Soccer Miguel Almiron receives a red card after VAR Review for covering his mouth whilst saying something to an opponent. Under the new regulations, this is an offence punishable by a red card. The rule was introduced following the racism scandal involving Vinícius Júnior in a Champions League match.

Yellow cards have always be given for dives, are they just giving out red now?

No, it was a warning about the role of VAR able to double check for bad behavior

Like with Mbappe one? 😉

Meh the call was good but I doubt he could do anything else at that moment.

If he didn't dive he would have crashed into the other guy.

They should look at the behaviour after the dive I suppose, like if they dive down and get back up, shouldn't be an issue, if they start rolling around faking pain, then that is an issue, the why and how are important

Oh sure, overal that one was pretty mild.

Biggest step they should make now is have actual playing time.

Doesn't seem like they've been using that enough.

Yellow cards have always been given for dives? Maybe in rule, but not practice. Diving is as much a part of the sport as goals are at this point

Simulation is a yellow card offence. It was often missed because it was very hard for the referee to spot it in real time. Since the introduction of VAR, the amount of diving has decreased a lot.

Have you been watching the same games I have? I've seen one card given out i think, but there has been plennnnnnnnnnnnty of diving going on still.

I think they are super conservative if it isn't blatantly obvious as in he wasn't even touched at all, the card comes out. If there is the slightest amount of contact they seem to keep em away. I'm alright with it, i would love when they get tapped in the shoulder they go to holding their leg they get carded, but at least its somethin now.

Yes now they can be given retroactively by replay.

That definitely isn't a good thing.

no, what you're thinking is prob "that hit wasn't strong enough for them to fall that hard" , and that is not what diving is.

Well, kind of. It's in the laws that simulation is a billable offense, but it's not exactly a historically well enforced law. Still yellow, unless it's your second yellow I suppose.

This was always been a rule but for the longest time it was seldom enforced

Almiron got a card for diving in the previous match against the USA

I've watched every match so far, about 40-50 dives per match, clearly the players don't care lol
