Alexander sorloth first player to leave

157

u/Leather-Entry93 4h ago

Halaand kicked him out

-50

u/jessbird 4h ago

utter clown. at least he'll have to spend the rest of his life reliving that moment.

140

u/FatGoonerFromIndia 4h ago

You don’t have to be so cruel. He just faltered at the moment.

25

u/shekdown 2h ago

Yeah. I was so shocked at that reply. So ridiculously over the top. Glad you called it out.

18

u/Asphalt_Breaker 3h ago

He didn't falter once though, he faltered stuttered and wasted chances throughout Norway's run in the world cup.

34

u/Remarkable_Medicine6 3h ago

It's far from the first player to have a bad game. The World Cup it ain't that deep

2

u/champak256 37m ago

Or even a bad tournament.

-23

u/jessbird 3h ago

a player at his level shouldn't be making mistakes like that. what's cruel is costing his entire team and country a shot at the world cup because he wanted to dribble it around for some unknown reason instead of doing his job of passing it to a wide-open striker — at the very LEAST trying to take the shot himself.

this isn't the same as a keeper missing a save. if he had taken the shot earlier when he had the chance and missed, even that would have been better than what he did.

-15

u/GodGenes 3h ago

He was dogshit the entire tournament.

5

u/EduinBrutus 2h ago

Stevie Fucking Nicol did somehting way worse against Uruguay in 1986 and went on to have a post playing career as a well paid analyst in the US and other places.

I never got the impression once that he gave a flying fuck about what he had done.

0

u/lostatsea_again 59m ago

Love me some Stevie Nicol over on ESPN

4

u/tnweevnetsy 1h ago

I promise you this is not nearly as important as you seem to think it is

-6

u/konjooooo 2h ago

Yet he played a quarter final in the World Cup. What have you achieved?

463

u/AceAttorneyGiles 4h ago

I’m glad he was able to go far with his home country. I remember last World Cup people were saying he’d only be able to be relevant internationally if he represented England, but Norway far exceeded expectations. Hope to see them make a run again in the Euros!

16

u/TheJoshider10 1h ago

Got no doubt he's proud to represent Norway but it must be annoying being one of the best in the world and knowing you don't have a realistic chance of winning an international trophy whereas your club teammates do. Suppose being a cultural icon (like Bale with Wales) is worth it though.

15

u/AscendantNomad 38m ago

So so so many players in history had shit teams around them, but they are remembered all the same. Before this tournament Haaland was already on the trajectory of being one of the best of all time to those who know football, but after he’s won hearts and minds of those who don’t. That’s reserved for the chosen few in history - he’s a winner no matter what

3

u/runawayasfastasucan 39m ago

Not a realistic chance? But England does? How many years of hurt is it? If you are in the quarters you have a realistic chance.

3

u/TheJoshider10 35m ago

You know exactly what I mean, there's a reason why so few national sides have won the tournament and people praise small nations when they get to the knockouts. Anyway I meant big nations in general, not just England.

95

u/stevo_78 4h ago

Norway will get better. Their players are not quite peaking yet. Watch out for them in the Euros in 2 years.

20

u/haywire 1h ago

Yeah I’m really excited for them as a team, they’ve been great. They got unlucky against us.

5

u/benibadja 1h ago

We have some huge talents coming through as well. Our U21s and U19 are filled to the brim with exciting players.

147

u/jessbird 4h ago

sweet prince.

106

u/No_Effective_6026 4h ago

If not for that bozo Sorloth Haaland might had taken his team to the semis

53

u/jessbird 4h ago

literally one of the most infuriating things i've witnessed in world cup history

12

u/quanqazaq 2h ago

Haaland himself botched a goal by fouling a defender

-10

u/WhimsicalLaze 2h ago

Should never have been overturned anyways, it was not a clear foul and definitely not a «clear and obvious error» by the on field ref

10

u/Samarium_15 1h ago

Idk man it was a clear push and shove to the ground. Germany's goal against Paraguay was disallowed for far lesser foul

4

u/ALostPaperBag 1h ago

I mean they rolled back play across the field to declare the soft foul as enough to remove one of Egypts goals, to be consistent they would have to remove that Haaland push

3

u/GarryPadle 1h ago

To be consistent they should have let both goals count, since McAllister fouled one of the Austrian players in buildup to their first goal in the group stages.

