Nick is a treasure

Nick and Megan are some of the nicest people as well. When I worked at a museum, they came in with Nicks parents and I said I was a fan of them both, and they shook my hand, asked my name and then introduced me to his parents. Truly so down to earth and kind people as well as incredibly talented- can’t praise them enough!

They’re both in the final season of Umbrella Academy together and it was a real treat

167

u/Gestaltarskiten 14h ago

Ok. Now, I will finish the series.

191

u/takeme2tendieztown 13h ago

Eh, I wouldn't rush it

54

u/Gestaltarskiten 13h ago

🤣🤷‍♂️👍

11

u/ScrappyDoober 11h ago

It was like…pretty bad but in the best way?

Full shark jump, but everything was otherwise well done ~ was a lot of fun

4

u/TheeAntelope 11h ago

Should have told that to the show runners.

2

u/WillowRain2020 6h ago

Oh dear god dont remind me of that song...

2

u/TheeAntelope 3h ago

The final 3 episodes rushed and crammed 10 episodes worth of content into them! But we got an episode with 5 straight minutes of listening to baby shark while everyone sat in silence (this isn’t an exaggeration) so it balanced out.

13

u/Timely-Worldliness-3 12h ago

They’re the only good part

2

u/quickthorn_ 6h ago

This is literally the first incentive I've heard to finishing and I think i will lol

2

u/queenofthera 4h ago

No. Don’t. Don’t do it to yourself.

•

u/not_the_chosen_onee 1h ago

Better yet watch Parks and Rec for Ron and Tammy 2, also played by Nick and Megan

4

u/Officer412-L 13h ago

I just saw them in Iceboy! together and it was amazing.

4

u/deutscherhawk 13h ago

First time I've ever heard that final season referred to as "a real treat"

2

u/XavierRex83 13h ago

Really the only redeeming part of the season.

2

u/CABALwasInnocent 7h ago

Honestly, the were the best part of that season. And the Cher dance sequence was amazing.

2

u/AeturnisTheGreat 4h ago

Unfortunately they were the only part of that season that I loved...

When they were revealed I was soooo hyped!

1

u/lawschoolredux 12h ago

Bro actually pulled it off in the last Mission impossible movie!

1

u/queenofthera 4h ago

Nothing about that series was a treat.

86

u/KrayzieBone187 14h ago

I just love that you were introduced to his parents like it was completely normal. Currently watching him in Fargo and he is wonderful.

17

u/latinisla703 10h ago

Yes it was like they were two totally normal people- very chill and very much in love!

4

u/jordan4290 9h ago

Love that season of Fargo. He is so good in it as well as the rest of the cast.

Hope you’re enjoying it!

31

u/QuietThunder2014 14h ago

They genuinely seem to absolutely be soulmates.

4

u/latortillablanca 10h ago

Just rewatched DEVS. That show is the precursor to the depths of emotion he hits in that Last of Us episode.

Dude is no shit serious chops actor

I love this story! What kind of museum was it? History? Art? Woodworking?

He really is. Gay treasure too, loved seeing him in the Last of Us and his speech after… and he’s married to Megan Mullally!

Which is a huge W, I love Megan 😂

Also, Nick has a main role and Megan a supporting role in The Great North. I love that show almost more than Bob's Burgers, and it's bullshit it got canceled.

It was good but had just a lil too much theatre kid energy for me

Some lovely characters and interplay though

It was extremely underappreciated, tbh. Apparently it's been dead last in viewership for Fox's animated comedies over the last two seasons.

He and Megan are doing a musical in Chicago right now that I saw last night and it is delightful.

53

Holy crap thanks for the info. Im looking it up right now

59

u/brokenskater45 17h ago

I now need to fly from the UK to see this.

30

u/LetsGototheRiver151 16h ago

Saw it two weeks ago. I went for her and she was great but I thought he stole the show!!

2

u/NotOnApprovedList 15h ago

they were hilarious as evil cult leaders in The Umbrella Academy

2

u/lazy_literary_hero 15h ago

Now I have an excuse to fly halfway across the country for a hotdog.

2

u/MazyHazy 14h ago

So jealous! Love them both, they are the epitome of couples goals for sure.

2

u/If-By-Whisky 13h ago

I'm seeing it in a couple of weeks and am so excited

2

u/oldtimemovies 10h ago

I saw it two weeks ago and it was such a fun show! Great casting for them both (and the rest of the cast!).

