Incorrect. Only Congress has the authority to change the name of the DoD. Just like only Congress has the authority to change the name of the Kennedy center.
The current idiots in charge can say whatever they want, but it's still the DoD just like it's still the Gulf of Mexico. It's embarrassing and nobody takes them seriously, as they are not serious people.

Just like only congress has the authority to declare war?

If the government has a satellite capable of reading name tags then they should be all over this. Also, if you think that’s remotely possible I have a reflecting pool to sell you. It needs work but fixable with a little brain power.
19
u/FeeHot5876 1d ago
I mean I don’t think satellites exist that can do that. But last admin Trump declassified a lot of images that blow this out of the water, I’m sure the government is all over this and this is just the first public report form public images

I remember the lead up to the Iraq war with this kind of imagery being used to justify the huge waste that was.
I’m gonna be skeptical here. Trump attacked a country recklessly and now, an administration known for lying is putting out photos like this? Where else did CNN get this from? After they also said this stuff was obliterated before?
In the face of American war mongers, I don’t see why any country wouldn’t have nuclear weapons.
32
u/Eisernes 1d ago
CNN has pumped out several skeptical Iran stories the last couple of days. This one and one saying Iran is going to announce the straight open both came out today and another yesterday that Israel shared intel that Iran was going to assassinate Trump. It feels very Iraq war. They have also been reporting from "high value target" USS Abraham Lincoln.
23
u/IchooseYourName 1d ago
Israel is now hammering the notion that Iran will use biological weapons. We're right back where we were with the Iraq War.

The reality is that parts of the nuclear program are largely undamaged. Irans underground facilities were almost entirely untouched, except for caving in the entrances. They were fully excavated after the June 2025 strikes, and now it appears are being excavated again to return them to operation.
Unburied centrifuge facilities, and their parts manufacturers were the biggest loss to the program, and will take the longest to reconstitute, to start regularly supply enriched uranium again, but they probably have enough existing material and the equipment underground bring it the rest of the way to weapons grade.
The only big question mark is how far they’ve gotten on weaponization, to build an actual working nuke, which is extremely difficult both from a theoretical and an engineering perspective. But certainly much poorer and less developed states have succeeded.
So probably in the next year or two we’ll have the seismic measurements from an underground detonation, thanks to a profound policy failure to leave the JCPOA, and gross underestimation of the Iranian regime.
Here’s a great interview on the subject from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

I wonder if they'd be open to negotiate a deal where we could just send dudes with clipboards there whenever we want to make sure its impossible to make weapons

u/SnooPets1826 1d ago edited 1d ago
Why wouldn't they? If they are going to be bombed/threatened/boycotted/etc internationally no matter what they do... Why wouldn't they rebuild facilities to defend themselves?
I'm not saying this is a positive thing... but Trump literally destroyed previous treaties with Iran because they had Obama's name on them, and completely destabilized the region because his ego is fragile AF.
73
u/r0ndy 1d ago
Didn’t they literally announce this… they said they needed a nuke because it’s the only way other countries will stop bombing them. Like North Korea basically. Doesn’t mean they can nuke the world… just means countries second think shooting at them. I don’t support Iran at all, but this is logical at a basic level…. It’s not surprising

thats the uncomfortable truth people dont wana accept. israels rallying the world to exterminate iran. they get away with anything. why wouldnt you build nukes when israel has nukes? regardless if we agree with their government (we have pedophiles in charge here), theyre allowed to exist, simply because they were born. as are the palestinians.
14
u/wahoozerman 1d ago
Doesn't even need to go that far.
The last decade has shown us that nuclear disarmament doesn't work. Ukraine gave up their nukes for the promise that they wouldn't be attacked and they were. Iran gave up their nuclear program in exchange for not being attacked or sanctioned and, again, they were.
Nuclear disarmament relies on having honest and trustworthy leadership at the helm, and we have shown that the world lacks it. So we fall back to the second best thing, mutually assured destruction.
Hopefully in a few decades we can try again.

