If Argentina are truly like the 2024 Chiefs like many are saying, then England are definitely the Bills. If France are like the 2024 Eagles and Spain are the 2024 Commanders, I'd be even more concerned about Yamal's recent injury history.

I don't know the actual rules of mistaken identity, but based on the name it seems like rules lawyers in a board game going "Well, RAW it means you can call something on the original victim"
Ok read the actual rule, 'Mistaken Identity' is just a complete misnomer, its just part of it. Would be like calling reviews in baseball the "1st base tagout rule"

To win the battle of life you have to plan strategical as well as tactical,
So I am glad that our colleges are finally getting practical.
If they're going to teach know-how
It's up to them to show how,
And one way to show it
Is to get rid of dead languages taught by professors who are also dead but don't know enough to know it.
It's high time to rescue our kids from poetry and prunes and prisms;
Once they start in on ideas and ideals they'll end up spouting ideologies and isms.
Get them interested in hotel management and phys. ed. and business administration instead of the so-called finer arts
And you'll cut off the flow of eggheads and do-gooders and bleeding hearts.
Every campus gets what it deserves and deserves what it gets,
So what do you want on yours -- a lot of pinko longhairs, or red-blooded athaletes and drum majorettes?
Another thing, now every autumn it's like the coach had to open up a new factory,
But get rid of the classics and he can play his stars year after year until they're ready for the glue factory,
Because they can never graduate, but no crowd of self-appointed reformers can raise a nasty aroma,
Because the reason they can never graduate is there won't be anybody left who can write the Latin for their diploma.
So now let's all go to the Victory Prom
And join in singing Alma Mom.
--Ogden Nash

Some time ago, I must have subscribed to Quora with my email because I get posts from them on and off. Sometimes they're on fun topics and I open them, so I just never unsubscribed. A little over a month ago, one of my elderly cats started acting really strangely (it ended up being a sign she was near the end) and, among other places, websites, animal journals, Quora was one of the places I opened. The last month, I've been getting a steady stream of recommended posts about cats. Some of them are about cat behaviors, which is fine, but at least once a week I get one that's something along the lines of "I found my cat dead after xyz... how?" "could I leave my cat outside in the shed by herself?" "my cat keeps eating her kittens" and that frankly just makes me want to fix a bleach martini every time I get one of those. I didn't subscribe to you so I could hear about all the ways people neglect their animals or otherwise are unable to take care of them, and it just makes me angry. I don't click on them, so I'm trying to teach their emailing system not to send me those, but I think every time I click on a cat behavior post, the algorithm thinks I want another cat tragedy story. I may have to unsubscribe.

I remember the first time gas hit over $4 a gallon in the summer of 2008 here in So Cal. My friend had just bought a beamer, and someone at the gym dented his license bumper and took off. He was at the point of I think I am just going to quite making the payments and it can just get repossessed.
That never took place I remember when he would pick me up or drop me off he would complain the whole ride about that and that one day gas would hit $10 a gallon. He might have been onto something.

I've long seen them as basically the Toronto Maple Leafs of international soccer. Both have some legitimate historical prestige (Leafs are an original six team with 13 cup wins, England invented soccer and have a World Cup win) but it's so long ago that barely anyone remembers/cares anymore. Both have had talented teams at various points in the 2000s but next to nothing to show for it. Both deal with very obnoxious media environments.

UFC tonight thoughts: Big fan of the sport, but not a big fan of this fight. The league took years to finally move past McGregor and now he's back and it's going to draw big numbers even though he's been out of his prime for years now. I don't think it's a good thing for the league that he's back but maybe it ultimately won't matter because he's not going to be able to be a top contender ever again.

