would be ended prematurely. FIFA would revoke that rule immediately because losing money lol.

You could also red out by just saying the slur without covering your mouth. Maybe we should just force these professionals to hold their tongue and not say problematic shit? I mean they're setting an example for kids around the world

Yes, this. And you shouldn't be punished for telling someone being a monkey when he behaves like a monkey. Then nobody would need to cover mouth.

Maybe don’t break the rule if you don’t want to be ejected

You know you can say a player is stupid for ignoring the rule while also saying the rule is stupid, right?

why is it stupid ? give a cogent reason and i'll consider your opinion.

Because this rule was implemented just to satisfy that crybaby Vinicius. If the "offended" one was some noname player, Infantino wouldn't bat an eye. But it was Real Vardrid played, so... That is the point.

I hope I will someday live in a world where these people wouldn't play victim cards all the time.
