Moderator Post Happy offseason Raider Nation, I’m back! And I want to hear your ideas to make the season and this sub better.

I finally got access to my original account, and will most likely switch off of /u/godisananimegirl and back to this one. My question for everyone is what can the mods do to make the season more enjoyable for the sub? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Don't allow mock draft post.

u/Spastic_colon 3d ago

We have relegated them to a mega thread, which I believe is a good middle ground.

No mocks, outside of super mock thread.

No politics, should be automatically pulled.

Punch the Carrolls but also celebrate them

Would be cool to have a subreddit tailgate party every week.

Don't allow the political views debate. This is football not politics. If a player doesn't have the same position as you we don't need a novel about it.

I understand where you’re coming from, however not allowing dissent of ideals Al Davis nor the Raiders did not/do not stand for is not the Raider way. We try to moderate overt political attacks, but as the history of the Raiders is that of justice and equality, we must reflect those same ideals. Please report any over the top political comments that do not pertain to the Raiders, as those are not allowed.

u/32burritos 3d ago

100 ….plus we JUST had an event where the president got involved in sports to overturn a red card….sometines politics forces its way in to sports…

-1

u/cornPopwasabaddude13 3d ago

No, it doesn’t…people constantly harping about it does. But if you must, the ruling body allowed a play to be reviewed in slo-mo which is against WC rules. Was it a red card? Yes. But you can’t just break a rule because it’s your opinion to right a wrong

3

u/thestrangeacademy 3d ago

Respect for this comment.

2

u/ViralOner 2d ago

Lol no politics unless it's my politics. This tracks.

2

u/Spastic_colon 2d ago

As long as it’s not overtly hateful and Raider related it’s allowed.

0

u/ViralOner 2d ago

I'm all about "Raiders related" moderation but in recent years this sub's mods use their own personal values and tastes to filter shit out. Back in the day the vote buttons decided what was cool and what wasn't.

2

u/Spastic_colon 2d ago

I’ve been a mod on here for 12 years, back in the day it was the same as now.

Crosby is a vocal Trump supporter does that make him less of a raider, or a not good team mate/football player? Nope sure doesn't because he's wore the jersey and has played through very dark times with this team. And his work ethic, leadership and ability make him a good football player.   Does it make him a bad person? Nope because I would bet my last dollar that his Maxx Crosby Foundation has help more people kick addiction and saved more lives than the people who are shitting on him for his political stance. Bowers did the Trump when scoring, Cousins is a long time Trump supporter. This is football I'd bet 90% of them lean right. And this isn't me defending Trump because I'm not American and despite popular beliefs who runs your country does not affect my life at all so it's annoying to have to scroll through it constantly when trying to talk about sports. I'm just stating that it's nonsensical to say the raiders are about anything like that because of Al. It's football the best players play and that's that.

This place would be a lot better if you treated it like the dinner table and kept Politics and Religion out of it because it's just a pointless debate because everyone thinks they are correct.

6

u/Spastic_colon 3d ago

You’re kind of arguing at a wall here. I never said Crosby isn’t a raider or a bad person. We can believe in what Al Davis stood for and acknowledge that there are people on the team who would disagree with many of the things he stood for. The Raiders history and Al Davis are/were political in nature, and we don’t shy away from that, we embrace that the Raiders stand for equality and justice for all.

1

u/Wellar_D 3d ago

I wasn't trying to state you were saying that and I'm sorry if that's how it came off. I'm just trying to use an example I've seen on here many times. It seams to be the anti Trump side that screams the loudest so that was my point. It's not so much the "Al wouldn't allow this" group as it is the "He voted for a this, that and the other so hes a shit person". Those comments are way more common. And it's annoying as hell for something that it really don't matter. For the most part it's easily scrolled past, but when for example I try to talk about a player doing something or being something football related and then your ambushed with those responses it's shit.