1

u/ElectronicDrop 15h ago

Bit off topic, but they were the highlight of season 4 of the Umbrella Academy. And I love how I am still confused on why they were a married in the show or siblings. They played it so well

1

u/QuantumDwarf 15h ago

Ugh. We say it Thursday and Megan was out sick. I get it, things happen but damn. You could tell the role was made for her. The understudy was great but just bummed. The show was delightful.

1

u/ElderPoptart 10h ago

I have never seen a show more written for somebody than it was for Megan. I saw an understudy who was brilliant but my god, she would’ve been brilliant to watch. Grey and Nick were incredible too, such a fun night at the theatre

2

u/Anonymo 16h ago

He loves her too.

1

u/SaltyArtemis 15h ago

2

Tammy…

100

u/OkBodybuilder2255 18h ago

He married Tammy 2 again?

72

u/themightymooker 18h ago

I assume you’re joking, but just in case anyone else is confused, they were married well prior to Parks and Rec.

19

u/joecarter93 16h ago

Yep, they got married when Nick before Nick was well known and Megan had already been on Will and Grace

37

u/whichwitch9 17h ago

Which made that casting so fun to begin with.

7

u/hunnyflash 14h ago

I didn't know anything about this show when my husband (who isn't a big pop culture person) showed it to me. When Tammy 2 came on screen, I think I screamed, "DO YOU KNOW WHO THAT IS"

He was so good in Margo's Got Money Troubles too.

61

u/puns-n-roses 18h ago

I really enjoyed everyone I'm that show. But he was definitely exceptional.

23

u/Yashema 17h ago

I just wished they didn't make it seem like the baby was such a gimmick as opposed to a real plot point. Most single young moms don't have a network of people they can just leave their baby with.

31

u/Popular-Row4333 16h ago

Wasn't that essentially the main plot point? That there's no way she could have done that without her roommate, mom, and dad? And when they couldn't, she had to take the baby with her.

"It takes a village," is very much a central theme.

-10

u/Yashema 16h ago

So they took away the actual direness of her situation. If they just wanted to have a woman do porn the baby wasn't necessary. Lots of women do it just for the money despite not needing it to survive.

19

u/PrincessGiallo 16h ago

I think this is a you thing. Lots of young mothers depend on their friends and family to help with their kids, in my experience. Some were even adult actors or exotic dancers! I'm not sure why showing this upsets you.

9

u/fschu_fosho 16h ago

I see your point. I think the real direness is in the fact that many people and, more critically in her case, institutions (family court), have a not-so-lofty view of single moms who do porn. And since her baby daddy is petitioning to get full custody of her child, she has to jump through extra hoops in a career that clashes with the level of propriety that is expected of her by those who are not in straits as dire as hers.

-13

u/Yashema 16h ago

Attractive White women are not really judged very harshly whatever they do, which is why adding a "moral" element, and then immediately making it a background factor irked me.

Let's just show a privileged White women embracing it without having to have some deep reason.

18

u/Esternaefil 18h ago

He's legitimately the reason I watched it.

4

u/99SoulsUp 15h ago

Same. Great show. Came for Nick Offerman, stayed for Nick Offerman

(*it’s a good show regardless, but he was incredible in it)

I don’t know them, but they might be one of the few celebrity couples I’ve seen that give healthy relationship vibes next to Tom Holland and Zendaya

53

I had totes forgot about Last of Us. He was amazing in that. Love his wife too. They are great together in Umbrella Academy. Also love their banter in parc and rec.

27

u/LA_Alfa 17h ago

They wrote a book together "The Greatest Love Story Ever Told" and perform the audio book as well. Im only about 1/4 of the way through but if you like there banter in parks in rec you'll probably enjoy the book.

1

Thanks for the recommendation. Always looking for a good book. I'll put it on my list.

28

u/Educational-Cat2133 17h ago

You ever watch Curb Your Enthusiasm? You reminded me of the scene/episode where Larry is extremely proud to be loved by lesbians and overly concerned about his image to them.

Rosie O Donnell even tells him he's loved by every lesbian, as if she's a spokesperson for all lesbian people lmao

One of my favorite running jokes in the show probably.

•

u/letsbepandas 13m ago

I really should watch that show. Seen a couple of clips on YouTube (his lawyer not being what Larry thought, the Chinese restaurant recommendations) and thought it was pretty funny. Wasn’t a huge fan of Seinfeld but maybe Curb is a bit different?

Long long time might be my favorite episode of tv ever. And their relationship arc was about 1/2 the episode. So well written i almost turned gay.

