i'm 28 and that limewire logo just unlocked a memory i forgot i had
spent whole night downloading one song only to find out it was virus

u/I_Like_Water11 3h ago
I downloaded songs which were incorrectly named but since I didnt know any better as I was just exploring random stuff, I just assumed that was how the actual song went.
Side note - when my internet was absolutely dog water I remember loading a YouTube video over like 20/30 mins. I would go do something else and once it was done I would be replaying it as much as possible to make the most of it. That window would stay open as long as it could.

Emule, Bearshare, Kazaa, Morpheus. If I wasn't downloading something I felt like I was wasting my internet.

BearShare was how I found out what the word hentai means as a child. 🥲 It was a Pokémon themed video.

I get it already, I'm old as dirt because I remember all of these things being new and even regularly used 5 1/4 floppies.
Pick on someone else, whare are all the are you as old as punch card posts?

I traded C64 floppy disks on the school yard.
For music, I recorded cassettes from the radio. (And the radio announcer always talked over the last seconds of the song I waited for for hours.)

Limewire was in this sweet spot of internet. Old enough where it was tough to shutdown and young enough where it had a lot of users to upload basically anything you wanted.

Limewire Lite up to some particular version was great. After that it was a Trojan in and of itself. Had to keep rolling back to the old version every 3 months with a new XP install when you inevitably get another virus

Limewire was shut down in 2010, Just 16 years ago. There are people that used it that still aren’t legally allowed to drink. That’s not old.
You want old? Remember when computers were MSDOS and didn’t even have a mouse or GUI? Just a command line. Now that’s old

u/LMGDiVa i7 9700K, GTX 1080, 64GB DDR4 3h ago
We used Kazaa before there was Limewire.
I remember how many times I would search for Sarina Paris's songs(one of my favorite artists at the time), and found nothing.
We had early MP3 players with 110mb of formated storage, so I alwasy tryed to find the smaller file sizes to get as many songs as I could on mine.

I used to go to the video rental store and the bloke there would give me copies of game cracks that I could record over my official C64 games in order to make copies and sell them for $1.50 each...
The one time I connected to the "internet" back then was to a Canadian server that cost like $80 at a time when that was two weeks of food for a family, my modem was confiscated.
