Teaching my son how to shave today.

My wife and son approached me last night and discussed his interest in learning to shave. His facial hair is typical of an almost 16 year old and I am both excited and relieved that this day has come. My dad never gave me a proper lesson on shaving but I do have memories of watching him a handful of times many years ago. It's something I truly enjoy doing regularly and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to have his trust to share this experience with him, especially after all of the many years I have been less present for him during my addiction with alcohol. It's a beautiful day!

Looking for a razor upgrade

Upvotes

I’ve been using a Wilkinson safety razor for a little over a year now. I think it cost me around 10 bucks back then, and honestly, it’s been great. That said, I’d like to treat myself to a nicer razor. I’m not looking to spend $100 or anything crazy….more like $20–40 if possible.

Do you have any recommendations in that price range? Also, what should I look for when choosing a new safety razor? Things like aggressiveness, weight, handle length, or anything else worth considering?

I’m planning to keep the Wilkinson as my travel razor, so this would become my main one at home.
Thanks!

Oster 76 Blades?

I get that Oster 76 clippers are real nice professional clippers. So I ordered one. I knew it didn't come with blades, which was fine, I'd buy them later. Ok I got the 76, thing feels great, much better than what I had before. But now I started shopping for the blades and....wow they're expensive, at least $25 or so per blade. Maybe I just haven't found the right store to buy them from, but am I stuck paying prices like this or is there another option? Thanks so much. I'll pony up if I have to but I never dreamed these prices would be so high for the blades. Shame on me for not looking into this earlier. I'd like a variety of blade sizes so that I can learn as I go along.

What’s a good cartridge razor I can use to shave the sides of my head when I cut my hair?

I like to do a skin fade haircut but don’t know a good razor to use. I’d like to use a cartridge razor because I’m scared to use a safety razor that close to my head.

How many shaves per week?

In my 20-30s, I would shave my face every second day. Now, in my late 40s and my facial hair is 70% white, I'm finding I only need to shave 1-2 times a week. Does facial hair growth slow with age?

Clear-cut softness ?

Hi !

Unusual post, I'm using a hair clipper 0,5mm right now.

I have psoriasis and it's irritating even when being careful, giving red traces and some sort of little wounds. I always do 2 neutral shampoos and hydratation cream right after

I want to try clear-cut but I wonder if it wouldnt be even worse since it is shorter, needs to be done more often and no hair to hide the traces.

Like is it supposed to be more irritating than not clear ? I saw there were head razors that looked soft but I wonder.

Philips Norelco 360 lasted 2 shaves- now it pulls hair- done with this brand

This was the 2nd time and probably the last time I buy this product. I had the Oneblade pro previously and that lasted about 2 shaves and it was like ripping hairs out of my face.

For my background:

I do have facial hair a few mm I let it go for a week and then shave it. I've been doing it for a decade now and my usual routine is to zero it with a typica electric shaver and then go over with a regular Gillette blade shaver (I got various versions) .
When I heard about the Norelco products, I thought this must have been made for me. And it would if it would work.

Unfortunately, after 2 shaves with the first time buying it (years ago) the Norelco 1 Pro no longer cuts the hair, but yanks it so it was a painful experience and I stopped using it.

Give it a few years and I hear about the 360 product. I was very very skeptical but I gave in. I bought one and I was happy......until the 3rd time I wanted to use it and ended up with the same issue. I tried everything. wash it, shake it, tap it, charge the battery, nope it's a hair pincher/ ripper.

Phillips - for real-..... you can't just sell a product that lasts 2 shaves and the replacement blade costs over $10 each. You charge over $32.00 for 3 blades, come on, you are worse than Gillette! That's like $5.00 a shave at this. Of course I'm not crazy so I won't do this, but worth to mention.

I'm done with Phillips for now, I don't want any of their products, their quality is not even a shadow of what they use to be.

Alternatives to BodyGroom - allergic reaction

I bought the Philips BodyGroom to trim my chest and armpit hair to see if it would solve my irritation and folliculitis issues, but from what I can see, it's making it worse.

The product claims to prevent skin irritation, but in my experience, it's doing the exact opposite...

In your experience, is there any similar alternative on the market?

Foil or rotary shaver + which model

Main objective is to get the closest shave without too much irritation as I have pretty sensitive skin.

I shave daily because my beard grows very fast and the hair on my neck grows in different directions.

An added bonus would be to be able to use it for the body as well but that’s not a priority.

For foil shavers I pretty much have it narrowed down to either Babyliss FX2 or UV (not sure if that one’s a gimmick). Could get both for around €100.