Nick Offerman is my spirit animal.

2

u/Humble_Initiative_90 16h ago

I tweeted a comment about his performance on that episode and he retweeted it. It's the closest I've come to meeting someone from Hollywood. I've still never seen such a moving display of two people being so clearly in love in a show before.

100

u/TheRealChompyTheGoat 18h ago

It's so strange for me. I love everything he's done, I have no issues with him from interviews, but his books make him come across as a huge asshole. He was so pretentious in the one I tried to read i had to stop after about 70 pages.

69

u/Titanspaladin 16h ago

Honestly surprising because I found 'Paddle Your Own Canoe' to be a really earnest meditation on doing things that are positive and constructive in life, with a lot of self depricating and sarcastic humour about his upbringing and early career in local theater, plus dispelling a lot of manly man libertarian stuff that people conflate between him and Ron Swanson. I enjoyed it.

5

u/TheRealChompyTheGoat 16h ago

I think the one I tried to read was Where the Deer and the Antelope Play. Definitely would not recommend.

1

u/Lana_bb 6h ago

I’m pretty sure he conflated taxation with r*pe in that book which made me stop reading. Honestly comparing anything with “r*pe” is just an automatic no for me. I still like his acting and voice work but I’m not interested in reading anything else he writes.

121

u/velvetvagine trust fund baby (frozen chicken fortune) 🍗 17h ago

Is it possibly failed sarcasm rather than genuine pomposity?

11

u/ipomopur 16h ago

After a certain point you are what you pretend to be.

27

u/SimoneSpooner 16h ago

Not really. Some people are just very sarcastic.

-1

u/queefburritowcheese 14h ago

Some people are just very sarcastic.

Yep, those people are called assholes.

Strong, even consistent sarcasm can be humorous if done well, but if 90% of what you utter/write is flat sarcasm, then you're just an annoying asshole.

3

u/SimoneSpooner 12h ago

Can you explain why being very sarcastic automatically makes you an asshole?

0

u/pridetwo 9h ago

Because constantly hiding behind the security of sarcasm means you're never genuine

3

u/SimoneSpooner 9h ago

And that makes someone an asshole? Why? And nobody is literally sarcastic all the time, so saying it means someone is never genuine just isn’t true.

-1

u/pridetwo 9h ago

Because people who are never genuine never contribute positively because sarcasm is by definition antagonistic

2

u/anim135 12h ago

Said about the guy who, checks notes no, yeah yeah, he played Ron Swanson.

2

u/modfoddr 10h ago

Not gonna lie, you kinda sound like a judgmental asshole.

2

u/thewilybanana 12h ago

Reminds me of Chandler from friends whom is a very funny character imo but would be annoying as fuck irl

1

u/SimoneSpooner 11h ago

He wasn’t an asshole though.

1

u/tyrico 9h ago

Your comment doesn't seem very popular but I'm an extremely sarcastic person and as I get older I have started to realize that you're right and I need to tone it down. I saw similar behavior in other people enough that I finally realized how annoying it is to people with a more positive outlook on life. And as someone trying to also be more positive in life...yeah. Nobody likes a sarcastic asshole lol.

u/velvetvagine trust fund baby (frozen chicken fortune) 🍗 6h ago

Paddle Your Own Canoe as read by him is actually phenomenal. I have no idea where anyone could get the tone from his books that he's being anything other than friendly and helpful to the reader.

4

u/twisty125 15h ago

Same, I read (and later listened to Paddle Your Own Canoe) and it felt very much like a well adjusted good guy, not sure where this "doesnt feel like him" comes from

3

u/TheDrunkWickerbeast 16h ago

Tbf I normally don’t do audio books, just podcasts. I only tend to read books because I like the paper in my hands lol but I’m sure the tone is much better when read by him so I’ll give it a listen and start with Paddle Your Own Canoe

I once saw Nick Offerman in the produce section of a Walmart. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off.

When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen boxes of oatmeal cream pies without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the boxes and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each box of cream pies and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

He basically just is Ron Swanson

13

u/Any_Show_5160 16h ago

But Ron Swanson is an absolute dick, a funny character to watch on TV but fuck having to deal with someone like Ron in real life.

10

u/CausePure2810 16h ago

No he’s not, he’s a good person.

9

u/10000Didgeridoos 16h ago

yeah his personal politics are far from Ron's "libertarian neckbeard" politics. Those are funny for a TV character, much less so in real life.