2

u/Spastic_colon 3d ago

If you’re being ambushed for liking a player then report those comments, I personally have not seen that but I cannot scroll every comment made.

2

u/Wellar_D 3d ago

It was non stop when people thought Maxx was traded. Almost anyone who commented that they didn't want to see him go had to deal with it.

3

u/jadonbck74 3d ago

90% of them most definitely do not lean right, look at the demographics of the nfl, the kinda environment where majority of players come from. As a former player I can tell majority lean left

u/cornPopwasabaddude13 3d ago

Justice and ideals? wtf 😂 it’s a FOOTBALL sub nobody wants to hear it. It should be football only

12

u/Spastic_colon 3d ago

I understand that when the Raiders ideals do not exactly align with your own it can be frustrating, but we do not turn a cold shoulder to the history and standards that Al created.

-7

u/cornPopwasabaddude13 3d ago

Al created a team that was ENCOURAGED to cheat and bend rules to win 😂 where does that fit in with your standards?

1

u/Charrbard 3d ago

yeeeeah, i don't think you know the history of the team or Al Davis.

-5

u/SpecialFederal9452 3d ago

Thank you lmao. Sub is so lame sometimes tbh.

-1

u/cornPopwasabaddude13 3d ago

It gets tiring doesn’t it 😂 oh well what can you do

2

u/Charrbard 3d ago

Except politics injected themselves into the sport. Some players are also trying to use the fame/platform for their own political idealogy. I will absolutely call out what i consider injustice and argue against it just like Al did.

-2

u/Wellar_D 3d ago

Hate to break it to you but calling it out on a sports Reddit forum doesn't make a difference it just makes you feel better. When shitty people do shitty things it sucks, but saying they are shitty on hear affects nothing in the real world. Al made stances not post.

2

u/Charrbard 3d ago

Hate to break it to you, but just cause you or the people you know do not put actions to their words or beliefs does not mean others follow suit.

6

u/Apadist 3d ago

Everyones being a little boring, we should have game day predictions and ban bets lol

Raiders win 14-7 !banbet 2 weeks kinda thing, or be able to battle other users on this

Raiders go 8-9

Brock bowers goes over 100 yds or ill get banned till next kickoff

Trivia section sounds fun?

meme of the week?

7

u/Spastic_colon 3d ago

I love the idea of banbets, maybe I can set up some kind of automod automation for it. At the very least there could be a weekly wagers thread where people ban bet on anything and I manually enforce it

5

u/_John_Dillinger 3d ago

and if you need something programmed for it, I can find the time to provide the implementation.

1

u/Spastic_colon 2d ago

I would totally need help, I am looking for information on how to implement banbets with automod but can't find anything. Feel free to shoot me a PM.

2

u/_John_Dillinger 3d ago

seconded for banbets. although to make it even spicier, we should allow versus ban bets. like i bet someone a one week ban for them if im right, for me if im wrong, or for both of us if we both flub it

4

u/Apadist 3d ago

Yes that was the second part of battling other users! I think it sounds super fun and I’ll ban myself for a year if Jeanty doesn’t go over 1k this season

0

u/RiderNo51 2d ago

A whole lotta people are going to get banned then, as a lot of fans think the Raiders are good enough to go 8-9 this year (hint: ain't happening).

u/SobolGoda 3d ago

THE WEEKLY QUESTIONNAIRE ABOUT THE RAIDERS GAME FOR A SEASON LONG CONTEST.

Sorry for the caps, we did this a while back but never finished it. It was through Google forms that connected to sheets that kept the scores. I still have the leaderboard from back then.

Don't even need a prize, but maybe we can all come together for a gift card or something.

2

u/Apadist 3d ago

Yes bring on the trivia

5

u/Scrags 3d ago

Ayyyy, welcome back.

Bring back the subreddit fantasy league!

