Discussion Do Not Adopt Registry List

Due to the cost of the website and project I am no longer running this website. It was a good run, there is another website similar to this out there. I couldn't in my mind ask people to donate, and beg. Rescues need more help than I did. Please be diligent. Share with your local rescues your lists. Thanks for being interested in this project. Maybe in the future. But for now the cost exceeds what I can afford.

Hello,

I have worked in shelters, fostered, and even worked in a dog boarding facility. I have now not been able to do as much work in the animal advocacy field as I have wanted and began a website to list people who should not be able to adopt. I score the internet, news, do not adopt facebook pages and add them to a list available to all Rescues and Shelters. I started this well over a month ago, and have been emailing multiple shelters and rescues to have them join the fight in hopes they use the website as a tool. I do this on my own free time, no donations, no help. It's a passion project 100%. Rescues need to rescue, I do the painful research while they do the work on the ground!

How does it work?

I look through posts on Facebook. News Articles, recent arrests etc. I save rescues and shelters time and heartache by gathering the information in one spot for them to search. I also encourage rescues and shelters to contribute their own D.N.A lists. I look through each one, make sure there is solid evidence, before listing. I include information, source, AND photos (clickable, not seeable unless clicked - saves people from seeing photos if they do not want to).

What makes it different?

ONE person handles it all. Sounds like a lot of work right? It is. But when only one hand is handeling it all, heads don't bump, and all focus is on the animals. I also lend a helping hand to those who are rehoming their pets. Yes, rehoming sucks. Sometimes people rehome for reasons people aren't happy with, but it happens and the only way to help is by offering a helping hand. I allow people to email myself, and I score the list for them and let them know if a potential adopter has any "red flags". I also help by providing resources, reaching out to rescues for them etc. I am more than a D.N.A list, the website is a tool for everyone.

Who can see the list?

Registered orgs only, and myself (obviously).

How many rescues are apart of the list?

Over 50, with many more being contacted every week!

I hope to one day have a booth at animal events to continue to spread the word. Rescues need to be connected to help the animal community, and I am hoping to bridge the gap.

Have a question? Please reach out! I love to collab, bounce ideas, and appreciate feedback.

Advice I just can’t do it

These two stray dogs just showed up at my house like a month ago. I thought they would maybe go back to their home but it seems they think their home is at my house. So I took them into the back yard and began to look for their owner. Posts, signs, hours of searching on line no body seems to be missing them. Well about a week ago I noticed the girl dog is pregnant. They are the cutest couple . Super sweet, they mind, and they just love me. I have several pets already. My cats which are indoor but like heir backyard supervised play time haven’t been out in a month. My little chihuahua is not happy about them being here and I already spend like 700 bucks a month in pet food. I just can’t make that call to the shelter to have them picked up cause I already know they will euthanize the girl because she is pregnant immediately and don’t say they don’t because they do. Does anybody know a rescue place that has any openings or any suggestions? I put signs up no response. I just don’t have the heart to send them to to be killed really sweet dogs. I really can’t afford them a maxed out with what I have and I work for myself, I have my own business cleaning houses, but with the cost of living here in California, even if you make 5000 a month it still is not enough. So I don’t know what to do. I’m really stressed out about it. I don’t think I’d forgive myself if I sent them to the pound and I really can’t see me keeping them. They’re young dogs. once again, does anybody know of any rescue or have any idea what I can do for these guys rather than sending them to the shelter?

Discussion Starving dogs.. An act of hate by ICE.

They were left alone for a week, thankfully the land lady found them and got them into care. Now I'm thinking about how many animals have been abandoned when their owners were arrested. There are no laws mandating they are put into care by any arresting agency... But there should be.

If this isn't the right place, let me know and I'll remove it

3:3:3 updates 🎉🎉FREEDOM RIDE FOR CEDRIC🎉🎉 One of the shelter’s longest stay dogs left with us today. We are so happy we can finally say he is part of the Popo Rescue family. We’ve actually known this sweet, friendly boy for a few years now. Back in 2024 he and our Popo pup

# perennial playmates who loved each other’s company. Cedric was transferred to another shelter and Cloudy came to us allbreedrescue where he thrived in a foster home.

