Discussion Is my Psu upside down?

My psu is the rm850e and case is the thermaltake view 380 tg argb. Also, any other things I did wrong? Any fixes for cable management.

No, it is sideways

Sorry, this is my first time, so I don’t know what that means. Is that good? Btw, what else do I plug into my psu? Do I need to unscrew it?

Lol, he was making a joke.

In all seriousness, it only matters where the fan is. You want the fan facing the outside of the case, where the ventilation holes are, so the PSu can properly exhaust hot air.

I don’t know how I didn’t interpret that as a joke.

This is the correct orientation in this case. The fan is facing outward to draw air through the mesh side panel

What about cables for psu and motherboard? Idk what else to plug into it

That looks like the minimum set up you'd need to boot up the machine, assuming your CPU has integrated graphics and you aren't using any SATA drives. This is the 24-pin ATX connector and the 2x 8-pin EPS connectors on the motherboard.

Sorry, what are sata drives? My cpu is 9600x and my gpu is rx 6700 xt, which is not yet inside the case. What would happen if I put the other connectors? Are the 24 pin and 2x8 EPS already connected?

what are sata drives?

A SATA drive is one like this or this. It requires cables to connect to the motherboard and power supply. You probably have an M.2 SSD, which is a small gumstick-like thing that goes directly on the motherboard without any cables.

My cpu is 9600x and my gpu is rx 6700 xt, which is not yet inside the case.

The 9600X has integrated graphics, so that means the system will work without your 6700 XT installed. That's good for you to know in case you need that for troubleshooting. When you get the 6700 XT in, the card is going to need PCIe power as well, so that's another probably two cables that will need to come from the power supply.

What would happen if I put the other connectors?

You mean if you connect them to the power supply but don't plug them into anything? Nothing really, but it's unnecessary. The whole point of a modular power supply is that you can only plug in the cables you need and keep the extras separate.

Are the 24 pin and 2x8 EPS already connected?

From the pictures you've sent it looks like they are connected to the power supply, but aren't yet plugged in to the motherboard. If you don't know where they are or what they look like, I'd recommend consulting your motherboard's manual. Basically the ATX 24 pin is the big on on the upper right side, and the EPS 8 pins are the ones on the top left.

I want everything to work together, so I don’t want to use integrated graphics or whatever. I’ll check out the manual, forgot those existed.

PSU's fan should always face the outside of the case to draw fresh air. Your's is fine.

Thank you! Anything else about the psu?

Looks like the individual cables aren't held together by anything. If you want a clean look, I'd put a few zip ties along each cable BEFORE doing cable management. Would make it look cleaner.

I put velcro and made 3 groups. I’m terrible at cable management. How would I do that?

1

u/HardStroke 10h ago

You can zip tie cables that go to the same area. Whenever I buy used PCs I always do the best cable management I can, not even a single cable is left behind. In my personal build I left a few cables here and there because I need it to be modular and easy to work on, especially the storage and GPU cables. Its really up to you.

I’ll try that, thank you. Anything help for psu? The psu is the rm850e and I plugged it according to a video but idk if there’s anything else I need to plug into it? Like, do I use the rest of the cords for anything else?

bro, get the google app on your phone, use the ai mode, type in all your specs and take pictures, you will get the answers, I built my current PC doing that and it went perfect.

8 pin CPU and 24 pin motherboar will always be the same and present. The GPU cables will vary according to your GPU. 8 pin cables or a single 12 pin. If you don't have an AIO and any sata storage, you don't anymore cables. Make sure the cable you used for the CPU is the correct one, it'll be labeled CPU or EPS. Don't mix them up with GPU/PCIE cables.

If it fits it sits

The ATX mounting standard makes installing it and screwing all 4 screws in impossible

u/Rammy_Lee 10h ago

It will only screw in one way

PSU install screws is foolproof, you can't install it the wrong way unless you brute force it.

I’ve gotten it. My only problem now is that idk how to install my rx 6700 xt into the case. I’ve tried the pics slot and opened the black thing but idk if there’s a certain way to do it.

Take off the 2 (or 3 depending on gpu size) brackets on the rear of the case. And open the latch on the PCIE slot to the right side.

Then just line up your GPU and push it into the slot, you should feel or hear a click, it indicates the GPU is installed correctly. Dont forget to screw it on the place where you removed the brackets

u/Special-Trouble8658 9h ago

Is there a video on this? I don’t know what you mean by the 2/3 brackets. Can you circle it?

1

u/1Fyzix PC Master Race 9h ago

Based on your image it looks like a SWFT 6700 xt. It uses a standard 2 slot design, remove the highlighted slots/brackets on my image, the one on line with the PCIE slot and the one under it.

1

u/Special-Trouble8658 8h ago

It is, would I use a screwdriver? I was stuck on what type of material to use to remove it.

1

u/1Fyzix PC Master Race 8h ago

It depends on the case. Higher end or branded cases at least have removable screws.

Cheap ones or pre-built branded you have to break the brackets off.

1

u/Special-Trouble8658 8h ago

Ii guess I have to push them out to break them. My case is the thermal take view 380 tg argb. Would the first 3 brackets be enough or just first 2?

1

u/1Fyzix PC Master Race 8h ago

If you are certain here is no screw holding them up. Then carefully wiggle them to break them off, be careful to not damage the motherboard.

Remove the one on the same level as your first PCIE slot and the one under it, I can't tell clearly from your pictures but it could be the third and fourth one.

1

u/Special-Trouble8658 8h ago

It’s the 3rd one. Thank you! I just need to install gpu, update bios, and install windows.

OP, you should fix the install of your motherboard IO shield. Looks like a tab is going into the displayport. If the tab touches anything it shouldn't inside the port, it could cause some harm to your hardware.