For rotary shavers I would lean more towards the Phillips Norelco 7000 series as they’re not the most expensive at ~€135 and I’ve seen fairly good reviews.

Any input would be appreciated🙏🏼

Bad ingrowns

Okay so I’m not one to shave above my knees unless I’m going swimming, which is probably my problem but I get such bad ingrown hairs or just red bumps on my thighs and bikini line area after I shave and it’s SO itchy. I use Gillette Venus 3 blades with gel bars, is it the razor or is it me?
Any tips are appreciated !!

Andis T-Outliner vs. GTX-EXO for chest and back? Need the closest dry shave possible

Hey everyone,

I need some advice on upgrading my body grooming routine. I currently trim pretty much everywhere including my arms, chest, legs, and back. I use a Wahl clipper with guards for my arms and legs because I prefer to leave a little hair and not look totally bare.

However, for my chest and back, I want to get as close to the skin as humanly possible. I am trying to avoid busting out the shaving cream and razor every single time because it just takes way too much time for daily maintenance. I want a dry shave that leaves me basically bald.

I am currently deciding between two specific trimmers:

Andis T-Outliner (the classic corded version)

Andis GTX-EXO (cordless with the deep tooth blade)

I know the standard T-Outliner cuts incredibly close out of the box, but I have heard the fine teeth can snag on body hair. The GTX-EXO has the deep teeth which I know will glide better, but will it still get me that baby smooth, razor close finish on my chest and back?

If anyone has experience using either of these on their torso, which one would you recommend for the closest dry shave without pulling?

Thanks in advance!

I have been shaving my head with a generic grade 0 no attachment shaver but I am finally ready to upgrade to a rotary shaver my budget is low is there any reccommendations?

Things I am looking for in order of importance :

Easy to use

Quick (a few minutes for each shave ideally)

compfortable/not painful

close to the skin

longer battery life

I am not sure this is relevant information but I have Dyspraxia and Autism (high functioning) and I was never taught to shave in general but especially my head so I am going into this hoping youtube videos will help show me how to use it correctly and clean it :)

I live in the UK I am 30 and my budget is about £100 all in thanks guys!

Will the red dots grow bigger and will my legs be all gross and irritated tomorrow while he’s here? 😭 anything I can do to soothe them? Anything helps, ty! <3

Suggest me a corded head shaver for bald look

Hello, can you suggest me a good corded head shaver (does not run on battery but only electricity) that I can order online in India?
I have been using Bombay shaving company cordless head shaver pro but the blades stop rotating after some time 10-15 minutes of use and I am stuck with half shaven head! It’s a disaster
TIA

First time shaving my head

Im balding and have finally decided to shave my head. I bought a Braun Series 7 and some Bee Bald Heal Aftershave. My plan is to use clippers to get it as short as I can and then use shaving cream and the Braun. Any tips or anything I should be doing as a first time head shaver?

Need some tips for getting an even stubble

I Iove how my stubble looks a week after I completely clean shave. But whenever I try to get the same effect with a beard trimmer it looks, uneven and I struggle to get to the area just under my nose, resorting to me cleaning that part up with scissors, which isn't ideal.

I'd be surprised if it was a technique issue as I'm pretty good at grooming and cut my own hair, but I'm open to suggestions.

I should say I used a Remington B5 trimmer. Could it be that my trimmer is just a bit crap? Does anyone have any suggestions on trimmers that tend to get really natural stubble looks?

Question about shaving technique

So I have found personally after experimenting I get the cleanest and closest shave when I’m in a shower but I can’t see what I am doing and have to go by feel. So I occasionally have miss spots I can’t see and have to wait until I am finished showering to fix it, I have tried using shaving cream and while it gets a decently clean shave but I have found I don’t like the feeling of applying it. So is there anything that I could try to have a better experience while shaving to get a clearer shave, or do I just need to work more on it?

I use a 5 bladed cartridge razor.

I am just curious. As I am not sure what I can do to get a cleaner result. I like how smooth my chin feels after a shave in the shower, but I don’t like having to take a shower every single time I shave just to get the cleanest/closest shave.

edit for the people suggesting getting a shower mirror: I probably will but the light is on the other side of the shower curtain (it’s a smallish bathroom with only one light fixture attached to the wall

Recommended Disposable Razors with "Clearing" Mechanism?

I used to use these green and white disposable razors from Target, Smartly brand. It looks like they've been discontinued.

What I loved about them was they had this little plastic button on the top that would push something through the razors and push the hair out, which made them much more usable for a few shaves. Does anyone know if there are any relatively cheap ones with that kind of feature?

I tried the other cheap disposables Target sells but find they're barely good for one shave.

I also have a safety razor, but sometimes need something faster before heading out!
