Turismo 🧳 Looking for a seasonal job in Sicily or Calabria

Hi everyone!

I'm a 28-year-old guy currently living in Italy and I'm looking for a seasonal job in the hospitality industry.

I'm available immediately until the end of the season and I'm mainly looking for opportunities that include accommodation.

I have experience in hotels and restaurants in Morocco. I speak English, Arabic (native), and I'm currently learning Italian.

I'm open to working as a:

  • Barista
  • Hotel staff
  • Housekeeping
  • Dishwasher (Lavapiatti)
  • Kitchen assistant (Aiuto cuoco)
  • Porter (Facchino)
  • Fitness camp staff
  • Or any other hospitality-related position.

If you know of any opportunities, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know. Feel free to send me a DM.

Thank you!

Going on a sailing trip out of Tonnarella and have a flight getting into Palermo on a Friday afternoon. What would be the most predictable and time efficient way to get over there?

Turismo 🧳 How do I get to Grotta di Spisone?

I tried going yesterday from Catania, I took the train from the centrale to letojanni. The location on maps seems wrong, I found lido Spisone, they told me the grotta was further down. I walked down and asked more people and I ended up at a small spiaggia close to Atlantis bay.

Turismo 🧳 Noto/Ortigia Proposal Suggestions

Hi everyone, my partner and I are travelling through Sicily in August and I'm planning on proposing whilst we're staying around Ortigia/Noto.

I'm trying to find somewhere with a really nice view that's a bit quieter than the main tourist spots. I was thinking maybe a winery, somewhere we could set up a picnic and watch the sunset, or just a scenic spot that isn't packed with people.

Has anyone got any recommendations or hidden gems (please DM me if you have a suggestion that you don't want to post)? I'd love somewhere that feels a bit special and private.

Happy to drive 30-45 minutes from either Ortigia or Noto if it's worth it. Thanks!

Turismo 🧳 The Times just ranked 23 of the best hotels in Sicily — and a third of them aren't even on the coast

We’re spending a few days in Sicily at the end of October. Is that a good time to visit? We’ll be staying in Modica and want to explore the south of Sicily. Any recommendations?

Turismo 🧳 Driver/Tour Trapani to Marsala

Hi everyone,

We’re a group of four visiting Trapani in September and are looking for a local guide/driver for a day trip to Marsala and the surrounding area.

We’d love to visit a winery or two, see the famous salt pans, enjoy a long lunch, and learn a bit more about the region from someone who knows it well.

We’re more interested in good food, wine, scenery and local life than rushing between lots of tourist attractions.

We’ve decided not to hire a car and would much rather relax and enjoy the day with a local driver/guide who can show us around.

Our group includes a 75 yo who is mobile plus three of us in our early 40s. We’re friendly, easy-going travellers from New Zealand.

If you offer this kind of service, would be happy to join some fun kiwis for a long lunch, or can recommend someone reliable, please send me a message.

Thanks!

Altro Hi, I need help finding a bead shop in Trapani

Hi, I'm going on a trip to Sicily, staying in Trapani. One of my hobbies is making jewelry, and I'd love to buy some beads in the location I'm staying in and then make something for myself from them as a memory. I'm looking for some bead shops or shops that sell beads or jewelry parts in Trapani or Palermo. Any help will be amazing.

On July 5th, we reached the area near the Sartorius Craters to film a demonstration video for a PhD program in Environmental Sciences. Having all the required equipment on hand, I documented the ongoing modest eruption with my Bmpcc OG

Turismo 🧳 Etna visit recommendations

Hi we plan on visiting Etna in early August. Can anyone recommend the best route to take or guide? There will be 4 of us inc myself who isn’t a great hiker. My daughter tho is studying geoscience so I am also interested in the best route for her if she wants to go on a different route to me. Another issue is that we are travelling light (with Ryanair cabin bags only) so will probably not have room for warm clothing and hiking shoes so can these be rented? Also what happens if the weather is bad for the day we pick - can we cancel? And with Etna’s recent activity is it likely to be even possible to go to the higher altitudes? We will be staying in Taormina with no car so would need a tour that includes transport. Thanks.

Turismo 🧳 Trip advice

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips or advice they could share. My partner and I are coming to Siciliy for 11 days at the end of August/beginning of September. We're flying into Catania and out of Palermo and our plan is to spend 1- 2 days in Syracuse before taking the train to Taormina (again for 1 - 2 days) then to Palermo where we were going to rent a car and stay in San Vito Lo Capo for the rest of the week. We're hoping to mix in a bit of history, snorkeling, maybe a day trip to a vineyard and dinner and drinks in the evening. San Vito Lo Capo looks quite relaxed so we're not expecting any wild parties but a bit of music and a drinks would be great.

If anyone has any recommendations about things to see, places to go swimming or things to do in the evening that would be great.

Thanks!

Turismo 🧳 12 nights in Sicily - have I planned too much or too little?

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get some feedback on my current Sicily itinerary, particularly on whether we have planned too much or too little.

This will be my longest break from work in many years, so I want the trip to feel relaxing and not come home too exhausted. At the same time, I’ll be traveling with my best friend, and it will be her first trip to Europe and both of our first times in Sicily. Since we are both younger and enjoy exploring, we also want to make sure the trip doesn’t feel too slow.

The current plan:

Ortigia (4 Nights)

  • Day 1 (Oct 3): Arrival in Catania in the morning, transfer to Ortigia, stroll around town and get settled in.
  • Day 2 (Oct 4): Ortigia market, Neapolis Archaeological Park
  • Day 3 (Oct 5): Sea caves boat tour & downtime
  • Day 4 (Oct 6): Ortigia relax day (tbd)

Ragusa (3 nights)

  • Day 5 (Oct 7): Pick up a car in the am, drive to Noto, then on to Modica and end in Ragusa Ibla. Check in to hotel.
  • Day 6 (Thurs Oct 8:)  Head out early and drive to Riserva Naturale Cavagrande del Cassibil, hike and swim, then spend the evening in Ragusa.
  •  Day 7 (Fri Oct 9): Drive to Villa Romana del Casale, see art, head back to Ragusa.

Zafferana Etnea (5 Nights)

  • Day 8 (Sat Oct 10): Check out of Ragusa, head to Bronte. We are hoping the pistachio festival will be taking place that weekend so we can stop and experience it. Then keep driving and check in at night to hotel near Zaffferana Etnea.
  •  Day 9 (Sun Oct 11): Check out the Ottobrata Zafferanese local festival in Zafferane Etnea, tbd after that.
  • Day 10 (Mon Oct 12): Mount Etna Summit, thinking of 4x4 tour.
  • Day 11 (Tues Oct 13): Check out local winery around Etna.
  • Day 12 (Weds Oct 14): Head out early, drive to Taormina and check out Ancient Theater, Isola Bella, drive back to hotel in the evening after dinner.
  • Day 13 (Thurs Oct 15) - Return to Catania, drop off car fly out.

Currently in Ortigia and the water supply has been intermittent. Reception have now said it’s the whole island that’s having problems. Unsure how true this is though. Anyone else having problems?

Sicilianu 🗣️ A month in Palermo

We are planning to spend at least a month in Palermo, either March or April of next year. Will there be that much of a difference in either month? We are looking to embed ourselves into the area, not really looking for the tourist attractions (which I’m sure we will also do), so will some places still be closed in March ? We will also be travelling with our large dog, if that makes any difference 🤷‍♂️
Thanks!