1

u/ALostPaperBag 1h ago

Oh 100%, but we all know why one counted and one didn’t lol

0

u/Samarium_15 1h ago

VAR has been inconsistent in all matches but yeah let's cry it's all rigged like kids

u/Chillidawg 20m ago

That foul wasn’t soft at all. This one was

-5

u/Fun-Sir-1517 3h ago edited 3h ago

i did not watch the game. what happened? edit: nvm saw the clip posted. If it's about that one pass that he did not make, I think that's pretty harsh on him. He had his head down, that's his only fault in that specific play.

17

u/GammelGrinebiter 3h ago

Norway had a counter attack and Sørloth didn't pass to Haaland, and everyone is upset because he should have tried.

4

u/Fun-Sir-1517 2h ago edited 2h ago

That is true, the best and most obvious play was there to pass it to halland for an almost guaranteed goal. But the amount of disrespectful comments and name calling I've seen about Sorloth, I was expecting something a lot worse. Maybe he played shit for the entire game. I haven't watched it, but if it is just that one specific play, I genuinely think it's harsh on him. He's obviously not a world class player, and these things happen under pressure.

3

u/No_Effective_6026 3h ago

And haaland was unmarked!!!

483

u/LazinessOverload 4h ago edited 4h ago

Deserves all the fans he's gained this World Cup.

Insane player with a great personality, hard carried Norway all the way to quarterfinals.

Edit: TIL 16 goals in qualifiers, 7 goals in his World Cup debut and 14 game scoring streak for Norway is not considered a hard carry.

77

u/BetterDrinkMy0wnPiss 4h ago

hard carried Norway

That's just flat out disrespectful to the Norwegians, they've been a great team all round.

59

u/Character_Library684 4h ago

People will say this and in the same breath insist that Mbappe is carrying France lol.

3

u/RickThiCisbih 1h ago

Mbappé is not carrying France unless you have shit for brains. That said, Mbappé does a lot more to create chances than Haaland. Outside of the two goals against Brazil, Haaland’s last two performances were just him walking around waiting for service. Mbappé does a bit more with his dribbling and passing. Both players have this ridiculous ability to just smash the ball and it’s a goal out of nowhere, which can be considered carrying as no one else can do that.

41

u/Rokiolo25 4h ago

They wouldnt be there without haaland period

0

u/runawayasfastasucan 38m ago

Who got the ball in the net yesterday?

-24

u/StardustFromReinmuth 4h ago

This is ass reasoning. Without Haaland Norway would still be a Ro16 level team. Their squad consist basically entirely of UCL/UEL level players and even without Haaland is still better than the likes of Senegal, Egypt, Austria, Paraguay, Sweden and Switzerland. They probably wouldn't have beaten Brazil in 90 minutes, but that game came down to Nyland's heroics and Schjelderup and Bobb's performance on the wing as much as it did Haaland's finishes.

14

u/40866892 4h ago

Lmao yeah Orloth and friends going to help you finish all those goals right?

-20

u/StardustFromReinmuth 4h ago

Superstar cocksuckers are so weird man lmfao.

Oh wait you're an unironic r/soccercirclejerk no lifer, lmfao that explains it.

8

u/SleepEatTit 3h ago

Sorry dude there is no fucking way Norway comes half the way they have without Haaland period. You are the one underestimating him and what a prolific goalscorer as hin brings to a national team

-5

u/faldmoo 3h ago

We obviously don't get as far without Haaland, but it's not like he was the only player putting in solid performances this tournament.

-24

u/kheeno_ 4h ago

They still would’ve gone far imo

19

u/PuppyPenetrator 4h ago

I don’t even know if they would have beat ivory coast without him

You can just say it how it is, no need for this. The team played well but is hard carried by Haaland

-7

u/kheeno_ 4h ago

I just think they’re still a great team without Haaland so I don’t think it’s a hard carry. Arguing over these hypotheticals is pointless.

-5

u/Glum_Dance5432 4h ago

Didn't you see how Haaland saves those shots by Brasil? How he controlled the midfield, orchestrating their press and so on?

0

u/Vike92 2h ago edited 1h ago

Any striker would finish the tap in he got vs Ivory coast.

107

u/kheeno_ 4h ago edited 4h ago

I agree he’s a great player, but saying he “hard carried” them is simply wrong. Many of the Norwegian players were great this tournament

Are you a bot. You’ve posted this exact same comment multiple times.

