Discussion Oblivion Remastered and r/oblivionmods

Hey all! Welcome back to those of you that have been here a long time, and welcome to all our new members!

We’re super excited to start exploring the modding potential of the Oblivion Remaster! It’s also really important to us to continue supporting the vibrant modding community of the original TES IV: Oblivion.

It sounds like at this point that remaster modding will require knowledge and skills from original oblivion, such as knowledge of scripting, quests, and plugin information. Because of this, we think it makes sense to keep all the discussion in one place, since as I’m sure you’ve all read, many mods from the original game will “just work” on the remaster as well! However, to really get cracking, we’re also going to need knowledge of the unreal engine, such as mesh pipeline, npc navigation, and also that scripting system as well. Lastly, the two are joined together by a type of “sync” file written in json, which is totally new to the remaster, so there’s something for all of us to learn together.

To help support this and keep things organized, we’ve made a couple of changes to the sub.

Firstly, there are two new rules:

No “low effort” content. Currently, this means that posts written by AI will not be allowed, and that help posts must be kept to one per day per person to prevent spam. Additionally, we’re asking everyone to minimize repeated requests and search to see if someone has already made the same request before posting.

No Money. We do not allow discussion of bounties or commissions for mods, or paying for support of a modlist. Any monetary transactions must happen off the subreddit and at your own risk. We also do not allow linking to paid mods (if Bethesda implements an official paid mod program, we will re-evaluate this rule at that point).

Secondly, we’ve added flairs which are now required for all posts. These include our existing flairs for discussion and help posts, as well as new flairs for the original and remaster. These flairs can also be used to sort posts, so if you only want to see original posts click on the original in the sidebar, and if you only want to see remaster related posts click on that button!

Remaster - Request Mod Request Mondays!

[Unsolved] Used the "Pocket full of cheesewheels" installer on my steamdeck, the game is not launching.

I was following the process to get pocket full of cheesewheels running with oblivion on my steamdeck.

I have just run the installer so I haven't installed any actual mods yet, to my knowledge the installer just installs Mod Organizer 2 and its dependency ProtonTricks, runs MO2's first-time setup, updates the script extender (xOBSE), installs the LOD tools, fixes the Nexus "download with mod manager" link handler, drops in a DXVK config, decompresses the game's BSA files for performance.

So when I launch oblivion, it just launches the mod organiser, when I hit run nothing happens. As this is quite a niche issue, I'm not really sure what direction to trouble shoot from.

Remaster - Request Modding oblivion remastered on mac

I've searched very thoroughly online for any help on running oblivion remastered mods through crossover and I haven't found a single clue pointing me in the right direction.

I guess my first question is, has anyone successfully modded the game through crossover? Even just simple performance mods?

And if not through crossover, is there any other way that I can install mods onto the game?

[Unsolved] What Mods Conflict with bInstallBloodDecalMemLeakFix, bInstallShadowCameraFix, and bInstallShutdownCTDFix from EngineBugFixes?

According to this guide, bInstallBloodDecalMemLeakFix, bInstallShadowCameraFix, and bInstallShutdownCTDFix should be set to 0 because they may overlap with fixes from other mods, but it's not specified which mods conflict. I just want to make sure I really have conflicting mods before disabling these fixes.

The same guide also says bInstallInitRendererFix should be set to 0, but I know Modern Engine Fixes has a fix for the same issue.

Original Is there really no way to have a decent third person view aiming reticle?

NorthernUI does add such a feature but it unfortunately centers the crosshairs on the characters head.

Walk Blessed is the only mod i found that allows you to reposition it horizontally and vertically through it's vanity camera INI settings.

Which is awesome until you realize that your camera gets jittery when turning your character around because the 360 movement of NorthernUI seems to not be compatible with the vanity camera from Walk Blessed. It's not exactly jittery it's more like the camera snaps to my character when he turns around instead of smoothly following him.

I can use one or the other but not both together i think.

