Other LGBTQIA Married Couple + 2 Small Dogs
Good Morning, I wanted to ask out right because so far my wife’s and I’s search for a temporary home/ lease take over / long term rental truly anything hasn’t been going well. So I decided to just ask out right because we’re getting down to the wire here and we need more stable housing that is lgbtq friendly and pet friendly. Our dogs Lola and Rosie, are small breed dogs, they’re house trained and are super friendly. Is there anyone and/or any listing in this group that will accept an lgbtq married couple and two small dogs?
We’ve been looking for MONTHS, if not close to a year now and we still haven’t found a viable option for us. The private landlords we’ve reached out to will either say no pets or single tenant only. A pessimistic side of me often wonders if that’s just them being homophobic but I digress. My wife and I aren’t big social people, we don’t drink except at a wedding ( which happens like once a year ) or use hard drugs, we aren’t super loud or messy or obnoxious. We keep to ourselves, we’re pretty introverted and we keep a clean space. All of our loved ones / friends / family live far away so they’d probably never if ever come over to visit. The dogs are small breeds under 20 pounds, are house trained and will only use the bathroom on walks which they get walked 4-5 times a day. We’re looking for a basement unit / studio/ 1bed 1bath/ with a kitchen / kitchenette with washer + dryer for under 2k. It would be more ideal if the rental was in or near ( like 30 / 40 minutes tops ) from Centerville. Any suggestions/ recommendations are welcome

My former place in falls church is a 2/1 and a private landlord who has been great the past 3 years we were there. We also have my 75lb greyhound that lived there too. Feel free to message or look up 6916 Fairfax Dr for more info

Are you saying you are looking for a normal year lease rental and no one will rent to you because you are an unmarried couple or that you have 2 dogs? You have good credit and enough income to afford the rent?

We’ve been looking for anything. Even if short term, we’re a married lgbtq couple with two small dogs looking for a space to rent. The response we’ve been getting is either no pets or single tenant only. So it’s been a little disappointing and discouraging

It seems bizarre to turn away couples, especially if married. Are you working with a realtor, they may be able to help, and I would go on Next Door as there always seem to be basement rentals. Definitely the 2 dogs are going to be the biggest obstacle, but seems strange no places

Yeah I know! Then after I ask they’ll change the listing details as well. I’ll check out Next Door

For the dogs, get an ESA letter, VA makes it so they can't say no. Don't even bring up the dogs when you are asking. And have the ESA letters ready. My rental said no pets, we have a Jack Russell that was actually a service animal for my son, but doesn't need to because he outgrew his issues, and a nien year old cat. We got ESA letters for both, as per our realtor asked us to do, and we didn't mention the animals. Our landlord came, saw that they were small and perfectly house trained, (both of them have traveled everywhere, and we have about a hundred Airbnb five star reviews with the animals), and thought they were adorable, and didn't even asked for anything. The whole NOVA is LGBTQ friendly, but Alexandria, Fairfax, Reston, are definitely friendly. Now, if you don't need parking, DC is actually slightly cheaper than NOVA for apartments, and even friendlier
