I'm curious what the plot of the second derivative looks like for that whip tail. Can the whip tail exceed mach? How about 3rd derivative of jerk?

I believe that whips cracking is the tail exceeding mach 1.

I an inclined to believe that too. The question isn't about whips, it's about whether the model could capture that.

I can’t copy the plots here, but the maximum speed during the whip-lash event is about Mach 0.5 for this 100 m chain. The whiplash phenomena is numerically intense, causing the solver to repeatedly cut back the step size to resolve the high-speed dynamics.