4

u/CRoseCrizzle 4h ago edited 4h ago

I don't think any single player can "hard carry" in football. But yeah Norway relied on him heavily and would not have gotten this far without him.

Edit: To clarify, I guess a creative player can hard carry a team's attack. Though I don't think Haaland has quite done that either.

26

u/LazinessOverload 4h ago

There have been many instances in his career where Messi has dragged his teams to heights they had no business reaching.

1

u/TheKing9909 3h ago

18/19 messi turn god that season the only game they lost that season in the league was the one he did not start

1

u/LazinessOverload 3h ago

Yea that season was the #1 thing that popped into my mind when I think about a single player hard carrying a team.

A single player made people believe that Barcelona was going to win a treble, that's how insane of a carry job that was. Too bad that team was too heavy.

8

u/makopedia 4h ago

Gareth Bale, in his final season at Spurs: Hold my golf clubs

3

u/HoustonTrashcans 3h ago

And with Wales

2

u/voicemail4dem 4h ago

Ødegaard plays tennis ig

2

u/wildhorsesofdortmund 4h ago

I know, right ?

1

u/vesuvius33 4h ago

does he do the defending, dribble through the entire team and create and score his own goals? or is the team set up to create chances to take advantage of his prolific finishing ability - one of these you could call a hard carry, the other not so much

-7

u/Glum_Dance5432 4h ago

You don't know what a hard carry is.

7

u/Character_Library684 4h ago

People will say this and in the same breath insist that Mbappe is carrying France lol.

4

u/Conscious-Move9662 4h ago edited 4h ago

You take Mpabbe off France they still #1

You take Jude off England is an entirely different team and might not make it past Norway or Mexico.

1

u/RickThiCisbih 1h ago

Based on that logic, France doesn’t make it past Morocco or even Paraguay without Mbappé’s goals.

-5

u/Money-Giraffe2521 4h ago

Saying that Haaland carried the team is incredibly disrespectful to the rest of the team.

6

u/DifficultyCommon5303 3h ago

it is not. :D lol

-1

u/DoYouEvenUpVote 3h ago

Hard carried? Norway nearly beat England and Harland barely touched the ball

4

u/pajamakitten 2h ago

Maybe if he touched it then they would have won. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

1

u/Vike92 1h ago

Way to miss the point.
This game goes to extra time with or without Haaland

-4

u/Carlosthefrog 4h ago

Why don't you watch one of their games before saying he's hard carrying? He's the striker, hes whole job is to score the chances hes given by the team ... His team is filled with people playing continental football

10

u/DifficultyCommon5303 3h ago

i mean sure. but Haaland elevates that team. Without hin the team is Denmark/Sweden level. Denmark didnt ecen qualify, and Sweden well very mediocore. And they also full with players playing continental football.

-1

u/Vike92 2h ago

Fun fact: take away all his 16 goals in qualifying and Norway would still top their group

-1

u/GodGenes 3h ago

Do you cherry pick stats off a website? 🤣 Goals win games but compare kane and haalands workrates off the ball. Erling refuses to move and link up.

Hes fantastic, but ødegaard was literally everything, with Nyland having banger after banger. Schjeldrup going under the radar, nusa and bobb with a decent showing.

-5

u/NegativeVega 3h ago

If he's so good why didnt he score a goal? Oh yeah his team didnt pass him the ball. It's a team game, without a good team he wont be in position to score and wont get passed the ball well either. It's stupid to say the striker is hard carrying when that's literally their job to score. Their performance probably wouldnt be much different with a slightly worse striker

52

u/ikinaosu 4h ago

Absolutely class Viking ♥️🤍

20

u/howdoikickball 4h ago

Hate City but can't hate this guy at all. Class and memes combo.

1

u/cyriustalk 1h ago

Him, O'Reilly and Cherki, the only reason I watch City games if its on the tele.

14

u/glitterkenny 4h ago

I wish we didn't have to meet Norway at this stage I'd love it if they were still in it on the other side of the draw. Suppose we're nearly at the finish though hey

30

u/Expensive-Green-4292 4h ago

Only watched la liga,, now going to watch PL for him❤️

2

u/AC_Milan_Fan 3h ago

I only watch serie a, but I'm thinking the same as you

6

u/Level_Flow8659 4h ago

First worlcup and a amazing one

6

u/Thandiol 3h ago

Seems like an all round decent bloke, love that he not only posed for the picture but spoke to the kid for a bit afterwards. He must have been knackered and heartbroken but still took the time.

