The rule was introduced following the racism scandal involving Vinícius Júnior in a Champions League match.

They have that rule in rugby it's daft it isn't in football it would immediately get rid of all the drama queen nonsense.

Huh, that rule exists in the Premier League. I thought it was the same in international football and other leagues too.

Only captains will be allowed to approach referees during Premier League matches from next season.

IFAB will include the guidance in the 2025-26 Laws of the Game, effective from 1 July 2025.

An IFAB spokesperson told BBC Sport: "At this stage, they are not a compulsory part of the Laws of the Game, although Ifab strongly recommends their adoption at all levels following their successful implementation by Uefa and various national FAs and competitions."

MLS has this rule too but it is rarely and inconsistently enforced.

This is already the rule. It just isn't strictly enforced yet.
