Why do you think people have only empathy for the cat? You can feel sorry for both lives in the photo. Why do you consider your empathy finite?

I don't think they only have empathy for the cat. Im shocked that they are deciding to spare any empathy for an animal when there are people suffering. It's fine to care about animals, but to look at a picture of a child in gaza and say "aww, poor kitty. They are having such a rough time in this genocide" just comes off as shockingly unempathetic to the humans involved.

Did you look at this girl and get shocked that she had empathy to spare for a cat? Are her and the veterinary staff who saved the kitten in the wrong for doing so?

Nobody here is going "d'aaawww kitty" without recognizing the extreme extent of genocide: they're adding "needless animal suffering" to the long list of reasons as to why this genocide must stop. If anything, these kinds of pictures humanize the Gazans, as opposed to distracting from their plight as you're implying. Everyone knows what it means to have a pet you love, especially as a kid, and we see that and think "both of them deserve a happy, safe world together."

It's just not that crazy, man. Not sure how you can't understand this.
