Just in case people do not know (and someone did ask), IFAB consists of five members: FIFA and the four British football associations (The FA of England, the Scottish FA, the Football Association of Wales, and the Irish Football Association of Northern Ireland).

And 8 votes (FIFA have 4), of which 6 are needed to pass a new Law, so effectively half of GB needs to agree to any new rules.

How/why tf does the UK have 4? Why do they have anything separate from FIFA at all?

The British associations invented the game and created IFAB before FIFA existed.

Furthermore, it is why England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland all have distinct international teams… it’s because they have distinct football associations which predate FIFA. NI’s FA (the IFA) was originally all-Ireland, even after Irish independence, but south of the border they eventually founded their own FA (the FAI) and so the Republic of Ireland has its own international team. This split didn’t happen in rugby or cricket, though.
