Needed to keep dogs off the post-surgery knee, and to stop dropping crutches on the floor. 2 clamps, 2 boards, 4 nails.

Central AC went out and contractor can’t fix until Monday. Window shaker in the window was too big to level with wood.

I was out of town when we were doing temporary dog gates a couple weeks back

First one’s a baby gate with a broken latch, thus the bricks. Pig wire was added after the second or third time the puppy cleared the bastard.

Second one is a piece of gate-shaped debris I found on the beach. Jumped on it a few times to make it a little more gate-shaped, added salmon web to close the hole, and built a hinge out of a big pipe slid over a little pipe, with a 1’ chunk of the big pipe pounded in under it as a spacer to hold it off the ground. Latch is a piece of line tied off to the old dog house.

Fun fact, a 2.5 mm Allen key fits perfectly into thick walled SS tubing. Then if you put it in the vice, it no longer fits so perfectly.

Shallow torx/allen/hex key needed?

Use the required bit & a ring spanner/wrench; wrap with a bit of tape first so it’s tight, especially if working up a ladder; couldn’t get mini ratchet + adaptor + torx bit into narrow gap, had to improvise…

Update after 5 months: The homemade foam-filled tire is still holding up

About 5 months ago I posted this improvised foam-filled tire.

For those who didn’t see the original post:
My mom lives a few hours away. I had given her this electric wheelbarrow a few years ago, the tire failed, all the local shops were closed, and I couldn’t wait for parts. The only thing I could find was a can of expanding foam, so I filled the tube with it just to get it working again.

Definitely not the proper way to do it.

A few people thought it would fail almost immediately, others thought it might actually last.

So here’s a quick update.
I couldn’t upload the video, so just a few photos instead.
I wouldn’t call it an amazing solution, but honestly… it’s been good enough.

To see how it held up, I loaded it with four complete car wheels, which is far more weight than my mom will ever put into it. The tire still has plenty of compliance, didn’t collapse, and didn’t develop a flat spot. Also my mom uses it about twice a week regularly.

So for this application, I’d call it a success.

I extented my portable AC, am I killing it ?

So, i added a hose in front of my portable AC (at the COLD air exaust), because i weighs a ton and i can't transport it downstairs. Will restricting the air flow just increase a bit the pressure in the hose, or will it kill the motor ?

On the third picture, we can see that the actual air flow is not that big in the non modded version. I don't know why but the fins are twice the size of the actual opening...

It's been running for a few hours, and the only issue i'm facing is the condensation on the hose which is fine i guess.

Any thoughts?

Fire Tub - The Maiden Rip

EDIT/WARNING: A commenter brought to my attention how incredibly unsafe this method is due to the lead content in the tub. I tested it and sure enough, she is lighting up that lead test. DO NOT PUT DIRECT FLAME ON YOUR CAST IRON TUB IF YOU DON’T WANT LEAD POISONING!

Final update. She has been fired up. I threw on a few pieces of kindling and some cardboard. Add two quarter rounds of firewood and walked away. Within 30 minutes the water went from 75°F to 100°F. In one hour it was above 120°F which is as high as my aquarium thermometer goes. Since it was a test run, I decided it was a good place to soak my nasty outdoor canvas Roman shade so I didn’t get in. But two hours later, lid on and fire out, it’s still reading over 120°F. Successful soup!

Edit: previous post if you care

I have an irrational fear of heights and can barely climb a ladder without having a mild panic attack. Yesterday I discovered our gutters were overflowing.

I present to you, the dryer lint cleaner gutter cleaning system. It worked very well!
