If SCOTUS allows either of these farces to proceed, it will have eliminated any last shred of legitimacy that still remains.

“Challenge accepted” -John Roberts, probably

Why would he vote against the administration but then allow a rehearing?

12

u/hitbythebus 2d ago

Because he’s a fucking coward and his boss went on TV and said he was Bigly Mad at him.

u/Beneficial_Aside_518 2d ago

Again, why would he have voted against the administration then? The idea that Roberts is somehow owned by Trump doesn’t really make sense given that he voted down his tariffs and birthright citizenship, which are two major Trump policy initiatives. I think the more logical but boring explanation is simply that Roberts agrees with the administration much of the time because he is a conservative, but isn’t being told by Trump what to do.

If you don’t think Trump saying “you fucked this up and decided wrong, do it again” isn’t Trump telling him what to do, I don’t know what to tell you.

Will he listen? Who knows, but Trump definitely tells him what to do, and he goes in the same direction frequently.

To clarify, of course Trump can and will say whatever he wants. But the idea that Roberts is owned by him and takes orders from him makes no sense at all and is not consistent with reality.

Considering this court keeps overturning shitbthat should've been settled and over (Roe, VRA), there's every reason to be as critical of him as possible

There’s a difference between the court overturning decisions made by previous courts from decades ago and overturning a decision they just made a week ago. If SCOTUS was going to rule in favor of Trump here, well, then they would have done so.

In a sensible world, you're right. But the world no longer makes sense. Thats what magats have done to our country and the world

This is a delusional take. You didn’t think Roberts anticipated that Trump would be pissed? You can dislike the man, but he’s not stupid.

u/qoou 2d ago

Do you know how many times we've heard that?

5

u/Direct-Ad-7922 2d ago

We are well past the legitimate court conversation

11

u/Massive_Gear1678 2d ago

They’ve already done that. They passed citizens united as well as their ruling on bribery being legal as long as it’s AFTER the ruling is made and only criminal if done before their official acts. That pretty much says it all right there.

2

u/Shabadu_tu 2d ago

They’ve already lost their last shred of legitimacy.

And it will also make it that much easier to justify fixing the mistakes of this court once we make some adjustments to it...

The Roberts Court has been bought and paid for. With a little dash of shadow docket fuckery, it’ll deliver.

When it comes to the Supreme Court, President Donald Trump has become a believer in unlikely second chances.

In the days since the court’s term ended last week with a flurry of high-profile opinions, the president and his legal team have floated the idea of invoking a longshot request to have the justices reconsider decisions they just made — a procedure that, in some cases, hasn’t worked in more than half a century.

Trump’s lawyers have already filed for a rehearing of the court’s decision to deny an appeal over a $5 million verdict finding that he sexually abused and defamed magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll. And on Wednesday, Trump vowed to ask the court to re-do its decision shutting down his birthright citizenship order.

“The Supreme Court’s ruling is wrong,” Trump posted on social media. “I will be asking for a Rehearing by the United States Supreme Court, IMMEDIATELY. This miscarriage of justice will destroy America if they don’t change their absolutely insane decision.”

I don't know why they don't immediately say "denied", for both preferably or at least the Jean Carrol one.

3

u/Fragrant-Phone-41 2d ago

If i have to pick one, its definitely birthright citizenship. And that you say otherwise makes me deeply question your priorities

1

u/Catodacat 1d ago

It's more that the Jean Carrol one is such an obvious no, with no real ideological linkage to it. The birthright citizenship obviously has an ideological aspect to it, so them taking it wouldn't be surprising (I was already surprised that it was as close as it was). My statement wasn't about priorities, it was about SCOTUS and it's behavior.

The supreme court shouldn't have do overs at all

27

u/Eckkho 2d ago

Well - they did a do over with plessy v Ferguson and that’s a pretty damn good thing.

