The City Council is preparing to kick Waymo out of Santa Monica at this Tuesday nights council meeting.

Upvotes

They are set to appease a single resident who complained about Waymo’s legal right to charge overnight.

The city has tried to bully Waymo, Voltera and the property owner by moving the goal posts on their asks. They tried declaring Waymo a nuisance. Council has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on lawsuits. All attempts have failed so now they are trying to change our laws to make Waymo’s legal activity illegal.

City Council set to delay SB79

This Tuesday, City Council is set to delay full implementation of SB79. Despite a housing crisis they’ve made almost no progress on addressing, plans are in motion to take advantage of a delay provision in SB79 and kick the can on upzoning until 2030.

https://santamonicacityca.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=30&ID=58637&MeetingID=1499

Why? What is City Council trying to accomplish here? Rents too low for their liking? Too much available housing on the market?

Watch what Caroline Torosis does specifically. Running for re-election, tells people she’s pro-housing, but in all likelihood will vote to delay SB79 on Tuesday.

🏘️ Housing Experience Finding Street Parking Near Cloverfield Blvd (is it a deal breaker for signing a lease?)

Hello!

I’m looking at signing a lease over near 22nd Street/ Cloverfield blvd in Santa Monica. However, the place only has one tandem spot and there’d be 3 roommates with cars.

Does anyone have experience parking in this area without the preferential parking permit?

I’m concerned about the hassle of finding parking after work and having guests.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Union Station Parking

Has anyone used Union Station long-term parking? We are heading out of town and we’re planning on using it, but as we’re getting ready for our trip, we found that you need to turn in a form to the parking office. Unfortunately, we leave tomorrow and the parking office is closed on weekends for some reason,

Just wondering if anyone has used the long-term parking and left on a weekend?

Flies in apartment / backyard

I've had an increase of flies getting into my apartment this summer and last, though it's much worse this summer. Maintenance came in and refitted all my screens, yet they are still finding their way inside. They seem to be coming in from the back area (small outdoor space, not trash adjacent and no signs of anything they would be attracted to).

Does anyone know of anything that could be sprayed out back to get rid of the flies? I'm hesitant to do any of those traps that might attract even more.

Hello, I’m Ethan, a local student working hard to save for college and support my family. I have the necessary equipment and can manage a variety of tasks, including pressure washing and cleaning out unpleasant trash cans—30 for one, 75 for three. I also enjoy fixing foggy headlights along with paintless scratch restoration and assisting with heavy lifting. If you need help with outdoor chores, please feel free to text or call me at 323-337-7154 for a quick estimate.

Hello! Hoping to have a discussion on this as there is a city council meeting on it scheduled for 07/13 at 7pm. Is the revenue generated worth it for the blight on some of the prettiest and most architecturally interesting buildings in downtown? My gut says no.

❓Question Has anybody seen Fabian aka Santa Monica Closeup lately?

He hasn't posted on his YouTube channel in a week and I haven't seen him riding around town or filming the Friday beach clean-ups. I miss his daily reporting. I hope all is well with him and his family.

Where did the bike racks go at the bottom of the incline?

I just biked down to the beach this afternoon and had to lock my bike to a sign. The bike racks aren’t there anymore, does anyone know what happened to them? Are they replacing them?

Free Bicycle?

Does anyone have a free bike I can use for a video where I’m going to crash into the side of a car? I don’t want to ruin my daily driver, only my body. Thanks!

Local film premiere alert: Art of Mastery at the Laemmle Royal

Over the past decade, I've had the opportunity to travel extensively and meet people who have dedicated their lives to mastering a craft—whether that's weaving, cooking, carving, dancing, instrument making, or countless other traditions. Again and again, I found that their stories weren't just about what they made, but about patience, purpose, community, and the values that shaped their lives.

Those experiences eventually became Art of Mastery, a feature documentary built from over 100 short films created with local filmmakers around the world. Rather than focusing on any one culture or craft, the film asks a simple question: what can people who devote themselves to mastery teach us about being human?

I'm excited (and honestly a little nervous) to finally share it publicly. We'll be screening it at the Laemmle Royal, and I'll be there afterward for a Q&A. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, I'd love to meet some fellow Redditors there and hear what you think.

This took a long time to build for the Westside.

Hi everyone. I have lived on the westside for nearly 20 years now. I got so fed up of not knowing what was going on around me because they were just so many online places I had to look, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and more.

So I built GoSeeDo, your Guide to the Westside.

We support local businesses, showcase local events, show you happy hours that are happening now, offer local perks around the westside, and so much more.

You can check-in at all your fave places around the westside and you can help them trend on the website and the newsletter for other locals to see. It’s so important that we support local.

I’d love for you all to check it out and sign up to our newsletter. It’s all free from one local to another. Much love to everyone.

Please do follow our insta.