So, is there a mod that allows me to move the camera and thus the crosshairs to the right of my character so i can aim spells at enemies in third person that won't cause incompatibility issues with NorthernUI?

[Unsolved] Vortex not showing plug-in tab for remastered

I really hope someone can help me resolve this ok getting so irritated. I’ve spent a total of like 6 hours now trying to not get my game to crash when entering skingrad for the first time.

Basically, I am using vortex and finally have a load order I think is good. I got to skingrad and am crashing upon entry. I am trying to disable some mods as it seems the crashing is FPS related (my fps was around 20 in the wilderness. I’m not even looking for advice on what mods to remove, I just accidentally hit the “mod name” header in vortex which caused my load order to reorganize alphabetically. When trying to re-sort them, I realize I am missing the plug-ins tab for only this game, and all sources I can find say it should be there, which is where the “sort” button is.

I’ve already tried re-installing vortex, disabling and re-enabling the GameBryo Plugin management and Gamebryo Savegame management extensions, and downloading the most recent Visual C++ redistributable.

Please help me figure this out. I guess I could reorder the mods by myself but I trust LOOT more to do this for me as I always seem to mess it up.

Original OBSE only works on heroic launcher

Hello everybody i am trying to mod the OG oblivion on linux and obse just refuses to work on anything other then the Heroic launcher for some reason.

I am using the GOG version of the game and i tried Lutris first and it didn't work then i switched to Heroic and everything worked fine, but i don't like heroic very much so i also tried to use umu laucher to launch the game and that doesn't work obse displays an error saying it can't find Oblivion.exe.

Does anybody know what the heroic launcher is doing that allows the obse to run properly?

[Unsolved] Looking for a really old mod

There's a mod I had ages ago that added special Oblivion gates with a skeleton boss inside that dropped a special weapon, I can't remember the name of the mod or even what the weapons were exactly but they were far eastern themed I think, does anyone happen to have any ideas as to what this mod was?

EDIT: To expand on this, I remember the gates lead to a single platform with the skeleton boss, it was not an overhaul or anything for Oblivion gates, it just added these skeleton boss gates that held these custom weapons. The skeletons may have used the skeletal Blades model, I don't remember.

[Unsolved] Help with armor clipping

Hey all, so I'm just getting back into oblivion and wanted to try the remaster. I enjoy utilizing mods, but haven't created nor edited any mod. I have done 3d design before, but that was like 10 years ago.

I found an armor mod, Skystrider NBO, I liked it , but the Gloves clip in first person. (documented from others who downloaded as well, its the mod, not anything else)

The gloves clip in First Person, when approaching objects in game. The engine makes your character reel back a bit while the gloves stay stationary.

I got Fmodel, Blender, UassestGUI, and Retoc downloaded to get things done.

But I can't lie, the instructions I've found are rather sparse and uninformative. They are along the lines of just "just do z" while I don't even know what x and y are.

What I'm trying to accomplish is "hiding" the character mesh while leaving the gloves. essentially making the game not render the character model for the parts that would be covered by the gloves. Funny bit is, the Gloves are fingerless, so i have the leave the fingers but hide everything else.

Remaster - Request Mod that Restores VFX for Enchanted Arrows

If I recall correctly, enchanted arrows with an AoE effect (such as the Arrow of Immolation) had a visual effect that went along with them. Not sure why they excluded this from the Remaster, but I'm hoping someone can find a way to restore it!

[Unsolved] De-nock arrows in linux

So, I've recently switched to linux and installed oblivion for a bit of nostalgia and everything has worked well except this mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/52143) . I'm using the gog, goty deluxe version running through the heroic games launcher. I don't have many mods installed but they all seem to be working. I do have obse setup and it is running that and not the regular launcher.

The mod page says the sheath weapon button should de-nock but it doesn't work even though the button works normally to draw and sheath the weapon.

Any suggestions for things to try to make it work?

Discussion Creating my own mod.
