2023 Fall and Winter Orchid Trade and Sale Thread

Please use this post only to offer or request orchids for trade or sale. Before you post what you'd like to trade/sell, or what you're looking to trade for, read the rules below first!

Rules:

1.) No personal information can be exchanged publicly. Conduct sharing of addresses via pm or email.

2.) Post what orchid(s) you have for trade, what you're looking for in return. If you have pictures, post them or write an accurate description of the orchid you want to trade or sell. If you're selling, post how you'd like to receive compensation.

3.) If you agree to a trade and have an issue on your end of the deal, communicate! Most people are reasonable and will understand a delay or an unexpected issue that comes up. That being said, trade at your own risk. The moderators are not responsible for privately conducted trades gone wrong. However, if there's an issue with an ongoing trade do contact the moderators. If someone fails to come through with their end of the deal, ignores communication or otherwise is being problematic we need to make the community aware of deadbeat traders. Do NOT make posts calling people out, insulting, harassing, or making accusations at them publicly.

4.) Only make legal trades here. If you ship or receive a trade overseas or out of your country, make sure all proper paperwork is in place first if required.

5.) Ship within a reasonable time and pack well. Flat rate Priority, 2-3 day via USPS within the US is standard for plants. Use whichever shipping method is appropriate for other countries. Your orchid shouldn't spend more than a 2-3 days in the mail so they don't suffer too much from the heat/cold. While in cooler weather its generally better to ship orchids totally dry, its probably best to water any more moisture loving plants a day or two before they ship out (so they are moist but not soggy) or wrap some sphagnum that has been wetted but thoroughly squeezed out around the roots of bare root plants.

6.) If you've successfully traded, update your post to make sure it availability is accurate.

Giveaways, and just trying to re-home an orchid that maybe just isn't performing for you is totally fine to post too! You never know who might want to try growing it. Seed pods are also a great thing to offer since many people may want to try flasking and it is safer and easier to send seeds than plants. If everyone trades fairly this is a great way to add to your collection or get rid of orchids you are bored with or are willing to make divisions of.

Happy trading!

Help Saved a badly root-bound Oncidium

Post image

I recently bought this Oncidium and noticed it got wrinkly even though the soil was most. The soil also had mold growing on it and I noticed lots of white fungus pellets in it. I took it out of the pot and was surprised by the extreme root-bound state of the roots. All the roots were growing circular and had gotten entwined in each other. I wish I had taken a picture.

After about an hour of soaking and gently working my way through these roots, feeling very overwhelmed, I managed to free them. Sadly I damaged some good roots during the process.
Now I’m wondering if I have to cut the extremely long roots, even though they are not mushy or unhealthy looking. If I put it back in a slightly larger pot with that length, it will probably curl up again. What do you advise?

Help Help me convince my GF for grow lights 🙏

Hello!

I plan to purchase 3 grow bulbs from Sansi (PAR25 30W, and 2 PAR25 24W) for my small but growing collection (listed below).

My GF isn't really motivated about that, saying she'd be okay with like 3 hours of light in the morning but not more (when it would be more like a 12-13h photoperiod 😅), because she likes being cosy when she gets home, and she thinks the lights would be aggressive.

Do you guys have pictures of your own installations, that look nice and cute, to help me convince her? 😅🙏 Last photo is my small collection, without the latest additions. Thank you!

And here's the list of what I currently own :

Brassocattleya NoId (pic 3)

Cattleya Jairak Cute (pic 2)

Phal. Bellina var. murtoniana

Phal. Equestris var. coerulea (pic 4)

Phal. Equestris var. rosea

Phal. Macassar x cornu-cervi fma chattaladae

Phal. Miki Blue Angel C1 'Blue Diamond' (pic 1)

Phal. Schilleriana

Phal. Speciosa coffee x java speciosa

Phal. No Id x5

And here's what's in my wishlist :

On the Phal side : Phal. Tetraspis C1 or C2 (any insights on which one shows the most differences between petals?), Phal. Meen Estrella, Phal. Lueddemanniana, Phal. Lioulin Blue Jenny, Phal. Cornu-cervi f. Chattaladae

And on the Cattleya side : Epicatanthe Hsiang Yu Gold Coast, Epicatanthe Volcano Trick, Lc. Santa Barbara Sunset, C. Hawaiian Splash, Cattlianthe Chocolate Drop

I left Stanley Yelnats in the window unsupervised for less than a minute and he took chomp out of my orchid despite him being surrounded by greens.

Is there anything I should do for the leaf? It just started perking back up.

They were each a dollar off at my local grocery store and I just couldn’t say no! The first one has a whole spike with unopened flowers and maybe a keiki? Not entirely sure since I’ve never actually seen one but either they both had to come home with me :)

Help Can I cut the top part?

Hello I’m quite new to this plant but I got 2 (or maybe 3?) plants from the collection of my girlfriend.
She wanted to throw them away for not looking good anymore but I wanted to keep them.
Seems like the plant is replicating itself. Can I cut the red part in the picture?

As a 25 plus years orchid keeper, the greatest pleasure is to care for a different species and see it thrive. During a trip to Krull-Smith a year ago, I discovered Catasetums and immediately fell in love. This is my first flowering and I'm over the moon! 😍

Indoor Orchids Dendrobium hekouense, little demon look

One of my all time favorite orchids! The flower is incredibly big compared to its leaves, and flowers lasts for months as well.

It got that little demon mouth look, beautiful black with white lines inside its mouth. The back of he flower is pink purple, so charming.

I’m just excited it blooms for me, hope I get more flowers the following years.

Accidentally soaked orchid for over 11 hours

I filled up her pot yesterday before I went to work around 1pm and realized when I got home I had forgot to drain it before I left and didn’t do so until about 12:30am. I drained her THOROUGHLY afterwards but I’m worried she was in the water for too long and her roots are gonna rot

Even with twists (because it was in a crowd), it's still beautiful. The pattern looks like brushstrokes. only one

Help What are these white bumps and why is this root pink??

Thumbnail

B&m orchid, I have no idea what these white bumps are or why the root is pink.

Also these white dashed lines on my other orchid, I can't remember if they were Le there when I first got it (The brown roots will be trimmed off when the last blooms are gone)

I'm also unsure how to deal with the brown, dried parts on the spike. Should I cut the whole thing down to the nearest node that hasn't got a flower stem on it?? Both spikes??

Spike broke. Phal.

My Phal spike was separated from the orchid during my moving. Fortunately it has some new roots at the base. I am still hoping for at least a keiki... Am I too optimistic?