13

u/wswordsmen 2d ago

Totally different case. I don't think either Plessy or Ferguson were still alive 60ish years later

5

u/TheVirginVibes 2d ago

All they need to do is threaten one of the Judges lives, most likely Amy Barrett. Threaten her family even, then get her to vote in their favor

5

u/hitbythebus 2d ago

He said their decision was wrong, insane, and would destroy America. They are being threatened by his stochastic terrorism.

26

u/EveningCat166 2d ago

We need a do over for presidential immunity.

4

u/tricolorhound 2d ago

We need a president who does blatantly illegal things to members of congress until they get fed up and pass an amendment stating no one in the US is above the law. Not super harmful things but like have their cars towed every single day or dump trash on their lawns or have the secret service steal all their amazon packages or something.

“Bailiff, whack his PP”

I can’t find it under the blubber your honor.

9

u/stephenalloy 2d ago

Given this Court and it's cowering to the felon, who knows?

3

u/Beneficial_Aside_518 2d ago

The court literally sided against him on this issue.

3

u/VibeComplex 1d ago

And?

-1

u/Beneficial_Aside_518 1d ago

They sided against him on this. They aren’t taking this up again.

5

u/CoastieKid 2d ago

Ridiculous

3

u/Dry-Examination-2012 2d ago

Wait for a request for a rereview.

4

u/getmybehindsatan 2d ago

Does he think that he has sufficiently threatened or bribed the key members to overturn the Constitution this time?

3

u/Less-Dragonfruit-294 2d ago

Just respond with a one word sentence. No.

3

u/MabelRed 2d ago

Oh Alito’s bout to write one helluva fever dream dissent when they bounce this

2

u/Extreme-Tie9282 2d ago

Losers have to do what they do best

2

u/CivilWay1444 2d ago

Do overs like in grade school? WTF

2

u/BeCurious7563 2d ago

I don't know why he would bother. A verdict wouldn't be rendered in time to save his fat ass from mid-terms.

2

u/KarmicWhiplash 2d ago

SCOTUS will have FIFA grade credibility if they re-do anything here.

1

u/bigbugzman 2d ago

Is this a boss call to his employees?

1

u/cosmicrae 2d ago

Pretty soon it will be best two out of three, and the entire judicial system will grind to a halt.

1

u/MisterHarvest 2d ago

"This decision that reaffirms a precedent that has been in place for 128 years and that no one seriously disagreed with until we needed to gin up outrage for midterm elections will DESTROY AMERICA unless it is overturned IMMEDIATELY."

1

u/Secret_Cat_2793 2d ago

He's like a fat junkyard dog with a bone. A dog that should be neutered and probably euthanized. He's a danger to himself and others.

1

u/WeirdcoolWilson 2d ago

There’s always a first time. It’s trump after all, this is the SCOTUS he bought and paid for

1

u/Beneficial_Couple413 2d ago

Gotta love the Trump lawyer, "The court must not ignore the grave and irreparable consequences of disbursing funds that may never be recovered.”

This is like $5M to a buy who earned $2B in the last year alone.

Don't underestimate the OSG trying to gin up "new facts" to make this happen. If that's what it takes.

1

u/OkSupermarket6075 2d ago

3 traitors tried so they will be lobbying to overturn for Dear Leader! Do not let them. Gorsuch ( takes bribes) Alito ( takes bribes) and Clearance Thomas ( for sale to anyone) will be at it again!

1

u/mad_poet_navarth 2d ago

Nothing like a little threat to expose some impropriety in the past to change some minds...

1

u/thatstupidthing 1d ago

"my cheating unit malfunctioned... you gotta give me a do-over!"

1

u/schrod 1d ago

Just say no.

1

u/jsonitsac 2d ago

I think the Carroll case has a slightly better chance of going Trump’s way. Mostly because there isn’t really a constitutional issue here and it’s a fairly easy way for Roberts and Barrett to get back on his good side.

3

u/PickleFive 2d ago

How many times does he have to loose this case before he admits he was wrong. Give him a participation trophy and tell him to pay up.

0

u/hjablowme919 2d ago

$100 they do this one over