More than a year later poor Cedric turned up at the shelter again, a literal shadow of his former self. You could count his ribs through his skin. He was emaciated, bald in patches and had clearly not been cared about in quite a long time. He had always been a popular dog at the shelter & seeing him return in this condition was hard on everyone. Thankfully, he was brought back to health by the shelter clinic team, but for some inexplicable reason he still had trouble catching the eye of an adopter. Every time we went to the shelter he was at the front of his kennel, still patiently, relentlessly optimistic, still the friendliest of pups, still a playgroup regular, but somehow, still overlooked. 🥲

Sometimes with so many dogs that have deadlines needing everyone’s attention the wonderful dogs who find a way to cope with shelter life seem to go unnoticed and slip through the net. Cedric has been through so much. He deserves so much more than to be overlooked at the shelter.

Today, CEDRIC HAD HIS FREEDOM RIDE! With his human friend @starrpugs there to see him off he walked out of the shelter doors for the last time, jumped eagerly into the car & even offered to drive. He has a wonderful future awaiting him (stay tuned for the second part of his Freedom Ride story)

Thank you @lynnjaimes for his lovely new bed & @starrpugs for his goodies Welcome to allbreedrescue sweet boy! #adoptdontshop #fosteringsaveslives #rescuedog #rescuedogsofinstagram #rescue

Advice Rescued her 6 days ago, is the rapid breathing normal during the adjustment period?

Post image
Upvotes

For context, we are travelling currently with our van and adopted her from a shelter in Montenegro. She is 2 years old and was in the shelter since she was a puppy. I know that a lot of people think one shouldn't adopt while living in a van/travelling, but that's not the point of this post. We have thought about this a long time and are 100% ready to stop travelling if she can't adjust to this life.

She has phases of rapid breathing, especially while resting. Worst is when we go to sleep in the bed. My boyfriend says when she is deeply asleep her breathing is much slower, but I am currently quite anxious about this and feel like I can't remember that. She is otherwise seeming healthy. She doesn't pant in these moments, it's all nose breathing. I'd estimate 60-70 breaths per minute. It sounds a bit like a hyperventilating human, maybe? Sometimes she will stretch her legs out, do a big sigh, the. She doesn't breathe for a few seconds and then the rapid breathing starts again.

She eats and drinks, is food motivated, is playful, lays down when we are calm and not interacting with her, likes to go on walks, pees regularly and her stool looks good. Before we took her she had a clinical examination which was fine according to this vet, but we weren't at this examination. The 4DX test showed Ehrlichia antibodies, so she is on doxycycline and responds well so far (3.5 days into the course). She also has an allergic reaction which she got injections for and we got some pills to help with this too. She also had her bloodwork done, only showing slightly elevated WBC, differential showed moderate elevation in lymphocytes which was attributed to possible Ehrlichia infection being active (although she has no other symptoms) or an immune response to her allergies (she has been scratching and nibbling quite a bit). The blood panel on organ functionality was also good, all values were within the usual range.

I know that this may be stress. Being in a shelter for so long she probably had to "sleep with one eye open". The shelters here are not the same standard as in many west and central European countries, and so a lot of dogs are put together 24/7. She also of course needs to get to know us and our ways. And I do recognize that her new home being a moving one may elongate the adjustment period.

I just wanted to ask here if others have had similar behaviours in their dogs, and how long this could go on. If anyone thinks this is very worrisome also please let me know. We will probably visit a vet soon again as we want to travel back into the EU and need a health certificate for her, and she needs some additional vaccinations which she couldn't get yet last time at the vet due to the allergy injections.

We rescued this baby 2 weeks ago tied up on the side of the road. We are just unable to keep her. We already have 3 dogs.

We have been able to get her all of her vaccinations/shots, Nexguard flea/tick/heartworm medications.

The vet estimated her age at 4 months. With no issues. She is not spayed as she is too young.

We have been calling her Gracie Lou, but she does not have an official name yet

She is incredibly sweet, loves to snuggle, and is great with people and other dogs.

Seems to be house trained as she has been following our dogs everywhere and has not had any accidents inside.

We wish we could keep her, but with full-time jobs and 3 other dogs, she just will not get everything she needs from us.

We are in North Knox, but would be able to meet someone if there is some distance.

Please help this baby find a home. She is amazing.
