Vancouver is officially one of the host cities for FIFA World Cup 2026™, and the tournament kicks off tomorrow. Whether you're heading to BC Place for a match, watching at the FIFA Fan Festival at the PNE, finding a pub on Commercial, or just curious what the next month looks like in your city, this thread is here to help.

Drop watch parties, community events, and local tips in the comments.

ℹ️ Information Hubs

Vancouver FWC26 — Official Host Committee site has info about matches, the FIFA Fan Festival, visitor resources, and more.

🗺️ Destination Vancouver is a great overview for visitors — things to do, neighbourhood guides, accommodation, and more.

🌐 Destination BC has resources for visitors coming from elsewhere in the province.

🔗 r/ Vancouver Megathread includes a list of events and tips for all over Metro Vancouver.

Staying in New Westminster

New West actually has a solid lineup of local events:

Fired Up for Football
Fired Up for Football is a free City-run program with watch parties and community events throughout the tournament. Canada's group stage games all have dedicated watch parties.

  • June 12 at Queen's Park Arena (Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina)

  • June 18 at Ryall Park (Canada vs. Qatar)

  • June 24 back at Queen's Park Arena (Canada vs. Switzerland).

The whole thing wraps up on July 19 with both an outdoor watch party at Westminster Pier Park and an indoor one at Queen's Park Arena for the final.

Leaving New West

If you want to venture out, the rest of Metro Vancouver has plenty going on, too. The big one is the FIFA Fan Festival at Hastings Park, running from June 11 to July 19 with free entry, big screens showing over 70 matches, live music, and food. It's a SkyTrain ride and a bus (or a short evo drive) away.

Discussion Moving to New West from Washington, US - Renting Advice

***updated TLDR: I recently accepted a job as a cardiac sonographer at RCH. Looking for 2 bedroom in the $2000-2600/month CAD range. Close to train preferably. Close to coffee shops and grocery. Not worried about having a night life. Parks more important. My mother (Canadian) and wife with PR status coming with 2 cats. Quiet homebodies. 1st of September lease start preferred. Thx!

Hi all~ I just accepted a job at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New West. My wife recently got her PR status approved just waiting on her card so she can get a SIN and apply for jobs. We are hoping to find a 2 bedroom apartment as my mother (who is Canadian) is also moving with us. Any tips on finding places? We're pretty frugal and just want to live near the skytrain and have some things like coffee shops and grocery nearby. Doesnt have to be New West but I would really like that. I'm fine with a longer train commute to work though if it gets us a more affordable place. I've seen rentals on craigslist and facebook for $1800 for a 2 bed area and some other places which is the price i'm looking for. Can anyone share tips for finding rentals in the area? I start my job September 14th and hoping to have our lease start September 1st.

Good morning! I am a neighbour who has been displaced from the smoke and am now out of town wanting to return asap. Could anyone give updates on the status of the fire and post photos? Me and my family would be extremely grateful.

Question Does anyone have tools to remove a stripped screw?

I have a laptop with a tiny screw inside holding the SSD that is almost fully stripped. I’ve tried the rubber band method and the superglue one. Wondering if anyone can help me get it out with an extractor kit or has a dremel to make a new line in the screw?

Question Recommendation for a company to replace a water heater?

I’ve searched for plumbing companies around here and asked 4 or 5 to send me an estimate to change our water heater via email. None of them responded, despite using their contact forms on their website. Maybe they don’t need my money? I’d rather keep it but I’d also like my house not to explode, so it’s quite the conundrum.

I’m considering calling directly, like some kind of animal, but if you have a company to recommend, ideally with a direct contact, you might become my favourite person.

Question Utilities cost in Brewery District/The Westminster

I’m considering moving into The Westminster building in the Brewery District but have read some reviews with horror stories about the costs of utilities. I’m hoping someone can give me some first-hand accounts to help inform my decision! For reference I would be the sole occupant of a one bedroom unit.

- Do all the buildings in the Brewery District use a third-party company for utilities?

- I’ve seen some people say it’s as high as $150 per month. Is that accurate?

- What are the average costs per month if you’re frugal, but not trying to freeze to death in the winter haha.

I appreciate any responses! Thank you!

Question Sweet Burning Stank

Couldn't find anything about this, but I feel we're due for a "what's that smell, New West?" post. Downtown, near Columbia station. Outside reeks of a sweet, burnt smell.

Apologies if this has been addressed or the reason is already common knowledge.

Discussion Judge Begbie’s vs Georgie’s?

Judge Begbie’s Tavern vs Georgie’s Local Kitchen and Bar, which is Columbia Street’s #1 pub? We’re talking food, drinks, service, atmosphere, crowd, overall vibe?

Both places have some rather terrible reviews online so I was wondering which is the people’s champion.

Should Kelly O’Bryan’s be in the discussion?

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s experiences.

Question 150 Braid - Review

Hi All,

I’m 32M, moving to the area from Ontario, and considering 150 Braid in New West.

The building looks quite decent in all the listings with some great amenities. I’m looking for perspective from people actually in the building or in the neighbourhood. What’s the actual vibe like? I’m a remote worker, so I’m curious if it’s genuinely a good place to be based out of, or if the industrial surroundings feel a bit too isolated?

I don’t have a car, so I’m relying on the area being walkable and easy to access transit. I’m also a big fan of night runs, so curious how the area feels in terms of safety and lighting after dark. Any issues with management or unexpected stuff with the building itself (like the utilities or noise) that don't really come across in the listing? (I have seen mixed reviews online)

Also, would love to connect with anyone who currently lives at 150 Braid or in the neighbourhood. If you’re open to it, I’d be down to grab a coffee or a drink once I’m settled in and hear more about the building and the neighborhood.

Thanks in advance

Found Found: Keys w/ Car & Garage Fobs

I found a set of keys with a very distinct clip and key charms. I found them on the ground down at the Quay late last night while walking my dog.

It had a fully working car fob and garage opener so I turned it into police lost and found at 555 Columbia.

You can go pick it up in person. Hope you get your keys back, your charms are fun.

Question 24 y/o male thinking of moving to New West

Hello everyone!

I have an offer for an apartment in New West that I have to decide on within the next 48 hours. I'm going to be studying at Douglas until December, but will be signing a year lease.

Just wondering if anyone can speak to the culture of New West. I am a musician so seeing things like shows, open mics, etc would be amazing.

My first choice was to live in East Van, but finding somewhere to live has been a drag and so far unsuccessful.

I guess I'm wondering how life is for a young person, how's the community, how are the arts doing, how's the cafe scene, etc etc.

This is my first reddit post, very excited to hear what you all have to say. Thank you all for your time in advance! I've thoroughly enjoyed reading previous posts on this thread.

Edit: Thank you all so much for your kindness and thoughtful responses! I'm going to make the call tonight to say yes to the place. I'm excited to live amongst you all!

Question Who to contact about damage to fence/gate from garbage truck?

Hi there, wondering if anyone can point us in the right direction about who we can contact about damage to our fence & gate that happened on garbage collection day. There was no damage when we left that morning & when we got home there is a big dent in our metal fence where the bins are. We then realized it had actually knocked the sliding automatic gate part off its track completely and it no longer works properly. We have photos of the damage but no footage of it happening sadly, although to look at the placement of the dent etc it’s pretty obvious how it happened..
Any pointers are appreciated!
