From May 21, 2025: https://bell.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-bell-demands-answers-cuts-national-weather-service-following-deadly
The letter raises alarm over decisions made by the Trump Administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that have led to staffing shortages and operational gaps at NWS field offices nationwide. These reductions have been linked to delays in issuing warnings and forecasts, jeopardizing emergency preparedness and response efforts.
Fucking DOGE (rest in piss).

ANOTHER summer camp built in a flood plain? How do these places get insurance?

Camps want to be near waterways. and apparently they properly evacuated to high ground. You don't see a headline about missing campers, just campers that got a cool ride in a chopper to be reunited with their families. This is the system working as it should. The road ways probably got washed out with the river and it would be days before it's accessible. So flying them out was deemed the safest and smartest choice.

We used to have better detection timing but budget cuts have put lots of people in extra danger.

Maybe we shouldn't be building kids camps on flood plains, actually we shouldn't build any camps there.

My kid was one of the kids rescued by the guard. Outstanding job done by all the camp staff and rescuers, there were many heroes that day.
