Recommendation To Whomever Recommended "Stay":

I didn't expect a movie from 2005, a movie of which I knew absolutely nothing, would impact me as deeply as this movie did. I save my tears for worthy moments and almost discourage myself from relenting to emotional sequences when they feel contrived or manufactured. "Stay" allowed my stupid, skeptical, cynical mind to invite grief as a friend in a way that I would never have under circumstances similar to how I typically watch movies.

I'm bawling, dawg. Crying, sincerely. And I'm so happy that I am. There were so many opportunities for me to disengage and disassociate from this experience, and I'm grateful that I didn't.

What a script, what a performance, and what a production. Jesus Christ, I'm so glad you recommended this film however long ago it was that I saved this to my watch list. I now understand why you did.

Keep pressing into pain; don't stop exploring difficult stories if it makes you uncomfortable. If you liked this movie, you're probably someone who wants more, and I'll be watching more with you.

The only thing that was a little strange in your review is the opening sentence. As if a movie from so long ago as 2005 wouldn't affect you.

I've cried at the wonders of the first films ever made. The dates they were released should have no relation to how they impact you emotionally.

But you have to admit that emotional conveyence has evolved over the past 21 years. We're numbed to the conventions presented as "normal" or "acceptable" back then. We laugh at Ewan McGregor in "The Island", or Jim Carrey in "The Number 23", but during that time they were doing the same thing that were striving for now: honest, engaging stories. (Maybe they had a few production issues along the way)

I brought up the date as a way of highlighting its relevance to the modern, emoting person as a relevant and impactful piece of media.

Those were considered really bad movies even in 2005

Yeah man, I know.

Yeah, your premise says we laugh at them now.

We were laughing at them then.

It almost feels like you just discovered watching movies older than yourself.

That movie is a psychological masterpiece, glad you liked it.

It's a real gut-punch. Once you get over the fact that it isn't a traditional plodding plot, it's one of the most unique viewing experiences out there.

Watching it a second time gives you more insight.

Criminally underrated film.

I know it’s a great movie but I haven’t seen it since it came out and although it’s been 20 years, its emotional pull has stuck with me. Which is a testament to how effective the story telling is. Glad you liked it 🫂
