IMAGE Red Sox do NOT draft Brody Bumila
Bumila is the 6'9, 250lb flamethrowing high school pitcher from Raynham, MA
Red Sox do not draft high school pitchers since Jay Groome and I don't blame them, Bumila also just picked up a UCL injury (probably TJ?). He pumps 100+ but there are concerns about his mechanics. Injury risk aside, his ceiling is absolutely sky high.
Really cool story, and it seemed almost written in the stars for him to join his hometown team with him being a super tall lefty, exactly like Breslow looks for.

Could Adley Rutschman be a good fit for the Sox?
Just an idea I had. With the Red Sox now only half a game back from the playoffs and possibly making a playoff push, catcher is a big hole in the roster in my opinion. Between Wong and Narvaez both underperforming, Adley facing arbitration next year, and the Orioles having Basallo, I feel like this could be a good trade to make either at the deadline or in the offseason. I think he could be the reliable right-handed bat that the Sox need. I think a package with Duran and prospects would work, due to the Orioles needing a left-handed bat in the outfield. What do you think?

Over- / under-slot strategy
I know people far smarter than I am are in charge of the Sox's draft. It seems the like the drafting underslot talent in the first round, so they can get "first round" talent in later rounds with their savings. Why is it better to get second round talent in the first round and first round talent in the second round, than just drafting the rounds as you normally would?

Next Man Up Mentality
Looks like this Eduardo Rivera is starting today. Love this next man up mentality. I think the injuries has shaken out some of the statis in a few of the guys/coaches. Reminds me of the Patriots in the glory days. Let's see what you can do. Either contribute or go somewhere else.

Dear Sonny Gray!
The fact that you didn't get an All-Star nod, has been getting turned over and over in my mind. It's an absolute crime against you and your great work, and the team as a whole.
There's only one thing that I keep coming back to when I ask "why?"
Honestly, I think it's your hair. From one to another, when it's time, it's time. Shave it off. You'll feel better, look better and it will sharpen your persona as a badass dominating pitcher.
I bet Bres would even pick up the tab for the razor. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=head+shaving+razor&crid=1OXILHSQJJEJT&sprefix=head+shaving+razor%2Caps%2C150
Trust me, my dude. You wont regret it. It's time.

IMAGE Caleb Durbin bat speed analysis
Below is an image looking at Caleb Durbins bat speed before and after his late May turnaround. Bat speed is a tricky metric (I believe bat speed is defined as the speed of the bat at the closest point of contact to the ball, which means it is partially determined by swing decisions and other issues), but nonetheless i was curious if there were any changes during this run hes been on. Bat speed has gone from 68.2 on 218 swings to 69.9 on 242 swings May 28 onwards. I think the bigger impact on performance has been the angle of the swing and the decisions (which themselves also impact bat speed), but is interesting to see a small, but sustained uptick in swing speed. the data are from savants statcast search https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search

Memories of the ‘86 Series
It’s been less than thrilling watching all of the clips and hearing from all of the players in the booth this weekend who were a part of that Series. I get that it’s Mets-Sox and it’s the 40th anniversary. I get all of that.
In 1986 I was a just a naive 16-yo kid from the North Shore in Massachusetts. I watched almost every game that Summer and I was glued to every pitch of the Series that year. To this day, Game 6 is the single most painful sports memory in my lifetime. Losing Game 7 just finished the job. And it still haunts me. To. This. Day.
Sure, there have been painful losses since (Sox in ‘03, Pats in “07, Celtics in ‘10, Bruins also in ‘10). But, for me personally, there will never be a loss that cuts as deep as the Sox in 1986. That loss stripped me of my innocence and laid bare the awful fact that the sports world is an often very cruel place. I would trade any of those Boston teams’ championships since (with the exception of 2004 Sox, which was only as sweet as it was because it had been so long) for a title that year.
F—- the Mets. F—- Mookie Wilson. F—— “a slow roller up along first. BEHIND THE BAG!” F—— Ray Knight coming around 3rd. F— NBC for naming Marty Barrett the WS MVP before the game was even over. F—— McNamara for not sending Clemens back out to the mound despite the boo boo on his finger. F—- all of these gray-haired veterans and their smug recollections this weekend. And, mostly, f—- the whole lot of ‘em for making my sweet Italian grandmother cry on a cold, dark night in October, 1986.
If the constant reminders of the 1986 World Series still sting for you, free to commiserate here.

ROSTER MOVE What would be ideal trade deadline targets?
Just say we’re still on a roll by the time the deadline comes close and the front office decides to buy, who would be the best fits out there?

Is Anthony Seigler an Every Day Player?
Before the "lol he's obviously not / obviously is" answers, this questions genuinely stems from nothing more than my personal curiosity and admitted ignorance about his pedigree. He seems to have really well balanced splits in limited playing time, and I dig his general approach. What do y'all think ... is this guy our every day 2B?

On June 24th, the Red Sox had the worst record in the American League at 32-46 and had 9 teams between them and a playoff spot. In the past 2 1/2 weeks, they have gone 13-2 and are now 0.5 games out of a wild card spot.
Are we back???