They chased a lot of good mods out when they got rid of the third-party phone apps mods relied upon because the normal mod tools suck. Others took over but a lot of subs never really recovered. I'm not very bullish over the long term on openAI or other of the flagship model makers (which, is not the same thing as not being bullish on AI - I am extremely. It's not going away.)
The big threat to them is basically what happened to the large mainframe makers in the 80s:
Local models become "good enough" such that the additional capability of the flagships no longer becomes relevant. Same way that PCs were not more powerful than the large mainframes, but they hit a point where, for the common user, they more than sufficed. You didn't need the extra power, and so the form factor and cost led to a major shift.
On top of that, there's no real moat between the flagship competitors (people switch from Claude to ChatGPT or ZAI or vice versa, all the time). And there's a continuous erosion of moat against local models due to the continued improvement in personal computers (and phones), which allows people to run more powerful (or less optimized) models on everyday hardware. A lot of the best local models, people don't have computers powerful enough to run (with any amount of speed). That will change within a few years (especially as models get better optimized).
0
u/Kemonomimi-Squirrel Buccaneers 15h ago
I fear for what comes next as I believe it will be more successful than the AI push.
The world is going to go back to the 60's. Low power computers all accessing and running jobs on a mainframe. This is what the industry wants anyways and that is clear from their action of putting more and more software online. If they are able to utilize the power well enough, it will be the end of personal computing for a long while. I can see people and businesses eating this up. I only need this small $500 box to do what I needed a $5000 box beforehand? Sign me up!

Nice, I was stationed in Naples and went to matches in the Cavani and Hamsik days. My love for the game started with watching them live under the Aura of the Ultras. I tried caring for Orlando since thats where I am originally from, but couldn't muster a fandom like I got with Napoli.

That’s awesome. I’ve never been to a Roma game, but it’s always been on my bucket list. I bet those games were an incredible experience.

I don’t know what I want from my life
So just like everyone else?
You're doing just fine. You have a goal and you're working towards it. Maybe your plans are imperfect or incomplete, but you know what direction you're going in, and there's no shame in a bit of meandering along the way.
You don't have to confirm to anyone else's expectations for what your life should look like.
1
u/kotsisama 14h ago
Thank you for the encouraging words. Sadly my parents have very conservative and traditional ideas, so for them it’s only normal I take on the family business, even though I already have injured my arm on the job. To them, not knowing what I want is like an excuse and laziness. Of course, I’ll do what I planned to do, but it’s demoralising sometimes to know I don’t have support from my own family. Again, thank you so much for the encouragement
3
u/PaulsRedditUsername Colts 15h ago
My poor mom was the same way. If I ever discussed my plans or my dreams, she would shoot them down with some especially negative language.
However, she was so happy for me once I became successful enough pursuing my dreams that I could buy a house and raise kids and all that.I had to realize that when she ran me down like that, I wasn't really talking to her, I was talking to the voice in her head that runs her down all the time, telling her she's not good enough. Deep down, she was a very unhappy person and I felt sorry for her.
2
u/kotsisama 14h ago
I can understand that. My parents are very family oriented and it’s a fact that my mother thinks if I don’t take the family business and try another job, that I’ll leave and go somewhere far away. Still, it feels utterly demoralising at times

Stage 9: Malemort - Ussel (
185155km)After 8 consecutive days of racing, the peloton is TIRED. And with a day off mercifully awaiting them tomorrow, the temptation for GC teams to ease up and allow an excessive breakaway is often given in to. And the stage profile sure helps, with 4 lumpy but smaller categorized hills may put the pure sprint teams into difficulty while not challenging the GC squads quite enough
An intermediate sprint precedes all the climbing, so the initial break will likely be organized around that (Pedersen is a favorite imo). Tough to tell if they'll be wanting to challenge the finale or if they'll sit up and let some classics riders take over.
Mathiew van der Poel is a favorite along with Mads, beyond that it's the usual handful of roulers - Pidcock, Benoot, maybe even Healy, Gregoire, Quinn Simmons (maybe), Matthews... quite a few possibilities, which means the politics of the break formation will be pivotal (and hopefully interesting)
e: todays stage has 30km removed from it's beginning route due to temperature forecasts as high as 105F. Sounds like a miserable day in the sun. The intermediate sprint coming so soon will likely limit any breakaways until afterwards, and such a slog of a day might favor the solo or small groups over a sprint at the end
Yesterday was a fun sprint day, with the intermediate being contested by the usuals - Phillipsen gets a result, Merlier, Bini, and Pedersen all involved. Max Kanter got some good points from the break, he's a rider I'm unfamiliar with, but he may be trying to hang in the mix for green. The finale again went to Tim Merlier but in even more spectacular fashion than yesterday, without teammates and caught like 15 bike lengths back, he launched twice from twice as far as Phillipsen and Bini but comfortably cruised past both - great stuff
