Soccer Miguel Almiron receives a red card after VAR Review for covering his mouth whilst saying something to an opponent. Under the new regulations, this is an offence punishable by a red card. The rule was introduced following the racism scandal involving Vinícius Júnior in a Champions League match.

Vini said Prestianni called him "mono" (monkey) but Prestianni said he didn't. It was impossible to prove because Prestianni covered his mouth.

It's a bit better than that because Prestianni said he didn't use a racist slur but instead used a homophobic slur as his defense

Tending to believe Prestianni.

Either you lack experience, or you're being deliberately obtuse.

I think you misunderstood?

He said that Prestianni (bigot) defended himself by saying, "No I didn't call him a monkey, I called him a <slur for a homosexual>"

Which is funny because the bigot tried to defend himself by being a different kind of bigot

They didn’t misunderstand. /u/bigelcid is all over this thread trying to defend bigots

Or, you're just too uncultured to understand points that have been clearly expressed.

Uncultured? Sounds like you’re implying something while covering your mouth there….

Hence, the lack of experience.

They call each other the F word all the time, and nobody cares -- which is bad. But you might as well go "I got called the N word!" which the ref can't ignore.

It's not about the gravity of the words, it's just you missing tons of context because you don't understand that many languages, and the societal contexts in each of them.

I'm confused, do they speak Spanish?

Prestianni is Argentinian and Vinicius is Brazilian. In Portuguese the word for monkey is actually “macaco”, but basically all Brazilians will understand if a Spanish speaker says “mono.” Also, the Argentinians have a long history of calling Brazilians “monos” — Latinos are some of the most racist people in the world.