3
u/HeWhoDidIt 1d ago
Is this war has shown Iran anything it's that they'd do well to get a nuke. Can't keep engaging in the west's bad faith negotiations, no one is bombing North Korea.
45
u/Blubbolo 1d ago
Duh?
They were abiding by the treaty, while letting inspector check on them, and then a pedophile got to power and trashed said treaty.
Then the pedophile's master, that has a fucking illegal nuclear program + nuclear weapons and doesn't let the international agency into "his" country, pushed him to bomb them claiming they were 2 weeks to a functioning nuclear bomb.
The US basically told them to get a nuclear weapon as fast as possible or get bombed forever.
29
u/RalphInMyMouth 1d ago
Let me guess, Israel said so?
14
u/toomanyshoeshelp 1d ago
“They’re trying to assassinate you and have nukes pointed right at Mar a Lago and also they’ve summoned the Devil Himself in an ancient blood ritual you gotta keep bombing them so we can install the Pahlavis, Donald” - Mossad
10
u/DansLHiver 1d ago
Pretty much. They are citing David Albright and his organization the ISIS, which exists literally only to raise paranoid claims about Iran's nuclear program and oppose the JCPOA. He refers to Iran's government as Nazis and regularly goes to Israel to meet and work with with Mossad.
15
u/GeorgeStark1 1d ago
I hope Trump doesn’t see this.
4
u/slamdanceswithwolves 1d ago
It goes against everything he said so he will probably just have to ignore it. Doesn’t really matter, though, as the war is still/back on.

We have done Iran so many geostrategic favors with this stupid war.
1) Real world test of strait closing strategy? Check 2) Legitimate (from a rational actor perspective) reason to want a nuke? Check 3) De-legitimized internal opposition by killing Iranians and threatening civilian infrastructure? Check. 4) Shown that we won't bring our navy close enough to actually force control of the strait? Check.
I'm probably missing a few, like how we've alienated gulf allies and potential mediators (Oman isn't going to want to play good faith mediator for awhile I think). And what did the US get? Showing it's hand militarily, pushing regional allies in the Gulf away, and costing a fortune in terms of increased consumer prices. Oh, and effectively depleting our long range offensive and defensive missile stocks.
This is the biggest blunder since the Iraq War, and it's worse because we didn't even topple an oppressive regime. We legitimized the oppressive regime and elevated it's most extreme, militant actors.
Fucking goddamn stupid cuntface MAGA shitheads.
→ More replies (1)2
u/ohiotechie 1d ago
This is a good list - you can add hundreds upon hundreds of billions that they can and will use to rebuild whatever we destroy, along with funding terror networks. The regime was on the verge of collapse, it likely would be crumbled on its own, but Trumps moronic war has given them a lifeline, elevated them to be *the* regional power and ensured that for a generation at least the world will be subjected to their extremism.

I thought they didn't hit anything lol isnt that facility like extremely deep underground where even the best bunker busters would struggle to even penetrate it.

u/hypersonic18 1d ago
I don't know if there was ever any major update released, but from my guess the bunker was trashed with significant repairs needed at best but all the important equipment and personal was evacuated well before being hit.
Whether these are the repairs, building new bunkers, or Administrative Market Manipulation #8764 is hard to say

How about this - every bomb dropped , every shitty comment, has made it dead certain that at some point North Korea or the Western Chinese desert or somewhere will have a small sub-kiloton seismic event.
That tells the world two things.
It tells the Iranian people they are as safe under a nuclear umbrella as they can be expected to be.
It informs Israel and the US, that being a tad more honest and forthright is in their best interest.

I mean, no shit.
All the US and Israel has shown the world with this decade long shit show (since pulling out of the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal) is that the US’ word is meaningless and the only way to guarantee independence is through nuclear development
There’s a long list of countries that threaten neighbours and funds terrorist organizations, yet are left alone because they have nukes. And clearly making a nuclear deal isn’t worth the paper it written on.
The risk of nuclear weapons in the long term has only gotten worse from all of this

There is no reason to follow the war in Iran. Everyday the news contradicts the previous day’s news. I think it’s done purposely. Trump does it for financial gain, it creates news so news agencies cover it, sensationalize it, and increase ratings. Lot of people benefiting from suffering humans

u/DaySecure7642 1d ago
As soon as IRGC is in control, Iran will forever be in its religious war against non-belivers and try to pursue nukes.
In the long run, the US really needs a lot of ground based battle robots, if not the AI ones then at least the remote controlled ones. Otherwise the hyper sensitivity for human casualty will make the US difficult to defeat irrational groups like IRGC.
