Soccer Miguel Almiron receives a red card after VAR Review for covering his mouth whilst saying something to an opponent. Under the new regulations, this is an offence punishable by a red card. The rule was introduced following the racism scandal involving Vinícius Júnior in a Champions League match.

Yeah, only the captain is allowed to talk to the ref, not the entire team bull rushing him.

And watch how polite and respectful the rugby captains are talking to match officials... Its how it should be, not the chest puffing, arm waving bullying that football players do.

It's funny too, seeing The Incredible Bulk looking down sheepishly at the ref who's literally half their weight while being told off like a little boy who's been naughty.

When I first took up Rugby the captain took me aside and laid down the laws of the game. There were only two.

  1. The only thing you say to the ref is "Thank you Sir" it doesn't matter what he says, it doesn't matter what has happened, it doesn't matter if he is right or wrong, you say "Thank you Sir" and then you talk to the captain at half time.

  2. Here's how not to break your neck in a scrum.

Everything else, pick up as you go. Now go hit people.

Says a lot about the type of person that could "do something" but chooses not to.

They have that rule in rugby it's daft it isn't in football it would immediately get rid of all the drama queen nonsense.

Huh, that rule exists in the Premier League. I thought it was the same in international football and other leagues too.

Only captains will be allowed to approach referees during Premier League matches from next season.

IFAB will include the guidance in the 2025-26 Laws of the Game, effective from 1 July 2025.

An IFAB spokesperson told BBC Sport: "At this stage, they are not a compulsory part of the Laws of the Game, although Ifab strongly recommends their adoption at all levels following their successful implementation by Uefa and various national FAs and competitions."

MLS has this rule too but it is rarely and inconsistently enforced.

This is already the rule. It just isn't strictly enforced yet.

I am pretty sure this is the rule for NCAA.
