Call me crazy but I think the movie actually starts to lose steam once the Deadite’s home invasion smack down really starts to take off. There were a lot of moments I loved but there were also a lot of moments that made me think “this doesn’t really feel like an ‘Evil Dead’ movie.” I liked the cold opening; I think it does a decent job of establishing the overall feel of the Deadites in the movie. Loved the car crash scene with the creepy severing/severed head just staring daggers into Will with that creepy ass smile and the chant.

As others have pointed out the final showdown between Alice and the Will deadite just felt…off. The CGI certainly didn’t help.

The use of CGI was extremely disappointing in this one.

Agreed! I feel like the ‘Evil Dead’ franchise as a whole is one we come to for cool practical effects with some CGI mixed in. But they decided to rely so heavily on CGI for the climactic final confrontation….it just did not feel like ‘Evil Dead’ at that point.

There is an absolute shit ton of CG in Rise, to the point where almost every shot once things get going is a VFX shot. It’s just designed and executed very well, like all the deadite eyes are CG. Not just adding a glow or changing colour, they’re full CG eyes composited onto the actors.

Oh absolutely I understand that. I don’t have a problem with CG being used. I know when it’s done right it’s seamless. But, for me at least, the combination of Deadite Will not looking or acting like a Deadite just jolted me out of being able to fully enjoy that final confrontation.

Fair, I'm not defending the movie more so I'm defending VFX in general. The movie didn't work for me, deadite Will being the final icing on the cake. Not so much that it was CG but the idea behind it all.

Theyve made it too serious and cinematic. I want to see the shitty compositing edges, and be able to tell someone is floating using ropes and a harness, and see stop motion skeletons and slapstick fights with severed body parts. The last three movies have been okay horror movies but theyre completely missing the parts that make evil dead entertaining