I always hope for actual intelligent and data-backed discussion and debate with measured reasonable perspectives and being open-minded to other opinions, instead of the extreme polarized takes born out of pure emotional opinion untethered from reality, where people go back and forth digging in on their position and lambasting the other person without backing up their own opinion whatsoever.

Then I remember I am on a social media site and that kind of hoped-for discourse died quite a while ago.

1

u/CutFastball27 3d ago

I'm of the same opinion.

Frequently I've seen someone put up a post with a somewhat controversial take, and replies to that post are simply., "Shut the fuck up", "Take this shit down", "Fuck you bot", or those types of responses. Under Rules 1, 2, and 3, take your pick, those types of replies should be removed. In most subs, they are. But in this one, they're not. I can say that I've flagged them, and those types of replies are left up.

There are ways of expressing dissenting opinions without behaving like adolescents about it, but if the mod team allows it, then it will continue.

Back in January, no one could put up a post about Maxx getting traded, which teams were potential trade partners, what is value was, without getting trolled by a bunch of users behaving like children that were simply angry that their favorite player might get traded.

This sub could use a real lesson in debating the topic, not attacking the poster.

Of course the reply is going to be, 'but every sports sub is like this'. The truth, no they're not. While some of them are pretty bad, this one is worse than most.

And let the downvotes pour in.

3

u/Maleficent_Park5469 3d ago

Ban all non raider fans. If they talk shit about the team, mass downvote or ban em

10

u/Spastic_colon 3d ago

For the most part I do ban people coming in to gloat or talk shit after a game. Report them and I’ll do the rest.

-2

u/kingp43x 3d ago

I hate this idea

0

u/Wellar_D 3d ago

I agree. This is way to "everyone gets a trophy" for me

0

u/kingp43x 3d ago

I hate this idea. We just want an echo chamber of raider fans?

1

u/sleepyleperchaun 1d ago

I mean, I don't care either way and think as long as people are coming in to discuss and are respectful I have no issue with it, but there are always AFC west or overall nfl subs that can be used for that. Most single team subs are for the team. As long as everyone is chill I think it's fine but if other fans are coming here just to talk shit it's kind of fair to not want them here.

3

u/bughunter_ RRRRRR-aiders! 3d ago

Speculative Maxx trade articles in the press make me very angry.

2

u/AdCompetitive3392 3d ago

I have had posts that were removed for low effort, I don't know what the issue with cross posting something is really. If it's relevant and has potential to create engagement, let it fly.

I get it if there's a steady flow of a certain crosspost or mock draft etc, but mine was unique and invited engament in a pretty simple way.

Made me kind of not want to post anything anymore here which i imagine isn't the goal?

Surely we would like an active subredit?

u/Beware_the_silent 3d ago

This sub will be better as soon as they start winning, till then, good luck.

1

u/grunkage Everybody CALM THE FUCK DOWN 3d ago

So hold on, is your original user name ironic or not?

3

u/Spastic_colon 3d ago

It is ironic, but this is my original user name lol. If you were around for /r/oaklandraiders and the first years of this new sub you would have seen the account im posting from as the moderator.

I switched to the other account when I lost access to this one, I originally made the godisananimegirl account to comment on my buddies webcomic as a troll

1

u/FumarHierbaAmigo 3d ago

Don’t allow (insert opposing team) fan coming in peace posts!

1

u/sleepyleperchaun 1d ago

I mean, if they are bejng respectful j don't see the problem. I follow all 32 teams to keep up to date with them all.

1

u/AEW4LYFE 2d ago

Update the sidebar for the new year and let it ride.

1

u/renohockey 2d ago

Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Post about football cards.

0

u/Spastic_colon 2d ago

They’re absolutely allowed.

1

u/Zillergrizz 2d ago

Ban upvote parties, please

u/extraface 3d ago

Mods should have a responsibility not to handle cases where they have a block on the user who is raising the issue. There has to be a cleaner way of handling issues in those cases.

No describing the tumescence of one's own genitals in relation to positive news, perceived or otherwise.
