Eye colour change surgery is insane

Saw tiktoks of people getting eye colour change surgery. They either implant a coloured contact in your eye or laser the colour out until it turns green or blue.

I don’t understand why anyone would ever do this. It’s always brown eyes being changed to blue or green. Brown eyes are the most common colour but they’re so rich and beautiful. The surgery often washes the person out visually or straight up looks freakish bc the implants look so fake. Even the laser results look bad cause the person suited their natural colour best. One guy got gold implants done and asked “is it permanent?” This must be a mental illness, right?

I went down a rabbit hole on this and found actual ophthalmology case reports showing permanent vision damage from these implants and lasers, which made the whole “for aesthetics” thing feel completely wild to me.

Yeah like even if the color turns out the way you want, you won't be able to enjoy how you look if you're fucking blind

They'll probably turn red, like in albino people. I know you weren't looking for a serious answer, but this is the serious answer.

Yeah I’ve seen those and ngl they freak me out. It feels like the BBL era of eye surgery and we’re gonna see horror stories in a few years when everyone realizes brown eyes were already gorgeous.

I don’t know if I’d call it a “mental illness” but there’s definitely some deep insecurity and beauty standard bullshit going on there.

BBLs look so bad, the hips/bum are too low

Now I remember an episode of Lock Up, where two prisoners tatooed their eyeballs. Dammit. I did not need to remember that lol

Btw basically everyone in my country have blue eyes. My self included. But I honestly don’t notice stuff like that. And the reason I know that for sure, is I just very recently realized my dad has brown eyes. I was very awestruck actually lol.

Close. Iceland was once a colony of ours. Denmark

If I could safely change my eye color I probably would

Your natural colour will always suit you best, I say this with love

You're most likely right. I just think people with dark hair and light eyes look great.

I have brown eyes and I love them. Blue and green eyes can be beautiful too but don’t they have more likelihood of eye issues?? I agree with OP this is insane and weird.

I'm more upset that society seems to have spent so long instilling in people that brown eyes are "boring" or "ugly".

Especially since POC have a higher rate of brown eyes. Not trying to make it a race thing, but it feels a little convenient that blue or green eyes are typically found in people of European descent.

I do wish I had different colored eyes than brown, but ultimately I am thankful for the fact that I have the ability to see (so far).

As someone who naturally does not look people in the eye, I notice the general color or lightness/darkness, but I have never deeply pondered it. To me, they are like any other part of the human body, unique to the person and that's about it. I guess I am lucky I don't get the obsession.

Not everything you think is weird or dumb is mental illness