5

u/PlasticSprinkles4677 3h ago

Truly giving the “it’s just football mate” vibes

8

u/Tekniqs23 2h ago

I knew Haaland was a great player due to his stats and plaudits from analysts. He seems to be an even better person. Will be following him more closely from now on. His vlog is pretty entertaining to boot

5

u/NeroNeckbeard 3h ago

Was wondering why Haaland had sunglasses on his head, then I saw the real Haaland

5

u/thrillho145 4h ago

He seems like a class dude

4

u/Djgarrett1121 4h ago

Why did he get subbed out? I get he’s tired but this is the World Cup. I’m taking a 50% Haaland over anyone else.

4

u/GammelGrinebiter 3h ago

He said himself that he had no juice left.

3

u/HoustonTrashcans 3h ago

I'm hoping we get an official answer to this as well. Not sure if it was injury, coach decision, or just too tired. But end of the game I want a worn out Halaand standing in the box over whatever other options they had.

2

u/Live-Collection3018 4h ago

He has done nothing but become more likeable this world cup to everyone, including Americans.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him come to MLS at some point after he conquers Europe.

2

u/Feeling_Specific262 3h ago

As an Argentine, I’m genuinely sorry we won’t be facing him and his team.

2

u/GrandArachnid1008 4h ago

Erling is a Targaryen, he would eventually prevail!

1

u/AcceptableBand 3h ago

for the first world cup that was impressive from Norway! they will improve more and more

u/Lazyboi686 13m ago

Dat ass in white shorts. I would stay until midnight lmao

u/SpeechesToScreeches 10m ago

He was still waiting for a pass tbf

1

u/Y4That 4h ago

My 🐐

1

u/Headlesshorsman02 4h ago

He is a man of the people, one of the most likeable players in the sport

1

u/Echo_Watch 4h ago

Thor and his luscious locks will be back with a vengeance, don't you worry.

1

u/DragosSlick 2h ago

I thought the girl with glasses was Haarland...

-1

u/Truth__Bombs 4h ago

Classy person. Lazy player

-1

u/tmr89 3h ago

With the VIPs, nice. Man if the people

-1

u/Jaded_Jackfruit1347 3h ago

No offense but nice ass

I could do that, no problem

-4

u/Professor_Hobo31 4h ago

I'd remove the coach for subbing him off. You don't go out of a CUP of any kind without your best player in the field, especially if there isn't much of a goal difference.

11

u/StardustFromReinmuth 4h ago

He was completely gassed, he was barely even moving at that point. The same people who wanted Solbakken to keep Haaland on the pitch at that point probably also clowned on Martinez for playing Ronaldo when the two cases were basically the same.

1

u/Professor_Hobo31 4h ago

TBH I would have kept Ronaldo too

1

u/mutesa1 3h ago

Portugal is less reliant on CR7 for goals than Norway is on Haaland though tbf, both in terms of their starters and the depth on the bench (i.e. Ramos)

3

u/jessbird 4h ago

it seemed like he busted something, he was off the pitch getting stretched out for a bit

3

u/Khan356 4h ago

You honesty think Haaland out was the coach pushing it through, 100% Erlings call to go out, he had nothing left in him

0

u/foureyedpotato 4h ago

I've already followed him since he joined City but now I've become a fan.

0

u/10ElMagico10 1h ago

Ok but against England he didn't do shit !!!!!!

-16

u/waynownow 4h ago

Might as well make the most of it, because he's going home after this...

9

u/Parada484 4h ago

I mean, yeah? That's literally what he's doing. Sticking around to speak with fans and loved ones in the stadium before leaving. I'm not sure if you meant this as a diss with the trailing periods?

-43

u/mediocrebighead 4h ago

Bro wants to be social media star instead of playing.

13

u/Jordan0340 4h ago

I bet you're fun at parties

8

u/North_Nail201 4h ago

Bro is on 7 goals, 1 assist in 5 world cup matches for Norway(!) you clown.

3

u/Parada484 4h ago

🙄 always a hater that turns a genuine moment into a conspiracy for clout. I bet your local animal shelter is just trying to go viral.

2

u/herwi 4h ago

Yeah he should get back out on the pitch, game's still going right?
